A good run for the hurlers means this weekend is all about Camogie |
|
|
|
---|
|
In the normal course of events, we'd be referring to this weekend as a hurling weekend for the men, but a recent good run in both Intermediate and Senior hurling means they both went straight through to the semis; the quarters are all up for deciding this weekend, and we get to sit it out. There's still a Junior hurling game; but this weekend belongs to Camogie; as all 3 teams are at the business end of their championships on Sunday. There's a lot to get through this week, so lets get to it. |

AGM, and a new executive required |
| The AGM will take place on Thursday, November 24th. This is not your official notice, as that will come from the club secretary in due course. However I was asked to re-emphasise that the executive committee's term comes to an end at this year's AGM, and will be stepping down. Members are advised that if they are thinking of forming an executive committee, the duck-aligning should be starting around now. |

Big Club Fundraiser Launched |
| A full notice went out about this late last week, but be prepared for me to repeat this one a bit! This year's all-club fundraiser has been announced. It consists of 3 events. On November 17, we'll host the Golf Classic: A 15-hole scramble competition in Clontarf Golf Club. Entry is €280 for a team of 4 and includes: - Entry to the competition
- Food afterwards in Clontarf Club House
- Prize Giving in St Vincents
- Entry into evening entertainment
Want to play in the golf? You'd want to head over soon, as it is selling quickly. Tickets available here |
| | The evening of November 17 will also see us host a night of entertainment, as we transform the hall into a swanky venue, including LED dance floor, and novelty drinks offerings. Tickets are now on sale here. |
| | And finally, a mega-raffle which offers your team a chance to cash in on ticket sales. Tickets for the raffle are €20 or 3 for €50, with over €10,000 worth of prizes. At the time of checkout, the purchaser will be prompted to state which team their ticket purchase is in support of: 20% of the value of the ticket will be donated directly to the team. The more tickets your team sells, the more money your team will make! Start selling your tickets by sending people to this link. |
| | Once more for the people at the back? OK. |
| | | Two events on this weekend in the club bar: Friday, the club will host live music from Pat Adams. Be sure to swing by and have a listen, a chat or a cúpla schoops or Pizza. The Bar will open from 6 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. |
| | Wait, did someone mention Pizza? Yep. Friday will have a pizza promotion order direct from Neat Pizza, quoting code "GAA15" and your pizza will be delivered to the club with 15% off. Nice. |
| | And more? Yes. The bar will open Saturday from 6 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday will see the bar open from 1 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. in support of Super Camogie Sunday, including a live music act. More details on this later in this newsletter. |
| Club Gear Ordering Portal Now Open for a short period |
| McKeever has opened an online shop for taking orders for I can't believe I'm mentioning this already Christmas. The shop is only open for a very short period: It will close at 11:59 pm this Sunday, 1 October. There's a good range of playing, training and leisure wear as well as one or two gift items. To access the shop visit this link. Why is it done like this? I hear you ask. The market for branded clothing is quite small in scale when compared to high-street fashion. Items which don't sell aren't really of value to the general public, so to reduce waste (and the cost associated with it), all items are procured to order. Hence, we have purchasing events scheduled throughout the year. |

A reminder: We share our space with our neighbours |
| Members, parents, supporters: A quick reminder. Our club is surrounded by residential areas. Many of you are our neighbours, but equally, many of our neighbours are not affiliated with the club. We ask that everyone be considerate of local residents. In particular: - Car Parking is often a cause of frustration to our neighbours. If you live nearby we would urge you to walk or cycle to the club. Please use our main car park only, and where possible try to avoid parking in Charlemont or Casino Park. If you have no option, we'd ask you to be diligent on where you are leaving your car taking extra care not to obstruct or make passage difficult for residents.
- If socialising in the club, particularly at night, please ensure that you leave the club in a quiet and orderly manner.
St Vincents prides itself in being an active part of our community; the key to that is respecting and maintaining good relationships with our neighbours. Please and thank you! |

Folks: come get your stuff! |
| As we hit the height of championship season, our lost and found items continue to grow. If you are around the club, please pop by and see the items left out for collection. Please note that when this gets too large, we typically donate unclaimed items. |

|
| | This Sunday, October 1 sees all 3 of our adult Camogie teams in crunch-stage action: - The Senior Camogie team start the proceedings when they welcome St Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh to PNU1 at 10:30 a.m. for the Senior 1 Camogie Semi-Final.
- Shortly after, the Intermediate Camogie team contest the Intermediate Camogie Semi-Final. This is also at home; on PNU2 at 12:30 p.m.
- At 1 p.m., the Junior Camogie team are in the Junior 5 Camogie Final in the National Games Development Centre, Abbotstown, with a throw-in at 1 p.m.
To top off the day, the Camogie section has arranged live entertainment; expect a busy club with 3 squads present. "The VRs" will be live from 6 p.m. |
| | Supporters - The Junior 5 final game is ticketed. Tickets are available at this link. Entry is €5.83. Yeah, its a nutso price but 🤷. U16 and OAPs are free. Also: I'm aware that the powers that be in the camogie section are trying to get the start time of the Intermediate game moved to allow more folks to go to see the Junior final. At the time of writing, this was not confirmed, so please keep an eye on social media. If the throw-in time changes, I'll post it to Instagram/Twitter and Facebook. |
| Champo Watch: Last Weekend |
| For the adult men, last weekend was a football weekend. A tough weekend for sure: Hard luck to the Senior Football team who bowed out of the SFC, knocked out by Raheny on a score of 0-14 to 1-8. Also, hard luck to the Intermediate footballers, who also bowed out of their championship via a defeat to Na Fianna (1-22 to 0-9). Well done to the Junior A Footballers - they had a good win over Round Towers, Lusk (1-5 to 3-9) in the Junior 2 All-County championship quarter-final. This books them a slot in the semi-final. This game is down for 8 October when they'll play away to Naomh Olaf. Minor Boys The Minors had a hurling weekend last weekend; Minor A had a convincing win over Na Fianna (4-17 to 1-9); They are 2nd in the table with 1 more group stage to play. The Minor B were defeated by Kevins (3-13 to 0-10). They too are second in the table, with one more group stage to play. Juvenile Boys The U16 A footballers suffered a defeat to Na Fianna (3-9 to 1-8) and are currently third in the group, with 1 more game to play; it doesn't look like they can clinch a knockout stage place, as the teams ahead of them are on 4 points. The U16 B footballers beat Tyrrelstown 2-17 to 3-2 and currently top their group with 1 more game to play. It looks like they've done enough to book a knockout place. Ladies Football A good 1-point win for the Minor A ladies' football (1-10 to 1-11) against Ballinteer St Johns. They've booked a place in the Division 2 final. The other semi-final will be played on Saturday, and the final fixture will be made after this. I'll keep you posted. Well done Minor A! Unfortunately, the Minor B ladies' football lost to St Margaret's, putting them out of the Division 8 championship. Camogie Well done to the Senior Camogie team who beat Ballyboden 3-12 to 0-7 - This booked them a place in the aforementioned Senior 1 Semi-Final. Congratulations also to the Intermediate Camogie team who beat Naomh Olaf by 2-14 to 1-6. They too booked their Semi-Final place. Juvenile Camogie Our U16 Camogie Team had a draw with Naomh Mearnog (2-7 to 2-7) in the U16 Division 2 championship. This finished them third in their group; I don't believe this is enough to get thought to the knockout stages. Hard luck to the U16s. Well done to the U15s who beat Judes (2-6 to 0-5), booking their place in the Div 2 Cup; they'll face Whitehall on October 7. |

The Minor A footballers play at 12:30 p.m. when they take on Lucan Sarsfields on PNU1. The Intermediate Camogie team contest the Inter 1 semi-final at 12:30 on PNU2 against Ballyboden.
