Holding strong in championships

Some great wins for many of our teams last weekend see us fighting for another day. Commiserations unfortunately to our senior hurlers. This week: The perils of GAA4Mas and more.

Could you be a referee?

We're still looking for new referees at CCC2 and adult levels. Could this be you?
The County board have appealed to all clubs to increase the number of referees representing them. In particular there is a shortage of referees at CCC2 (U13-16) and adult levels. The Dublin Camogie board have also expressed similar concerns.
In light of this, the county board are bringing in regulations next season that each club will be required to supply 1 referee for every 2 teams they have entered in competition. St Vincents are looking for expressions of interest for members who would be interested in becoming a referee.
The county board runs regular courses for referees.  If you'd like to register your interest, please do so via our form at https://vins.ie/refinterest.

No? What about serving on the executive committee then?

As per the club consitiution, this AGM will see the current executive committee step down. Nominations are now being sought for positions on the executive committee. Please see the full announcement here.
Please note that some of the executive committee have indicated they would be willing to continue to serve; this is of course at the behest of whoever forms a new executive committee, and assuming the membership would vote this group in.
Anyone who is considering a nomination is encouraged to speak to any member of the current executive committee.

All-Stars Volunteer Group in training!

Last Friday saw the first meeting of the All Stars mentor group. This was a "dry run" to ensure mentors could get to know each other, and to give them all an idea of what will happen on the night. We look forward to the first all stars session, which is scheduled for Friday week, 15th October.
The session was run by our GPO, Emma Byrne and before anyone could raise a self-concious "am I sure?" eyebrow, all the mentors were running, throwing, catching, hoops, balls and bean bags. Everyone worked really well and the atmosphere was buzzing.
The folks finished it off with a team building tug-o-war.

Many thanks to those who chipped in to help with funding the all-star initaitive. This is amazing - we'd love everyone in the club to contribute in some way, and paying towards equipment is a big help.
If your team (or individuals!) would like to donate, we've set up a page to allow you to do so. All proceeds will be used for equipment or gear for our All Stars.  You can donate here.

Fundraising walk this weekend - a reminder.

The Hayes family were in touch to express their gratitude at the outpouring of support from their neighbours, community and club mates. Thank you to everyone who have donated and spread the word about the sponsored walk to raise funds for a new bus for the service users at St Michael's House Grove Local Centre (Ciaran's Unit).

Now, for the rest of yis: Has your team benefitted from Ciaran and his family showing up to watch you play and cheer you on?  Maybe your daughter was mentored by JJ, who has worked tirelessly with camogie teams over many years? Wouldn't this be a good time to give a little back?
Teams: Get on your whatsapps, and have a whip around and put in a bulk donation to represent!
Right, enough of the Bob Geldof routine.  Seriously folks: It's a great response so far; let's see if we can push it a little more.

Full details, including a link to donate are available at their iDonate Page.
As mentioned last week: for those of you who aren't in a position to donate, fear not; there are other ways you can help.  Head over to the page, but here's a couple of suggestions:
1. Show up on the day and join the walk! This is a great way to show the family that you're behind them.
2. Share the donation page on your social channels spread the word near and far!
Please and thank you !

Zumba's back

I wouldn't have guessed it, but the first thing to return in Zumba! Classes are back from Thursday.  From Zumba Deb:
"Zumba fitness is a cardio based exercise class that uses Latin and international rhythms. It's suitable for all fitness levels, as your work at your own pace."
The class is pay as you go, €8 every Thursday in the club hall.  Full covid procedures are being followed in line with government guidelines.  If you want to know more, you can contact Deb on 0868151291.

Champo Watch

Lots of good results last week, and some not so good. That's champo for ya. If your team is not mentioned, it probably means they are no longer in championship action.  Let's not rub it in eh?  If I've accidentally left you out, don't be afraid to get in touch. And to top it all off, a number of competitions going to knock out stages may not yet have fixtures down.  We do our best with the info in front of us.
Lets see where we are all at, shall we ?

Adult Camogie

Senior Camogie: What a palaver, eh? We were all excited with the prospect of a Champo semi final last weekend, only to learn late in the week that the game couldn't go ahead. I bet you're all wondering why. Well, something about how the other group ended up, and a query was put into the county board regarding if the correct team were given the semi final place. The board needed time to ajudicate and respond, and in the mean time the fixtures last weekend we cancelled.  I'm delighted to be able to say it appears like a storm in a proverbial tea-cup, and the game goes ahead this weeekend, with no change to the opposition.  Sunday morning: 10:30 at home, we take on Ballyboden in the Go Ahead Senior 1 Camogie Semi Final.  See y'all there, right?

Our Junior 1's had an impressive win over Erin's Isle (4-12 to 2-5). I wasn't there, but I read the prosaic  write up in the Independent, which had some choice quotes: "..the hour was decorated by the solo runs of the home midfielder, Ciara Gilmore." and "..their neat approach work led to a basket of elegant points from the likes of Robin Fitzpatrick, Anna Fitzpatrick and Clodagh O’Carroll." "elegant" ? Clodagh? Yeah right. Well done to all involved it sounds like a majestic display.
Our Junior 3's shield semi final has been re-fixed and re-fixed and re-fixed.  I'm told it's now on Friday at (8th Oct) at 8pm on PNU2. Best of luck there, girls.

Adult Hurling
Senior Hurlers played a tit-for-tat encounter with Lucan Sarsfields in a game that went level 7 times. Unfortunately, a late goal secured the win for Lucan late in the game, which saw us knocked out of this year's campaign. Commiserations to players and management.
Our Intermediate Hurling had a good win away against Crokes (1-22 to 0-16). They are through to the knock out stages. No sign of the fixtures just yet as next weekend is a football weekend.  Remember, as soon as I can, I update the club fixtures page.
Our Junior A also had a good win against Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels. This game was also given the indo treatment, again with similar colouful descriptions: "Paddy English took some neat points. His first one came from the Nicky English catalogue: one touch, a quick turn and bang, over she sailed.", and of Willie Lowry they stated "He soared high into the air after the break to make a magnificent catch. He rose so high he could have said hello to the helicopter pilot.".
I was delighted to see my youthful cousin getting a run out and a picture in the paper, and got a second ping of delight as I shared the article with my Good Counsel work mate on Monday. Well done Junior As, if only for giving me an opportunity to be smug at work who are now through to the knock out stages.
Our Junior B also fared well in their game against Skerries, winning on a scoreline of 2-15 to 0-9. Another team through to the knockout stages.

Ladies Football
Last weekend was a camogie weekend, so not much change for the Ladies Footballers:
The U16 ladies team take on Ballinteer St Johns away on this Sunday, October 10.
I thought it was the end of the road for the U15 ladies but I was incorrect; They take on Beann Eadair this Saturday, 9th in a Shield knock out game.  At time of writing, there was still some movement on the start time, due to pitch availability; I'll confirm on social media when it is locked in.
The U14 Ladies contest the Shield knock out stage on this Sunday October 10 when they are away to Round Towers, Lusk.

Adult Football

The Senior Footballers contest their last group game versus Castleknock on this Saturday October 9 at 5pm.  Folks: Like all senior football and hurling games, this one is ticketed.  Tickets are availablke from this link.
Intermediate Footballers play their round 3 fixture on this Saturday 9th October when they meet St Oliver Pluketts Eoghan Ruadh. (5pm, home)
Junior A Footballers face Ballymun Kickhams on this Sunday October 10 @ 11:00 am (Home).
Junior B Footballers are away to Thomas Davis, this Sunday October 10  at 3pm.

Minor Football
Minor A had a good win over St Brigids (1-13 to 0-06). This means they are through to the knockout stages. (yet to be drawn)
Minor B's also won well, beating Templeogue by 4-9 to 2-7. They are also through to the knockout stages.
Minor C were defeated by St Sylvesters, not sure where this leaves them. I expect it's a sheild for them, as they didn't qualify out of their group. As it's not drawn yet, I can't say for sure. But again, I'll clarify as soon as I know.

Juvenile Championships
U16A were hurling last week, and they played out a draw against Thomas Davis (2-8 to 0-14).  This wasn't enough to qualify them out of the group, so presumably a shield is their next hurling encounter.
U16 Camogie beat Na Fianna 0-9 to 1-3, which puts them into a Championship Semi Final. This is down for the 17th October, away to Naomh Maur.
U15 Camogie were victorious in their game against Naomh Brid (6-8 to 1-7). This also sees them through to their semi final. That's down for the 16th, but the opposition and venue yet to be drawn.
U14 Camogie won against Castleknock (2-7 to 3-0). Their next fixture hasn't been made, but given that was a round 3 game, I assume they too have a semi final in store.
U13 Camogie lost in their encounter against Lucan (2-5 to 4-5); their next game isn't fixed yet.
The Under 15 Boys had a football weekend; The 15A's beat Crokes on a scoreline of 3-18 to 3-8; That's a féile win for them. The 15Bs can't seem to get a break. Plagued by walkovers, and byes, this weekend resulted in a no-show for the ref, meaning their game wasn't played. Both teams are now in hurling action this weekend. The A's play Judes on Sunday at 12 pm on PNU2.  The B's game preceeds that; its on 10:30 on PNU2; This is a Championship Féile Semi final against Na Fianna.

Minor Hurling
As it was a football weekend last weekend, no hurling scores to report; This weekend now sees them in hurling action:
Minor A they look forward to a meeting with Raheny on this Sunday 10th October.  That's on at 11 on Ard Scoil Rís.
Minor B are away to Naomh Catriona away on this Sunday 10th October at 11:00 am; That's on in Glenaulin Park.

OK. Lots of good results in there, and plenty of games to get out to at the weekend. I guess the real difficult results start from next week, when it's win or die. Best of luck to everyone who is in champo action this weekend.

Mentors: If you want your results mentioned, just send them on, and I'll do my best to get a tweet out. Also, as always, fixtures are published on the club website.

That GAA4Mas is more dangerous than it looks!

From the "not-the-coincidence-I-was-hoping-for" department, we have a story from last weeks GAA4Mas blitz in Portlaoise. As always the games were played in great spirit, and fun was had all around. Unfortunately, our captain, Chizuru Ryan suffered a leg injury, and had to taken to the VHI swiftcare clinic.

Chizuru is a plucky lady and was taking in all in her stride. On her way to the clinic she got a call from her husband, who was on the sideline for their son, Ken's game. Unfortunately, Ken sufferend a shoulder injury in his game, and was making his way to the...you guessed it...VHI Swiftcare clinic.

We thank the Ryans for their service, and wish them both a speedy recovery!

And finally..

When I attend a big game, I try my best to get out scores at water breaks, half time and full time.  Even that I find needs all my concentration; fearing my fat fingers will put out a wrong score to our twitter feeds. For games I can't make, I always rely on the great twitter blow-by-blow account by DubMatchTracker; I'm amazed at how he keeps up, and remains concentrated on the game.
Well, I say I'm amazed, until I saw the work of Aoife Ní Mhaoláin who took notes on our hurling game v Lucan. Hats of to Aoife. It may not be the result we hoped for, but  Class work all the same.
