Club Notes, 20th October 2021

Ouch.

A relegation playoff defeat sees our Footballers play Senior B next year. Unfamiliar territory for sure, but we'll be back.  Minor Hurlers had two great games, and a U20 Camogie Championship begins. So still lots to keep an eye out for.
We had a bank holiday last weekend, so relative to recent weeks, it was a quiet one.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

There was no lotto this week, as we skip Bank Holidays for Lotto Draws.
Next week's jackpot will be €4,150.

AGM Reminder - And Nomination Deadline!

A reminder that the official notice for this year's AGM is available here.  I've already written about the importance of membership attendance, so we hope to see you all there.
Members should be aware that the closing date for nominations and for motions is 28th October, or in other words if you are reading this on Wednesday night, that's tomorrow.  If you are reading this on Thursday that's today! (If you are reading it after Thursday, sorry - you missed it).
We look forward to seeing you, assuming government and GAA restrictions allow on 18th November.

CCC2 Ref Courses Coming Up

The county board were in touch to say they are still looking for referees for CCC2 level (that's U13-U16).  From their mail:
"A second Level 3 course will be held in Parnell Park over three evenings on Monday 15th, Thursday 18th and Monday 22nd November"
If you'd be interested in becoming a CCC2 referee, please drop our club secretary, Anne Harrington a mail and she'll get you put on the list.

Update to the Covid Guidelines

Last Friday, 22 October, the GAA issued updated guidelines relating to easing various protocols associated with Covid-19. One key change to protocols is Health Questionnaires are no longer required prior to training or playing, but attendance must continue to be kept.
We have produced a presentation slide deck summarising the main points in the GAA notice; This deck is available here.
We would stress this is a summary and players, mentors, parents and guardians are encouraged to read the official update from the GAA here.
Note that indor meetings can be facilitated if all attendees are "considered immune".  This may mean a covid-cert check at the AGM.  Suffice to say planning on the AGM continues, and if there's any change to the format, I'll send out a specific announcement about this.

Thanks to all our Covid Supervisors

A change to the guidelines is as good a time as any to thank everyone who has worked so diligently to ensure our training and games could continue throughout this challenging time. We thank the many parents who volunteered to work as covid supervisors, and to our mentors who stuck with it, following the protocols, and kept the show on the road.

Zumba's back

Zumba classes are back every Thursday.  From Zumba Deb:
"Zumba fitness is a cardio based exercise class that uses Latin and international rhythms. It's suitable for all fitness levels, as your work at your own pace."
The class is pay as you go, €8 every Thursday in the club hall at 7pm.  Full covid procedures are being followed in line with government guidelines.  If you want to know more, you can contact Deb on 0868151291.

Good Luck to the U15A Hurlers - Féile Commemoration

To mark 50 years of Féile na nGael, A special commemorative Féile Competition is being held tomorrow, Thursday 28th October in Thurles. The GAA have arranged for representatives from Clare, Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick, Waterford, and Wexford to take part in a 1 day invitational competition. These counties were chosen as they match the eight teams that competed in the 1971 Division One Féile.  St Vincents U15A team were selected by the county board to represent Dublin. This is a great honour for the club, and a great achievment by the U15 players and mentors. Congratulations on being chosen folks, and we wish you all the best for the big tournament.

Champo Watch

At this stage in Champo watch, we just have to accept that most weeks will mean disappointment for some, and joy for others. The list of who's still in will naturally dwindle!
With that, here's this week's champo watch.

Adult Camogie

Just when I thought we'd have no more Adult camogie to speak of, the county board have launched an under 20 competition.  A great idea if you ask me, as there's no U20 grade right now. This gives some of our recently-graduated-from-juvenile players that chance to play as one team again, and to mix up our grades and put together a strong, young team.  Our U20 Camogie Championship opens this Sunday, 31st at 10:30 and is away to Naomh Mearnog.

Adult Hurling
It was a football weekend at Junior level, so no hurling results to speak of, however we do have two semi-finals in the hunt this weekend.
Our Junior A contest the Junior A Semi Final this Sunday morning at 11:00. It's away to Clanna Gael Fontenoy out in Sean O'Moore Park.
Our Junior B are contesting the Junior G Semi Final, that's also on Sunday, away at 3pm to Ballyboden.

Adult Football

A trifecta of disappointment on the football front last weekend.
The Senior Footballers were unsuccessful in their relegation play off against Whitehall Colmcille out in St Margaret's last Friday, losing by 2 points on a scoreline of 0-13 to 1-12. That sees us contest Senior B championship next year. I'm sure the preparation plans are already in place and we'll be back stronger. Well, that's what I told the indo, anyway.
Junior A Footballers lost to Cuala in the Junior 2 All County quarter final, beaten 3-11 to 1-13, so that's the end of their campaign.
Junior B Footballers were also defeated in their Junior 4 All County quarter final, I was at this one, and Templeogue had some handy marksmen up front. Final score was 1-9 to 0-25.

Minor Football
A hurling weekend for minor means no scores to report in the football, but the semi finals are down for this weekend
Minor A take on Judes, in the Minor A semi final away in Tymon North on Sunday morning (31/10) at 11:00.
Minor C contest the Minor E North Championship Shield semi final, this Sunday morning, at 11:00 away to Scoil Ui Chonaill.

Juvenile Championships
The U16A Footballers play in the U16B Quarter Final this Saturday, 30th.  That's at home at 3pm v Castleknock.

Both Under 15s are in Féile Hurling Finals this weekend. The 15A take on Castleknock in the Divsion 1 Féile Final on Sunday morning at home at 11:30 am, while the B team are in the Divsion 6 Féile Final also on Sunday morning at 11:30 am.  That's away to Lucan in the 12th Lock. Great to see both squads making it this far. We'll be rooting for them!
U15 Camogie have waited a number of weeks for their Division 2 Championship Semi-Final. It's on this Saturday, 30th October away to Ballinteer St Johns at 1:30pm.
U14 Camogie contest their Shield Final. This is at home on Sunday 31st at 3pm against St Finians.
U13 Camogie are also in a Shield Final. This is at home on Sunday 31st at 1:30pm against Na Fianna.

Minor Hurling
Minor A played out a cracker of a Quarter final game against Faughs on Ard Scoil Rís on Sunday.  You don't have to take my word for it, as there's a great write up in the Indo. They won on a scorline of 2-15 to 1-14.  That sees them through to the Minor A hurling Semi Final, which will take place at home on 7th Nov at 11:00am against Ballyboden.
Minor B were also victorious in the Minor D Championship where they beat Ballyboden  (3-14 to 2-10). The are now through to the Minor D hurling Semi Final, also at 11:00 on the 7th at home. Their opposition will be Clanna Gael Fontenoy.

Folks, that's 8 weeks of "Champo Watch". Plenty of promise in those still in competition.  I've noticed an upswing in the numbers coming out to support our teams.  Keep it coming! Naomh Uinsionn Abú 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

If you're looking for where and when a game is on remember, fixtures are published on the club website.

And finally..

"A question of sport" had this great round called "What happened next?" where they'd play a piece of sport footage, freeze it and ask "What happened next?". I doubt any GAA games footage ever made if to the BBC Quiz programme, but if they ever do, my vote would be for them to use this footage from a penalty shoot out between Dunmore and Claregalway, in the Galway North Board U19 Final.
