I don't know about you, but my Facebook memories was full of images taken in Croke Park over the last few years. Selfies with Marty, pre-drinks in Mahers, and slo-motion shots of fireworks signalling another Dublin win. What a time to be a fan. Alas. Septermber 2020 is like no other. Let's see what we can make of it.
Well, we'll have a camogie final for starters, and a great weekend for juveniltes last weekend, so it's not all doom and gloom.

Mentors: Send me what you got over the weekend
|

I'm conscious that juvenile games can only be attended by one parent/guardian in a supervisory capacity (Reminder of the rules here), which may mean other family members are missing out on games; so mentors: Send me your scores over the weekend, and I'll put them out as quick as I can. Whatsapp is probably best. If you don't have my number ask around - There's no chance I'm publishing my phone number in a newsletter sent to over 1,000 people! Plenty of mentors, and all games directors have it.

It's great that players are all bringing their own water to games. Its just one of the things we can do to prevent the spread of Covid, but it is leading to a problem of litter. Let's stamp this one out. If you bring a disposable bottle to a training session or game, please take it away with you or dispose of it in our bins. Don't leave it behind. Mentors: When finishing up a training session or game; please have a scan and make sure no rubbish is left behind. Bear in mind you may have to check where the opposition togged out. Please and thank you.

Your Quarterly reminder to look after PNU2

All players and backroom teams are reminded to play their part in looking after PNU2. Only players and backroom team and match officials should be on the pitch. In addition, anyone entering the field of play must be wearing appropriate footwear. Here's a reminder of the page we have filling you in on correct footwear, etc. Also: On that page there's a informational image for permitted and forbidden footwear; We ask if you have a game on PNU2, that you send that image as a courtesy to your opposition.

U8 to U12: Show us your skills!

RTÉjr are looking for Primary School children to send in videos of themselves showing off their skills. It can be football or hurling, and your video could be shown on TV! Full details here. If you're an U8 to U12 mentor, this may be a good task to add some fun to your training sessions? As PRO who sometimes gets sent video footage, I can sympathise with this request:
"And PLEASE put the phone SIDEWAYS so we can really get a better look at what you did!"
Indeed.

We're running a "Ryder-Cup" style golf event. This will be held on 26th September at Donabate Golf Club. Of course, subject to any government restrictions. (Right now, golf playing is allowed!).
The format is "Ryder Cup" in that there's two teams. You can chose to represent the Adult Section or the Juvenile Section. Entry fee is €50 and is strictly limited by the tee times we've been allocated.
If you want to support the event, you can sponsor a hole (€100), or if you want to sponsor a player, feel free to kick in an amount which reflects how much you like said player 😛.

And so to a camogie final
|

An emphatic 1-23 to 0-03 win over Ballyboden sees our senior camogie team into the Dublin senior camogie championship final, in a repeat of last year's Dublin Final: Vins v Judes.
Many of you tuned in to watch the semi-final on a live stream on Facebook. I've had nothing but positive comments about the live stream; super quality filming and enhanced by great commentary. We've Emma and Louise Byrne from Byrne Performance to thank (yes, Emma our GPO!) for running the stream and our own Gavin Burke and Leah Duggan who did a great job of commentary.
This final is behind closed doors folks. The game is on in Abbotstown this Sunday, and the county board are live streaming from 3pm. (they seem a little tight lipped on the throw-in time!). Leah Duggan will be reprising her commentary role, alongside a reperesentative from Naomh Jude.
Best of luck to the team and management. We'll be tuned in!

Ladies members: Are you starting college this year?
|
|
|
|
|
|

Many of you may remember the Louise Lynch Bursary, which was introduced last year in memory of our dear friend Louise. Once again, the bursary will be awarded. Full details on the programme is available here. The eligibility criteria are really straight forward. To qualify to enter you must:
- Be a playing member of St Vincents, playing either Camogie or Ladies Football.
- Be entering Third level education for the first time at time of application.
- Not be in receipt of another third level bursary or scholarship.
Note: Members who are entering Third level as a mature student are eligible to apply.
We urge anyone of our female members going to college later this year to apply. Entry is via a simple form here.

It was tough to see the senior footballers bow out last weekend, I won't deny it, but we had a number of great wins across the club last weekend. Here's the ones that were brought to my attention:
- U15s won their group stage championship football game
- Junior 2 Footballers beat Cuala in their championship QF
- Minor A played out a thriller in their Hurling championship quarter-final, winning by a single point against Raheny
- Minor B hurlers treated the parents-allowed-to-wait-nearby-in-the-car-park to a point fest, defeating Na Fianna on a score line of 7-09 to 2-21. Here: I'll do the maths for you: 30 points to 27 (!) in a scintillating quarter-final.
- U16 Camogie team beat Cuala in their Division 1 camogie championship game
- Girls U14b team won their Féile encounter over skerries.
- Boys U16a won their championship game against St Peters
- Both U14 boys squads won their opening Football Féile games.
Not a bad weekend, wha?

When I joined the club exec, I was warned that one of the most common phrases I would hear is "do you know what you should do?", and I admit, I have heard it a number of times since. But spare a thought for Rathdowney-Errill chairman Tim Barry who went above and beyond to answer that particular call.
