Club Notes, 3rd November 2021

Lots of positivity!

Is it November already?  My mind is on the AGM.  Not until we get that over can I start to think about the other word.
I have to say, I'm feeling all Gaelic-y. I took a day out of work to support our '15s in Thurles, and was treated to a wonderful days' hurling. Then, my young lad's team came good on a Féile final. It has me realising what it's all about. Day trips, and days to remember.  Naomh Uinsionn Abú!
A good few wins on the weekend didn't do any harm either, but one defeat did sting. More on these below.  There's still plenty of action, even though it is November.  So, you can still get out for a game on the weekend.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

Lotto Draw 1 November 2021. Jackpot was €4,150.  Numbers drawn were

21, 3, 5, 24
There was no Jackpoint winner.  Weekly winner of €100 was Fergal Elebert. Next week's jackpot will be €4,300.  You have to admit - It's getting to a tidy sum, that would come in handy at this time of the year!

AGM Reminder

A reminder that the official notice for this year's AGM is available here.  I make it just over 2 weeks to go. Better get my report done, wha? Anyway. I'm gonna keep harping on reminding folks until after it happens. We hope to see as many members as possible on the evening.

CCC2 Ref Courses Coming Up

There's still time to get in on the Parnell Park Referee's course. I'm told you can rack up a nice few quid each weekend by reffing a few games! From the county board:
"A second Level 3 course will be held in Parnell Park over three evenings on Monday 15th, Thursday 18th and Monday 22nd November"
If you'd be interested in becoming a CCC2 referee, please drop our club secretary, Anne Harrington a mail and she'll get you put on the list.

Update to the Covid Guidelines

On Friday, 22 October, the GAA issued updated guidelines relating to easing various protocols associated with Covid-19. One key change to protocols is Health Questionnaires are no longer required prior to training or playing, but attendance must continue to be kept.
We have produced a presentation slide deck summarising the main points in the GAA notice; This deck is available here.
We would stress this is a summary and players, mentors, parents and guardians are encouraged to read the official update from the GAA here.
Note that indor meetings can be facilitated if all attendees are "considered immune".  This may mean a covid-cert check at the AGM.  Suffice to say planning on the AGM continues, and if there's any change to the format, I'll send out a specific announcement about this.

Zumba's back

Zumba classes are back every Thursday.  From Zumba Deb:
"Zumba fitness is a cardio based exercise class that uses Latin and international rhythms. It's suitable for all fitness levels, as your work at your own pace."
The class is pay as you go, €8 every Thursday in the club hall at 7pm.  Full covid procedures are being followed in line with government guidelines.  If you want to know more, you can contact Deb on 0868151291.

Féile Commemoration Invitational Competition

Last Thursday saw our U15A team take part in a national Féile competition marking 50 yers of Féile na nGael. The competition was held over a single day in Thurles. My youngfella, who lines out for the '15Bs wanted to support the lads, so I took a day out of work and headed down. To recap: The GAA arranged for representatives from Clare, Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick, Waterford, Wexford and the hosts, Tipperary to take part in a 1 day invitational competition. These counties were chosen as they match the eight teams that competed in the 1971 Division One Féile; Our team was selected by the Dublin County board to represent Dublin.
Reader, I was not disappointed. The standard of Hurling was amazing, and our lads held their own against some very stiff competition.
Their first game was against Durlas Óg, a local Tipp team, and our lads won well. Their second game was against a formidable James Stephens ("The Village") of Kilkenny. While we started strongly, the Stephens lads found a stride and beat us in our second group game.
1 win and 1 loss in the group stage meant we went through to a shield competition.  The third game, a shield semi final saw us well matched against JK Brackens of Tipperary. This was dogged hurling, played on soft ground - A real challenge for both teams. Great work by the lads who dug deep and won the encounter by 3 points.
This put us through to the Shield Final, which was held in Semple Stadium.  A great opportunity for the lads to play on such a historic venue.
And they didn't disappoint, winning the Final convincingly, 4-07 to 1-06 against Ballina, also a Tipp team.
I got a few snaps on the day, which can be viewed here.
The U15 lads were great ambassadors for the club, both on and off the pitch, and the mentors and parents should be very proud of them. Well done guys, and thanks for the hurling!

Champo Watch

While we had a couple of disappointments last weekend, I'd say all in all it was quote positive.  Let's have a look, shall we?

Adult Camogie

The U20s got off to the best possible start to their championship, winning their round 1 game against Naomh Meanóg (4-20 to 4-7). They now look forward to taking on Faughs/Celtic at home on the 14th November at 10:30.
And not to be outdone, I see there's also a U18 Camogie championship starting. We're fielding a team in Division 1.  First game is 16 November at 7:30pm.  It's at home against Naomh Jude.

Adult Hurling
Two hurling games were down for playing last weekend.  Mixed fortunes.  Hard luck to our Junior A hurlers who were beaten by a goal (1-10 to 0-10) against Clanna Gael Fontenoy. This knocks them out at the Semi Final stage.  No small task, so well done on getting that far, and commiserations on last weekend's game.
Our Junior B team had a good (1-14 to 1-7) in over Ballyboden St Endas in their semi final last weekend. So, they're through to the Junior G Hurling Final, which is fixed for 14 November, at 2:30pm at home. That's against St Monica's.

Minor Football
Like the Junior Hurlers, mixed results here too. Congratulations to Minor A, who beat Judes (2-16 to 1-10) away to qualify for the final against Kilmacud Crokes. I don't believe a date has been set yet, but we'll keep you posted.
The Minor C lads were unfotunately beten in their Championship Shield game against Scoil Ui Chonaill. That's the end of their campaign.

Juvenile Championships
The U16A Footballers won their U16 Quarter final convincingly over Castleknock. That puts them through to the Semi Final, which has yet to be fixed.  It's a hurling weekend at U16, and the lads take on Judes in the Hurling A Shield knockout stages; that's on this Saturday, 6th at 3pm on PNU2.
Mixed fortunes also for U15 lads.  Both were in Féile Hurling Finals (Division 1 and Division 6).  The U15A lads were beaten by the narrowest of margins in the Div 1 final by Castleknock (2-10 to 0-17). There's a write up on the county board website. Castleknock's photographer, Niall O'Connell was on hand taking photos; Take a look here. In a massive co-incidence (or a testament to both teams), the two meet again this Sunday, 7th November at 11:30 to contest the U15 A Football Féile Final.  This time, it's away in Castleknock.
The U15B lads contested the Div 6 Féile Final, away to Lucan Sarsfields.  A great display of hurling from the whole team, but I may be biased. The lads won well; Congratulations to the team and the mentors: Féile Champions!

Div 6 Féile Champions!

Congratulations to our U15 Camogie team who won their Campionship (Div 2) semi final against Ballinteer St Johns. This puts them through to a final: They'll take on Clontarf at home on 13th November (time, tbc).
Commiserations to both our other juvenile camogie teams.  Our U14 Camogie lost in their Shield Final, so that's the end of their campaign, while our U13 Camogie were beaten by a single goal in the  Shield Final.

Minor Hurling
Minor A look forward to the Minor A semi final, This is on this Sunday, 7th at 11:00 am.  This is on Ard Scoil Rís.
Minor B are also in semi final action this weekend. They contest the Minor D Semi-Final when they meet Clanna Gael Fontenoy at home at 11:00 also on this Sunday, and will be on PNU1.

And there's More
I thought we were at the end of all campaigns, but the county board have launched U21 competitions.  We're fielding in the U21 A Hurling and U21 A Football championships.  It's hurling first, so we open our U21 A Hurling campaign this Saturday, 6th at 2:30pm on PNU1, where we'll take on St. Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh. The first football game is on the 13th, at 2:30pm and will be at home against Na Fianna.

OK, we're 9 weeks into Championship season, and plenty of geat teams to keep rooting for. See yis all on the sidelines, yeah? 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

If you're looking for where and when a game is on remember, fixtures are published on the club website.

And finally..

I caught this glimpse of "behind the scenes" at the National Féile last Thursday.  Here we see our captain, Leo Sweeney being filmed for a post-match interview.

Good idea to start practising, because this lad has a bright future in front of him. Not bad on the pitch, and not bad in front of the camera either. Looks like it runs in the family.
