What a weekend we just had. We're truly hurtling to the end of championship season. Last weekend was mixed fortunes: Amazing results in Camogie see us crowned both the Dublin Senior Camogie Champions and the Dublin Intermediate Camogie champions; All 3 adult camogie teams have won their championships. I'd say you'd have to go back far to find a record like that in our annals, or in any other Dublin club's for that matter. More on this below. On the hurling side, we had disappointment in the form of a big dramatic finish; but came out the wrong side, dropping out of Dublin at the semi-final stage. A killer blow for sure. |

Home of the Dublin Senior Camogie Champions |
| | The title says it all. We were treated to a thrilling game of Camogie on Friday night in Parnell Park. Our girls got off to the dream start, and the first half was an exhibition in Camogie. Every ball was fought for, and the sliotar never made it out of the Judes half. By half time we had amassed a 9 point lead with the scores at 0-10 to 0-1. The dressing room at Judes must have been interesting at half time, because to their credit they came out fighting in the second half. They racked up 2 goals, and kept us scoreless for a lot of the second half, at one stage narrowing the gap to just 2 points. It was certainly one not for the faint-hearted. The last 10 minutes saw our girls dig deep, and get a couple of scores on the board, and we ran out winners on a scoreline of 0-15 to 2-6. Niall Scully has a good write up here ; If you'd like to watch the game it is up on youtube . And you can catch the post match interview with manager Kathryn Kantounia here. Club Photographer Gráinne McKinney was on hand; you can view her images at this link. The Senior team now go through compete in the AIB Leinster Senior Club Championship Semi Finals; They will travel to Birr on Sunday 4th November at 1:30pm. Road trip anyone? |
| Home of the Dublin Intermediate Camogie Champions |
| | Sunday was the second of the finals in "Crunch Time Weekened". Given that the Junior Camogie team won their Championship, the Seniors had just be crowned Dublin Champions, one might imagine that the Intermediate Camogie team were feeling the pressure when they took to the pitch in Abottstown on Sunday. Well, if they were feeling the pressure, it certainly wasn't showing; I only caught the second half due to extra time at the Hurling, but what I did catch was a dominant performance. The Intermediate team came out winners by 7, defeating Raheny by 2-14 to 2-7. They were crowned Dublin Intermediate Champions, rounding off a great weekend for our Camogie section. The Intermediates also go through to the AIB Leinster Intermediate Club Championship. There's more counties at Intermediate level, so their next game will be a quarter final. They will take on the Laois Intermediate champions (still to be decided between Camross and O'Moores) on the weekend of 28th/29th October. The full draw has yet to take place - but it looks like we'll have home advantage for this one. |

How did the 3 Hurling Semi-Finals Go? |
| | The Senior Hurling semi-final ended in a dramatic finish, and unfortunately, we came out the wrong side of it. This was an amazing performance from the Senior Hurlers against a very strong Ballyboden St Enda's side. Boden were up by 2 at the break (1-3 to 0-8), but the second half produced an epic battle and by full time there was nothing to separate us; The game was tied at 0-16 to 1-13 at full time, and extra time was called for. Boden got the better of us by 2 over the the two periods of extra time, but late into injury time, we were awarded a penalty for a deliberate drag down of Hedgeo in the box. Tom Connolly stood up and struck it well, but their goalie got a hurl to it, and the game was blown up immediately. Sport can be cruel like that. We'll rue a few wides during the game, but there's no doubt that we're competing at the level we should be at; It was a great performance, and the cliche of fine margins never applied so much. If you want to watch the game, you can do so over at YouTube. There's a write up over on Dublin GAA and Gráinne's photos can be viewed here. The Intermediate Hurlers were victorious in their championship semi-final, defeating Kilmacud Crokes by 5 (0-15 to 0-10). This was also an eventful game - with some hairy moments. A late challenge on Tom Hunter at the final whistle saw him receive on-pitch assistance, but it didn't seem to dull his joy. |
| | Tom later had to have 10 stitches to the head. What a warrior! The last semi-final down for decision last Sunday was the Junior E championship semi-final against Balinteer St John. Unfortunately, that was a loss, bringing to the end of the road the Junior B teams run this year. Final score was 2-11 to 3-15. There were also a couple of other championship games played last weekend; they weren't at semi-or final stage - here's how they went: Our U16 A Hurlers had a good win over Raheny (3-12 to 1-7), and Stop press: They also won this evening against Naomh Mearnog (0-14 to 0-7), which puts them second in their table - with all games played. I guess this takes them through to the quarter finals. Hard luck to Our Minor A Footballers who were knocked out of the Minor A Football championship at the hands of Fingal Ravens. Hard luck also to our Our Minor C Footballers who lost against Clontarf; They are at the bottom of the table with 1 game left to play. Hard luck also Our U16 Ladies Footballers who lost by a goal to St Judes (2-7 to 1-7) in the U16 Division 3 group stage. They finished 3rd in the table which was not enough to get them through to the semi-finals. |

Sunday morning sees the Minor Boys heading over to Pairc Ui Murchu to take on Ballyboden St Endas in the Minor A Hurling Championship quarter final. Sunday sees our Minor B Camogie team contest the U18 Division 5 Semi-final at home against O'Toole's. That is down for 12:30, but at time of writing may change. When Senior Camogie captain Danielle Smith did her speech after collecting the Maura Brady Cup last Friday, she talked about how it takes a village for such an achievement. It does indeed. So, I'll ask you to forgive me for breaking the rules to call out an individual. Please join me in congratulating Ali Maguire, who last Friday picked up her 8th Senior Dublin Camogie title. Ali has played with the club all her life, and picked up her first senior title when she was just 15 years old. She's also a regular mentor to the All-Stars group, and an all round "Club Person". Well done Ali - We wish you and the team all the best as you enter the Leinster Campaign! |
