| | Remembering Brian and Sean Mullins - In the best possible way |
| We're delighted to be working with Portlaoise GAA for a special event on Bank Holiday Monday, June 4th. As you all know, it was with deep sadness that St Vincents lost one of our stalwarts last year with the passing of Brian Mullins, RIP. You may not have been aware that Brian's brother, Sean, moved to Portlaoise in 1970, and quickly embedded himself in the GAA Scene there. Sean won an all-Ireland Club Championship medal with Portlaoise in 1976/77, beating St Vincents on the way. Unfortunately, Sean Mullins passed before Brian in August 2020. We were approached recently by Portlaoise GAA who wanted a way to remember both men and so on June 4th, we'll take place in the inaugural Sean and Brian Mullins Memorial Event. The event will see our Senior Hurlers take on Portlaoise Senior Hurlers, and our Senior Footballers take on Portlaoise Senior Footballers. We expect to also arrange some juvenile games too, to ensure that the event is truly a family day out. We can't think of a better way to honour Brian and Sean, and we hope to see many of you there! |
| | Welcome to the Jungle - we've got fun and games |
| The Camogie section are very excited to announce their big event for this year: |
| | The Jungle Challenge will see 24 contestants go head to head in a number of Jungle challenges! The event will take place on Saturday 17th June in the club hall. I'll be filling you in with as much detail as possible, including ticket sales, and sponsorship in the coming days (and weeks!). Last night the organisers did an information night which turned out to be way more fun than your average “information night”. They even gave us a little taster of what the challenges were like, and boy, was it was a challenge. I was placed into the bar a room with 2 snakes, an iguana, a tarantula, and 21 camogie players. Scary stuff indeed. Some highlight snaps from last night below |

| | There was no Jackpot winner. Winner of the weekly prize of €100 was Sinead Power. Next week's jackpot will be €5,650. Five and a half k. Not bad at all. Think of the holiday you could go on with that. Or get that patio changed, or re-do the broken tiles in the kitchen. Wait. I'm projecting, aren't I? |

| This week's classes in the club gym are listed below. If you think you'd be interested, download the Wunderbook app, search for “Athletic Profile Monitoring” and make a booking. Note: The dates are correct on the heading, but not on the days. Sure, I'll have a word with the lads. |
| | Inter-County Representation |
| Things are quietening down on the Inter-county front. Hot of the press: well done to Eimear Adamson, who was named on the squad for Dublin Ladies, who won the Leinster Minor B Championship final this evening against Wicklow. Final Score was Dublin 4-9, Wicklow 2-11. Looks like the girls were super happy with their win! Hard luck to Aisling Maher and Muireann Kelliher who contested the Leinster Senior Camogie Final against Kilkenny last weekend. All of the commentary running up to the game gave Dublin no chance, but that wasn't to be the case; Dublin matched Kilkenny point for point for large swathes of the game, and a late-minute goal puts a gloss on the scoreboard for Kilkenny. The final score was 1-14 to 0-13. Looking ahead, we wish Conor Burke all the best as the Dublin Hurlers take on Kilkenny this Saturday, May 20th at UPMC Nowlan Park. This game will throw in at 6 pm. Speaking of representation. Last week I mentioned that one of our U13 players, Ellen Shelton was going to be lining out for Dublin for the half-time game in Croke park. I subsequently learned that a second of our U13 players, Ailbhe Nic Eachráin also lined out, chosen by her school, Scoil Neasáin. |
| | Well done Ailbhe (front row, first from right), and Ellen, (back row, second from right) on your Croke park debut. Keep working, and let's see you lining out for the seniors in a few years time! |
| | The yearly adult playing gym renewal is due by the 30th of May 2023. The fee is only €25 euros for the year. All renewal funds are reinvested back into the gym to keep it maintained, upgrade equipment and keep the facility at the required standard.
To keep your access to the gym for another year, you can purchase your renewal below. |
| | June Bank Holiday Tournaments |
| A reminder that we'll be running our usual bank holiday tournaments on Monday 5th June: The Girls' tournament is the annual Dave Billings Ladies Football tournament. This consists of two mixed-age competitions (U8 + U9, and U10 + U11 + U12). Registration is at 10:00 am. The boys will take part in the annual Des Foley football tournament. Similarly organised, there are two mixed-age competitions. Registration for the boys is a little later at 12:15 am. As with our other bank holiday competitions, there will be a cake sale (in support of the U14 boys who are raising funds for next year's féile), and other snacks available too. We hope to see you there. |
| | The Griffith Avenue Mile Returns! |
| We're delighted to see another outing for the Griffith Avenue Mile. We had great representation from all of our teams last year, including our all starts who took part. Here's hoping we'll see them this year in their new All-Stars jerseys! The event will take place on September 17th. For those of you who'd like to enter, entries are on sale at this link. Mentors: If you want to enter as a group, the organisers can help: You can fill out details on their contact form, or email info@griffithavenuemile.ie |
| | | So, how did last week go? Féile Lads. Can I just say; I went to two games last Sunday; One was the Division 1 Féile final in Parnell Park, and the other was the Leinster Senior Football Final in Croke Park. I can say without a word of a lie, the better of the two games was played in Parnell Park. Unfortunately, our lads were beaten by a single point against Raheny in the Féile final. I know it's a cliché, but there was a puck of a ball between the sides. They matched each other score for score, with both teams' defences playing out of their skins. It was a great spectacle of Hurling and the lads can leave with their heads held high. It's going to hurt for a while, But it's supposed to. If it didn't hurt, it would matter; and there's no doubt in my mind that it mattered. The guys left nothing behind. Our commiserations to the team and management. The final score was 1-7 to 2-5. The Division 1 final got a lot of attention, but we shouldn't forget that our U15B team were also in action on Sunday morning; their Féile is still in the group stages, and I'm delighted to report they had a great win, beating Na Gael Oige 4-8 to 1-1. Adult Hurling Last weekend was all hurling for the adult men: The senior hurlers suffered a defeat to Ballyboden at home last Saturday - a big test, and a cracking game; The final gap was 3 points (2-20 to 2-17). Intermediates had a good win (4-15 to 3-13) over Kevins Junior A lost at the hands of Na Gael Oige (3-14 to 6-14) Junior B had a two point loss to Ballinteer (2-13 to 1-14) Minor The minors were in football action: The A team beat Ballinteer on a score of 1-16 (19) to 2-11 (17). The B team had a convincing win over Craobh Chiarain (5-17 to 3-5) The C team also won well, beating Thomas Ashe (3-16 to 2-11). Adult Camogie The only Camogie game reported in the last week is the Junior 4 game against Lucan; we won this on a scoreline of 1-9 (12) to 3-6 (15) Minor Camogie Good win for Minor A over St Oliver Plunkett Eohan Ruadh (6-8 to 0-6) Adult Ladies Football Another good win for our A ladies team - They beat Round Towers, Lusk this evening 5-14 to 0-7. Our B team suffered defeat at the hands of Man O'War (3-12 to 1-7) Minor Ladies Football A big win for our Minor B, over Beann Eadair |
| | The adult men turn to Football this weekend, You can go find all the fixtures on the usual fixtures page, but here are the big games in each section: Ladies Football This day next week (24th May), the ladies will travel to Swords to take on St Finians out in River Valley. throw in is at 7:30 pm. Adult Football A home game this Saturday, when we welcome Cuala to PNU: |
| | Camogie The Senior 1 team have a re-fixed game against Ballinteer at home to look forward to next Tuesday: |
| | As always folks - the advice remains the same. Find a fixture, get out into the fresh air and support a game wherever you can! |

| | Is there anything for wholesome than a toddler in his first jersey? When I saw young Rían Fallon at the Féile final last weekend, I had to grab a snap. Thanks to Grandad John for helping. There were 3 generations of Fallons there to support our lads; But Cathal is known for shunning the limelight so I didn't even ask. I'm calling it now - With Rían Fallon and CJ Hetherton in a hurling squad in a few years, that's going to be some formidable side! |
