Club Notes, 15th June 2022

Sun's up, midweek games, sure what more could you ask for?

A late start to the club notes for me, as I've come from a cracking win for the footballers in PNU against Skerries Harps. Final score was 3-10 to 0-13.  Considering we were down by 4 just before half time, this is a great result. This week we have a request for participation in a survey on injury prevention, a job posting on the CE scheme, and a shout out to our friends at Marino Athletic Club for the welcome return of the Griffith Avenue Mile.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

Lotto draw 14 June 2022.  Jackpot Prize was €8,000.  Numbers drawn were
5,10,15,16
There was no jackpot winner.  Weekly winner of €100 was John Calvert.

Lads. The prize is 8k.  A pretty tidy sum. Do you read this every week and say "I must do the aul lotto" and then skip past becasue the rest of the newletter is just so reiveting?  Ok.  That's fair.  But this time for once.  Give the link a click.  Gwan gwan gwan gwan.

Coffee Shop now open!

Two weeks back, without any fanfare, we lauched a coffee outlet in the main bar.  The outlet suplies specialty coffee, supplied by artisan roasters mean bean coffee, scones and pastries.  The outlet is proving to be very popular with our mini league parents.  Satuday morning is ideal to drop down and share a chat with other members.
Some of our more mature members have already been down for a coffee and a chat.  Last weekend I snapped George Power, John L'Estrange, Marc Wilson and Tony "Da" Lambe who came by and met up and got to chat with our Chairwoman, Una Barrett.

Check out the new look bar!

As well as a new coffee dock, the bar is getting a much needed refreshing.  Drop by this weekend to check out the first steps - The floor has been sanded and re-varnished, the tiles have been replaced and it's had a lick of paint.  Some new furniture is on the way too.  We think you'll like the refresh.

..which could do with a few more volunteers!

Spare a thought for Richie Conway, who is managing the bar.  Richie has a full time job and is also a mentor with the U12s.  Richie has kindly stepped up to manage the bar in a voluntary capacity, and I think we can all notice the difference in levels of service since he has come on board.  He has been helped by an able crew of bar voluteers; but we're always on the lookout for more help.  If you can spare a few hours per week (even better if you can spare the same hours per week!), do get in touch - there's a good crew there; you might even enjoy it!  If you think you can, drop a mail to barmanager@stvincentgsaa.ie, and Richie'll get you on the schedule.

Shout out for Community Employment Scheme Participants

We are also on the look out for 2 general workers we can employ under the community employment (CE) scheme.  The CE scheme is is designed to help people who are long-term unemployed (or otherwise disadvantaged) to get back to work by offering part-time and temporary placements in jobs based within local communities.  St Vincents currently has 2 positions open under the scheme. Duties include small maintenance jobs, internal an external waste management and other minor tasks around the club. if this suits you, or you know someone who may be interested, please get them to apply through KLEAR at this website.

Survey Request - Injury Prevention

DCU Sports science researcher Calvin Teahan dropped us a note to ask us to let you know about a survey he is running as part of his research. They are looking for adult Male and Female Coaches and Players to take a survey which "..is designed to assist in establishing the current trends on injury prevention exercise programmes within adult male and female Gaelic football, hurling and Camogie. It aims to determine the existing practices, attitudes and beliefs amongst athletes and coaches regarding injury prevention methods".  Sounds good to me.  The target audience for the survey is kinda everyone in the club; so do spare a few minutes.  The survey can be taken here.

This weekend is Mini Leagues last one before the summer break

Mini leagues will take it's summer break - the last mini leagues for the season will be on June 18th.  The break will last until the end of August; We'll announce the return date closer to the time.

So too, the all-stars

This Friday will be the final All-Stars of the season. If you're around, why not drop down to wish our all stars all the best - their training is from 5:15pm to 6pm.  A truly wonderful initiative that has gone from strength to strength.

Thank you, army of mentors

And while we're here - a big thank you to all of the mentors who have given up their weekends to ensure our mini leagues and All stars are the resounding success that they are.  Absolute key to this is the time you folks give up and we are forever grateful. Well done all!

Return of the Griffith Avenue Mile

It's great to see the return of the Griffith Avenue Mile; A 1 mile road race right through our parish which will take place on September 18th 2022.  I can't imagine the disappointment on the organising committee who built great momentum to revitalise this event.  Originally held in 1983, it was revived in 2019 only to be stopped for 2020 and '21 because of Covid.  So, the good news it is back, and they are taking registrations already.
Mentors: Wouldn't it be great for teams to enter to represent your team and your club ?  Full detail at the Griffith Avenue Mile Website.

Zumba! This weekend.

Saturday, June 18th sees us hosting a big Zumba Event from 3pm to 5pm. Full details, including tickets are available here. Tickets are €16.87 each.  Wait what? OK. They are €15 + fees.  Don't ask me, I don't make the rules.  Anyway.  If this poster is anything to go by, I'd say this is going to be mad craic altogether.

Weekend Roundup

I've only just come from a football fixture, so it's a surprise that there's another senior football game this weekend.  The senior footballers take on Ballinteer St Johns, away on Saturday evening.  Throw in is at 6:30pm.  The inter footballers are at home to Raheny at the same time.
Tomorrow night (Thursday) sees the Intermediate camogie team away to Whitehall (throw in 7:15), and the junior camog's also away; They take on Erin's Isle; also at 7:15).

As always, all games are detailed on our fixtures page,

Newsletter details

This newsletter is sent to over 1000 recipients and is a great way to inform members of club happenings. If you want anything included in the newsletter, drop a mail to pro@stvincentsgaa.ie. Comments and feedback are welcome too.

And finally..

Keep an eye out for this lot! No; It's not St Vincents, it's Fairview/Marino; the Dublin U14 Community Games champions 2022. Made up of girls from our U14 and U13 (and even U12) teams, they won the Dublin final yesterday, Tuesday against Ballymun.  They will now go on to represent Dublin in the Leinster Community Girls.  HON DE PARISH.  Great choice of kit too.
