Club Notes, 8 September 2021

Games, games and more games.

Last weekend saw a lot of championships getting underway. Mixed fortunes, which I guess is the championship way. I have to say, I was delighted to be able to get to a senior hurling game in Parnell Park, then take a stoll over to the club to take in an Intermediate hurling game from a nice vantage point.  I have to thank the scheduling fairies for arranging two games, two hours apart, and a mere 500 yards from each other.  Check out my view:

In these current times, its not consiered having a pint unless you've posted an image of it somewhere, amirite?

[Insert GAA Mandated disassociation with alcohol here] The above photo should not be taken as an encouragment to drink alcohol. Please drink responsibly, etc. etc.

Lotto

Lotto Draw 06/09/21. Jackpot was €3,100. Numbers drawn were:

19, 14, 9, 12

There was no jackpot winner. Weekly winner of €100 was Martin Donnelly.  Next week's jackpot will be €3,250.

Jackies Upset

Hard luck to the Jackies who had their drive for five cut short by a formidable Meath side. It's been a cracking run of form, but alas this time it didn't happen. We know they'll be back next year.
Shout out to our own Niamh Hetherton who lined out in the full forward line last week. Well done Niamh, we're proud of you!

Juvenile Boys Mentors: A word of warning!

Mentors of juvenile boys teams please note: The Dublin County board issued the following statement this week:
"From Saturday 4th September, Team sheets must include players name in both Irish and English along with their GAA registration number.
All Team Mentors’ names must also be listed and Bibs must be worn by all Mentors."

Bear in mind Foireann can generate team sheets with Irish names and GAA Registration numbers. If you have difficulty, do drop me a line, but please, don't leave it until 30 minutes before your game!

Golf Outing: Ryder Cup Style

Folks: Our hope here is that now we can somewhat socialise, that we can get representation from every team in the club. The focus is on a fun day out. If you are spending weekends on the sideline, trading pleasantries with other parents, why not suggest coming along. Last year this was a great day out. Looking forward to this one!

Our one-day golf outing is back. It's organised as a "Ryder Cup" style - pitting one team against the other.  It's very simple:
1. Choose if you'd like to represent the adult section or the juvenile section
2. Buy an entry here
3. Tee times will be allocated
4. Turn up and enjoy!

Date: 24th September
Tee Times: 12:00 to 15:00
Location: Donabate Golf Club.

All-Stars Update

(Reminder: Our All-Stars programme is a gaelic skills training programme aimed at children with additonal needs. We're in the process of designing this programme, which is due to run from Mid-October)
I'm delighted to be able to say that organisation of our All-Stars pilot programme has porgressed well: We have our all-stars recruited, and have had a great response to a call for volunteers, who have completed their child safeguarding course.
Behind the scenes, the organising committee are working away designing the programme to meet the needs of our participants, in conjunction with their parents.
Our focus on the coming weeks will be in obtaining appropriate equipment, and securing some donations/sponsorship for this equipment.
Mentors: There may be a team bonding exercise here - Maybe your team would like to contribute towards the cost of equipment for the all stars?  If you'd like to help, get in touch with the All-Stars organising committee by mailing allstars@stvincentsgaa.ie

ALERT: Féile Begins This Weekend

Ah, Lads. Féile starts this weekend, but I have to admit this is Féile not as we know it.  Féile had to be abandonded last year, a victim of covid.  It was agreed that last year's Under 14 would get to play Féile as an Under 15 championship style this year.  So, Féile is happening, but will have more of a standard championship feel to it.
What's the difference ? Well, Féile was traditionally a large-scale competition that ran over a full weekend.  It has a festival vibe to it, with clubs acting as hosts, and mutliple games happening at one time, qualifying games were played on the Saturday, with finals played on the Sunday. It's fast going, intense, and there's a quick result.  It's been traditionally a right-of-passage for young Footballers, Camógs and Hurlers.
We wish our U15 Hurlers all the best as they embark on Féile this weekend, and don't worry lads, you'll be included in Champo Watch as you pass through your Féile competitions.
The U15A squad take on Thomas Davis at home on Sunday at 11:30 am, meanwhile the U15B squad, will have to wait a few more weeks, as their qualifying group is still ongoing.  They take on Castleknock in Porterstown on Sunday morning at 10:30 am.
We wish the best of luck to our U15 lads!

Champo Watch

Lots of championships got underway last weekend, and I've promised to keep you updated on all teams who are in championship action; mentors, if you want your results shouted out on Twitter on the day of your game, drop me a text, and I'll do my best.
Many of the Championships are beginning with groups stages, so I don't think we've any knockouts to speak of, but I do ask for your help - there's a lot of data to collate, so if I get anything wrong, please let me know; and I'll try to get this as correct as I can! E and OE I believe is the term.
OK, with my clumsy disclaimer out of the way, let's see how we got on, and what we have to look forward to:

Adult Camogie
Senior Camogie got the start they'd hope for, beating Kilmacud Crokes on a scoreline of 3-15 to 0-10. Their next game is on the 19th at home to Na Fianna at 10:30 am.
Our Intermediate Camogie were also victorious, winning their Round 2 encounter over Naomh Padraig (4:15 to 0-07). Next game is tomorrow, at home to Ballyboden.  That throws in at 6:45pm. The management of the Inter camogie team were in touch to say that a win tomorrow would see them through to the Semi finals, and they'd appreciate some vocal support.  The game is on MIE.  Can you make it?
Our Junior 1 team had a bye, so no score to report. Their round 3 game is tomorrow,  9th September when they contest the Junior 1B championship at home against Erin's Isle, at 6:45pm.
Our Junior 3 played last night, and were beaten by Round Towers.

Adult Hurling
Senior Hurling played out a cracking game of hurling in Parnell Park. Unfortunately, St Judes edged ahead in the last couple of minutes, beating us by 2 points. Our next outing is on the 19th September, v Setanta. The venue is not decided yet, and it is likely to be ticketed. Keep an eye on email and social media for updates.
Our Intermediate Hurling had a great start, where they beat St Maurs 3-19 to 4-12. As I mentioned, I caught this one from the comfort of the bar, and I saw a quick 3 goals in succession for Maurs, and feared the worst; Little did I know that the action was ocurring at both ends. Well done boys. Their next game is down for the 18th v St Judes at 6pm. No word on the venue yet.
Our Junior A were defeated by Clanna Gael Fontenoy.  Their next round is a Bye.  Put your feet up lads. (Don't: Get back training!)
Our Junior B hurling team opened their champo account with a win against Lucan (1-17 to 1-10).  They take on Na Fianna on the 19th, at 3pm.

Ladies Football
Our minor ladies team suffered a defeat at the hands of Ballyboden last Monday.  They'll dust off and take on Clontarf next Monday in St Annes. That's throwing in at 6:30pm.
The U16 ladies team didn't play last weekend. Their next outing is this Sunday, at home against Castleknock.  Throw in is at 4:30pm
The U15 ladies also didn't play last weekend. Their next game is on Saturday , at 1:30pm at home to Thomas Davis.

The footballers open their account this Sunday when they take on Ballinteer St Johns in O'Toole Park, Kimmage. That throws in at 4pm (Facebook Event). Well done to the many teams who had wins last week. Commiserations to those who didn't, but remember it's still group stages! Best of luck to everyone in action this weekend.

And remember, there's less restrictions in place now, so you should be able to pick a game and suport your team! Of course, we ask you to please continue to observe social distancing protocols.

And finally..

I've been lucky enough to have Dublin Season Ticket since 2012,and have had prize seats for all of the big 5 finals, including the two replays. So while my jersey may be wondering what's going on, my wallet is breathing a sigh of relief. I have to admit, I'm savouring the thought of this weekend's All Ireland Football final; The outcome will be drama one way or another.
Thanks to former Vinnies man, and now Clare resident, Connor Shields here's an alternative cynical take on the encounter!
