Club Notes, 13th October 2021

Whoa. A couple of finals beckon.

A senior Camogie final this weekend. A junior one too.  And a couple of Féile finals waiting in the wings! Good weekend for many last weekend. I hope one cheeky gif won't get me a ton of unsubscribes. But cmon, it's appropriate, am I right?

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

Lotto Draw 11/10/21. Jackpot was €3,850. Numbers drawn were:

4, 24, 11, 15

There was no jackpot winner. Weekly winner of €100 was Ger Fagan. Next week's jackpot will be €4,000. 4k. Like the tv, only instead of pixels, you get Euros.

Changes to the inter-county season - Have your say.

I sent out a separate mail about this, but in case you didn't see that one. Particulalrly important to players, as it affects when club season is played, so you might want to take a look:
One important point being up for consideration at this years GAA congress is changes to the inter-county competitions. There are two options up for consideration, known as Motion 18 and Motion 19.
The county board have asked clubs to indicate their preference, and to this end the Executive are asking for input from its members.
We recommend you view the video prepared by the GAA explaining motions up for consideration.
If you would like to have your say on which of the motions you prefer, we've created a form where you can indicate your preference, and optionally, tell us why.
You can fill out your choice at here.
This form will be closed at 5pm on Friday, 15th October, 2021.

Executive committee to step down at AGM

As per the club consitiution, this AGM will see the current executive committee step down. Nominations are now being sought for positions on the executive committee. Please see the full announcement here.
Please note that some of the executive committee have indicated they would be willing to continue to serve; this is of course at the behest of whoever forms a new executive committee, and assuming the membership would vote this group in.
Anyone who is considering a nomination is encouraged to speak to any member of the current executive committee.

All-Stars Commences this Friday

Just a short note to wish the all stars organisers and all stars participants best of luck in their first outing this Friday. We can't wait to see those smiling faces!

Many thanks to those who chipped in to help with funding the all-star initaitive. This is amazing - we'd love everyone in the club to contribute in some way, and paying towards equipment is a big help.
If your team (or individuals!) would like to donate, we've set up a page to allow you to do so. All proceeds will be used for equipment or gear for our All Stars.  You can donate here.

Hayes Family Fundraiser: Thanks!

I was privileged to take part in the fundraising walk event organised by the Hayes family to raise funds for a new bus for the service users at St Michael's House Grove Local Centre (Ciaran's Unit). There as a great community spirit and buzz knocking around. And everyone was spoiled with yummy treats after the walk.

The Hayes family have asked to pass on the following message:
"On behalf of Ciarán, St Michael’s House Grove Local Centre and the Hayes gang, we want to express our sincere thanks to all our families, neighbours, work colleagues, friends from far and wide and the members of St. Vincent’s GAA club for the huge support for our fundraising walk last Saturday. We are overwhelmed by your generosity and the total raised to date is over 20k. It was in truth a real community effort and a really enjoyable day in these difficult pandemic times. There are too many people to thank individually but it was great to see so many rolling their sleeves up to help in so many different ways on the day itself and in the preparations. Ni neart go cur le chéile. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir."

Well said, Hayes gang, well said indeed.

Speaking of community spirit in Charlemont..

I've heard some whisperings of naughty parking around Charlemont last Sunday, which was a particularly busy day in the club. Of course, it may not have been Vinnies folk, it may have been visitors, it may have had nothing to do with the club. Who knows? However we do know this:
We're in the heart of a number of residential areas, and we enjoy their support and understanding that required for having a club in your midst. (not to mention their supply of players!) So as always a simple request: Please respect our neighbours. Please park in the club car park only. If you live nearby, consider walking or cycling to the club to ease congestion. Please and thanks!

Zumba's back

Zumba classes are back every Thursday.  From Zumba Deb:
"Zumba fitness is a cardio based exercise class that uses Latin and international rhythms. It's suitable for all fitness levels, as your work at your own pace."
The class is pay as you go, €8 every Thursday in the club hall at 7pm.  Full covid procedures are being followed in line with government guidelines.  If you want to know more, you can contact Deb on 0868151291.

Ladies Football Sporting a new Look

Our U16 ladies football team togged out this week in our new look, blue shorts. Blue shorts are now the official kit for ladies football, which was ratified by the club executive a few months back.
Speaking of the new look, ladies football director, Niamh Adamson commented:
"We’re delighted to unveil our new blue shorts for ladies football. This provides a consistent look for all our female players, mirroring our Camogie girls who have donned blue skorts for many years now"

A smart look indeed, and great to have consistency across our codes.

Champo Watch

Well well. I know I keep referring to the business end of the championships, but when I look through the teams I am tracking, there's the inevitable teams coming to the end of their campaign, but also a lot of teams well and truly into knock out stages.  Some really good progress too.

Adult Camogie

Senior Camogie: Right. We're through to the final here. The Senior 1 Camogie final is on this Sunday, 17th October at 2:30pm. It's fixed for the GAA National Development Center at Abbotstown, against St Judes.
Note: This game is admission via tickets only.  Tickets are now on sale and available at this link.

This will be the third year in a row we meet St Judes - and we're on one apiece.  I don't need to stress the importance of a big support here! There's an event on Facebook (here) which you can mark yourself as going.

(Editors note: Disappointing to see that Sunday also has Camogie scheduled for U8, U9, U13, U14 and U16. Not to mention another clashing final. Bringing younger Camógs to marquee game is a great way to raise their enthusiasm for the game, and keep them interested into the future.  We've always enjoyed super support from our juvenile teams, but their games this weekend will mean many can't come along.
Shur lookit Joanne, we don't make the decisions, and both teams are in the same position, but questions have to be asked.)

Our Junior 1's are also in their Junior 1B Championship final versus Thomas Davis 10:30 on Sunday 17th October.  During writing this, I just got word that we also won the toss for home advantage, so this game will be played on PNU2.

Adult Hurling
Our Intermediate Hurling contest the Intermediate Hurling Quarter Final; This is away to Erins Isle, on this Saturday, 16th. Throw in at 4:30pm.
Our Junior A are in the Junior A Quarter Final. Thats on this Saturday, 16th at 4:30pm at home on PNU1 against Cuala.
Our Junior B are also in their Quarter Final. This Junior G game is at home to Round Towers, Lusk; It throws in at 3pm on Sunday, also on PNU1.

Ladies Football
A tough weekend for Ladies Football, I'm afraid with all of our ladies football teams ending their championship campaign. Comiserations to our U16, U15 and U14 teams who were knocked out last weekend.

Adult Football

The Senior Footballers lost in their encounter with Castleknock (1-18 to 1-12) out in the Naul. As we failed to qualify out of the group, we're now in a relegation play off versus Whitehall Colmcille. That game will be played on Friday October 22 at 7:30pm out in St Margarets.
Intermediate Footballers were defeated in their game against Oliver Plunketts. (3-18 to 0-10); their campaign is now over.
Junior A Footballers drew with Ballymun Kickhams.  This was enough to see them finish 2nd in the table, meaing they are through to a quarter final.
Junior B Footballers beat Thomas Davis by the narrowest of margins (4-11 to 3-13). They topped their group, and also have a quarter final to look forward to.

Minor Football
Minor A play in the Minor A Quarter Final this Sunday 17th against St Sylvesters. This game will throw in at 11:00 on Ard Scoil Rís.
Minor B are also in a Quarter Final. They contest the Minor D championship away to Clanna Gael. This is also on Sunday 17th at 11:00am out in Sean O'Moore park.
Minor C are in Shield Quarter Final. That's away to Clontarf this Sunday 17th, also at 11:00 am.

Juvenile Championships
The U16A boys had football last weekend.  They drew with Ballymun (3-8 to 2-11) which was enough to see them top their table. Not sure if they have a QF or Semi next as there were 3 groups in the group stages. We await the next fixtures on this.
U16 Camogie are in their championship Semi Final. That's on this Sunday, 17th that's away to Naomh Maur.
U15 Camogie are through to their semi final; for some reason, this is down for 30th. Not sure why!
U14 Camogie are in a Shield Semi Final this Sunday, 17th against Naomh Peregrines.  It's at home and throws in at 1:00pm on PNU2.
U13 Camogie are also in a Shield Semi Final; it's away to Ballinteer St Johns this Sunday, 17th at 1pm

Special shout out to the U15 Hurlers. Both were in Féile semi final action at the weekend and both were victorious, meaning we've qualified for Féile Finals in both Division 1 and Divison 7. I'm informed that it's been many years since both an A and a B team have made Féile Finals.  I'm also informed that enough of the praise, because they need to concentrate on Football Féile this week!  The As are away to Ballyboden (Sunday 17th, 10:30), whilst the B team are home to Round Towers Lusk, also Sunday 17th, this one at 11:30 am on MIE.

Minor Hurling
Minor A beat Raheny (2-18 to 2-11) last weekend.  They've topped the group, so have a Quarter Final to look forward to.
Minor B beat Naomh Catriona (4-3 to 1-6).  They also topped their group, so also have a Quarter Final to contest next.

I can't easily shake the disappointment of bowing out of senior football last week, but I gotta say, on balance, last week had a lot of success. 6 weeks into "Champo Watch", and this list remains long.
Naomh Uinsionn Abú! What will you support this weekend? 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

Mentors: If you want your results mentioned, just send them on, and I'll do my best to get a tweet out. Also, as always, fixtures are published on the club website.

And finally..

Ah Janey, it's only been a couple of short weeks that the Hedgeo's got a mention in our "and finally" section, but this piece that covers all the Hethertons, courtesy of Go Ahead Ireland is just took good to not share. 3 clubs represented by one family?  They're some family for one family. Enjoy
