Club Notes, 20th October 2021

Mixed fortunes continue

A close fought Senior Camogie Final defeat didn't overshadow a Junior Final win; Good progress for juveniles and minors. All this helps to give a glimpse of what a roller coaster championship is. As each week passes, "Champo Watch" will get smaller and smaller.  Still, great to see our first final win.  Here's to more, eh?

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

Lotto Draw 18/10/21. Jackpot was €4,000. Numbers drawn were:

12, 3, 5, 24

There was no jackpot winner. Weekly winner of €100 was Michael Prior. Next week's jackpot will be €4,150. Nice.

Dogs are not permitted in the club

I've had a number of people get in touch in recent weeks to raise issues around dogs being present in the club. I witnessed a pooch doing a pitch invasion at a Senior Camogie Semi Final, and have been told about 2 doggos partaking in a bark-off in the viewing area of PNU2.
I know we all love our four legged friends, and need to get them out for walks, but frankly, the club ain't the place for them. Even if you are the most conscientious of poop scoopers, the next person may not be. And seeing your dog there makes them think it's ok to bring theirs.
So, folks.  Please be considerate and keep the dogs away!

AGM Notice Issued

Official notice of the AGM was released this week.  You can read the notice from Runaí Anne Harrington here.  Folks: The work done by the Executive committee is not always visible to members, but I can say without exception, each member of the committee work hard on your behalf, always acting in the best interest of the club members. No decision is taken lightly, and everyone has worked tirelessly throughtout the very challenging year. The executive committee are stepping down at this AGM, and we ask as many members as possible to attend.  The AGM is an important aspect of the club calendar, and gives members a forum to have their say via submission of motions.
We look forward to seeing you, assuming government and GAA restrictions allow on 18th November.

All-Stars Gets of to a cracking start

Our all-stars programme got off to a great start last Friday.  We had 7 all stars participating, and a host of volunteers. I spoke to a couple of the all stars as they left and they all had a great time and promised to be back next week. Parents we delighted, all-stars were happy, and volunteers were buzzing after the session.
I gotta say, it was very heart warming to see the volunteers who's sole reason to be there was to ensure the all-stars had a good time; and they delivered in spades!
Pictured above are many of the volunteers playing a parachute game - I promise there's an all-star in the centre!
Thanks to the families who took part, the volunteers, and those who organised this initiative.  I think this is the start of something big in our community!

Zumba's back

Zumba classes are back every Thursday.  From Zumba Deb:
"Zumba fitness is a cardio based exercise class that uses Latin and international rhythms. It's suitable for all fitness levels, as your work at your own pace."
The class is pay as you go, €8 every Thursday in the club hall at 7pm.  Full covid procedures are being followed in line with government guidelines.  If you want to know more, you can contact Deb on 0868151291.

Concussion: Know the signs!

One for mentors and players - A sobering message from the CCC:
"A recent Head / Concussion injury in one of our Championship games has highlighted yet again the need for a safety-first approach when dealing with head injuries or suspected concussion. Information on dealing with head injuries can be found by clicking on the link below.
https://learning.gaa.ie/concussion
"

I don't think this needs further explanation - Go take a read.  As always, the GAA website really is a treasure trove of resources for mentors and players.

Champo Watch

Look. I won't sugar coat it. Getting beat in a final hurts. The quiet in the stand in contrast to the supporters in the other end cheering away is one of those things that you just have to endure sometimes. And as a supporter, that feeling is only a tiny fraction of what the players and managers are going through.
And let's not overshadow the win by the Junior Camogie team, and some great results at Juvenile and other junior teams.
With that, here's this week's champo watch.

Adult Camogie

We had a great turnout of support for the Senior Camogie final. And to both teams' credit we were treated to a fantastic game; there was never anything in it. I can't remember the gap ever going beyond 3; it was all in the mix, but a goal from Judes did change the game around. Unfortunately, this wasn't to be our year. Good write up in the Independent here.  Congratulations to St Judes, and commiserations to our own girls and back room team.

Last Sunday had started much better! Our Junior 1s Camogie team took the Junior 1B title in convincing fashion, beating Thomas Davis on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-04.  Congratulations to all involved. I'm sure the covid-compliant celebrations have continued long past Sunday.  You deserve it!

Adult Hurling
Our Intermediate Hurling were beaten in their quarter final against Erin's Isle, on a scoreline of 5-11 (26) to 1-17 (20). And so ends their campaign. Hard luck to the inters!
Our Junior A played out a 1 point victory over Cuala (0-14 to 0-13), so go through to a Semi Final. I don't believe the draw has taken place yet. but we'll keep you posted.
Our Junior B had a big win in their quarter final against Round Towers, Lusk; That sees them also through to a Semi Final

Adult Football

The Senior Footballers contest a relegation play off versus Whitehall Colmcille this Friday October 22 at 7:30pm out in St Margarets. Please note that this is a ticketed event.  Tickets are now on sale at this link.
Junior A Footballers contest the Junior 2 All County Championship Quarter Final this Sunday, 24th October, where they are away to Cuala at 11:00 am.
Junior B Footballers are also in a quarter final. (That's the "Junior 4 All County Championship"). They are at home this Sunday, at 3pm against Templeogue Synge Street. (PNU2)

Minor Football
Minor A won their Quarter Final against Sylvesters convincingly (3-20 to 0-15), and this sees them into the Minor A semi final.  This isn't fixed yet.
Minor B unfortunately lost their quarter final (3-12 to 3-5) against Clanna Gael Fontenoy, ending their campaign.
Minor C won their Shield quarter final.  Well, I say won, but nobody gave me an update, and the game is down as a walkover, and we're through to the Shield Semi, so I don't know the full details.  Anyway, Minor C are now in the "Minor E North Championship Shield" semi final, where they will meet Scoil Ui Chonaill; It's an away game down for the 31st at 11:00 am.

Juvenile Championships
The U16A are now through to the U16B Quarter Final. They will play Castleknock at home on the 30th.
Continuing a great run, the U15 A boys beat Ballyboden (1-15 to 1-09) in the U15 Féile Football semi-final last weekend, which sees them through to the U15 Féile Final.  They find themselves in a interesting double against the same opponents in each code.  Yep. The U15 A Boys are in Division 1 Féile Finals in both Hurling and Football, against Castleknock's U15 As.  We'll be dying to see how these pan out!
Th U15Bs also won last week in their game against Round Towers, Lusk (2-8 to 0-4), however this was not enough to see them qualify out of the group stages. Doesn't look like this will result in Shield, so that will be the end of their Football season.
U16 Camogie unfortunately were beaten in their Semi Final v Naomh Maur and are now out.
U15 Camogie are still waiting to contest the Division 2 Championship Semi-Final. It's down for the 30th October away to Ballinteer St Johns.
U14 Camogie won their Shield semi final against Peregrines (5-7 to 2-1).  They are now in a Shield Final. This hasn't been fixed yet.
U13 Camogie also won their Shield semi final against Ballinteer St Johns, so are also in a Shield Final. Keep an eye out and I'll post the fixtures once they are available.

Minor Hurling
Minor A take on Faughs this Sunday at 11:00 in the Minor A Hurling Quarter Final. That's on Ard Scoil Rís, while the
Minor B are also in Quarter Final action (Minor D Championship); This is also at home on Sunday at 11:00; this is down for PNU1.

OK. We're 7 weeks into "Champo Watch" and I think this list is still going strong. Lots to be proud of, and plenty of great games to get out and support.  So, where you can - get yourselves out and lend your support. Naomh Uinsionn Abú 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

If you're looking for where and when a game is on remember , fixtures are published on the club website.

Mentors: I'm getting the odd mumuring of "why hasn't my $CHILD's team result got a mention?".  It's slight, but it's out there, so work with me here, will ya?  If your game comes to an end, a quick text to me with the score will mean I'll stick a message up on the aul instas.

And finally..

We had a few great weekends a couple of years back, when our Junior B hurlers took part in the Junior B Hurling All-Ireland competiton, hosted by Killeedy in Limerick. We got to witness first hand the variation in ages of our Junior Hurling teams.  From lads fresh out of minor, to seasoned players who still like to puck a ball, it celebrates the game for everyone.

However, we ain't got nothing on the Morgans of Moycullen C hurlers.
