Club Notes, 1st June 2022

Some stretch in the evenings

A reasonably quiet weekend ahead with a lot of teams on a post-league break. We'll have juvenile football competitions on bank holiday Monday; all in all a relatively brief update this week.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

Lotto draw 31rd May 2022.  Jackpot was €8,000.  Numbers drawn were:
 1, 13, 21, 23
There was no Jackpot winner.  The weekly winner of €100 was Patricia McCormack.

Next week's Jackpot will be €8,000. You got that right folks. Once our Jackpot hits €8,000 it will not grow until won.  Why not? Something about the law, and local lotteries.

Camogie Referee Course Coming Up

Dublin Camogie are running a referee's course (attendees must be over 18) for Camogie referees. Please note that this open to men and women.  The course is a foundation course, and once compelte, refs can officiate at camogie games in the 13-16 age group.
The course is in two modules; The first module is Thursday 9th June 7-9pm and is taken online. The second module is in person (Abbotstown, to be confirmed) on Saturday 11th June for 2 hours.
I'm told that this clashed with the leaving certificate, but best you know this up front. If you'd like to register, drop a note to the club secretary, Anne Harrington, who will be given the registration link once it is available.

Mini Leagues end on June 18th

Mentioned last week, but no harm in re-ierating.  Mini leagues will take it's summer break - the last mini leagues for the season will be on June 18th.  The break will last until the end of August; We'll announce the return date closer to the time.

Croke Park Recruiting for Turnstile Staff

This might be of interest to some of our Juveniles: Croke Park are recruiting to add to their turnsitle team for Croke Park. Candidates should be available at weekends, enthusiastic and customer focused. Full details in the enclosed flyer.  If you'd like to apply, you can do so at this link.

LGFA Competition: Would you like to play at Croke Park on TG4 All-Ireland Finals Day?

The LGFA are running a competition to be in with a chance to play exhibition games at the interval of the Ladies Gaelic All-Ireland Final this year. Note that the competition is open to U12 and GAA4Mothers&Others teams only.  Full Details at this link.

Summer Disco - Great Success

I couldn't make the Summer Disco myself, but word on the street is that the craic was mighty.  I'm told that the moves on show would put "dancing with the stars" in the Ha'penny place.  There's even rumours of the bar staff thinking they were in Coyote Ugly, a dance-off between Ladies Footballers and Camogie Players, and that it all ended like the finale of Dirty Dancing.  Some craic altogether.
On behalf of the Ladies football section, our thanks to everyone who attended, helped to organise, bought tickets and had the craic.

Speaking of Ladies Football

RTÉs "Brainstorm" programme this week featured an interesting section on the rise of Ladies Gaelic Football.  Some of the programme was shot in PNU, while our girls were training.  Our appearance may be brief, but it's a good piece giving insights into how the game was initally viewed, to where it is today.  You can catch the episode on the RTÉ Player.  The piece on Ladies Gaelic starts around the 18:45 mark.

Inter-County Roundup

A draw against Tipperary in Parnell Park last weekend in the Intercounty camogie.  By Niall Scully's account, this sounds like it was a belter. Well done to Aisling Maher, and Muireann Kelliher who were representing Vinnies.  Dublin take on Cork next, and we wish the girls all the best.  That's on this Saturday, June 4 in St Pergrines, Blakestown.  Throw in is at 5:30pm. Tickets can be purchased here.
Big congratulations to Niamh Hetherton, who was instrumental for the Dublin Footballers, coming on and grabbing the winner in Croke Park when Dublin took on Meath in the Leinster Final. Meath are current all-Ireland champions; a very important win for the Jackies.  You can read more about this here.

Mentors: Am I missing anyone?  if one of your players is lining out at county, drop me a mail, and I'll make sure to give them a shout out.

Club Draw - Thanks to everyone who entered

Thanks to everyone who entered the GAA National Club Draw.  All funds go directly to the club, and don't worry - they'll be put to good use!

Weekend Roundup

A relatively quiet weekend this week; The footballers were in action tonight (Wednesday); Hard luck to the senior footballers, who were defeated by Castleknock (3-11 to 2-19). Niall O'Connell, who takes photos for Castleknock has a nice set of images here.  The intermediates had a good win over Skerries Harps (3-10 to 0-08), while the adult ladies played out a 0-08 to 0-08 draw against St Sylvesters.
Well done to the Senior Hurlers, who defeated Cuala by 2-15 to 1-12 last weekend.

As always, all games are detailed on our fixtures page,

The Dave Billings Memorial Tournaments

Bank Holiday Monday (June 6) sees the return of the David Billings Gaelic Football Tournaments; Due to covid this has not been held since 2019, so it's great to see its return.
The tournaments are for both boys and girls, from U8 to U12.  It is split into U8/U9 and U10/11/12.
Registration begins at 10:00 am, and the emphasis is on fun.  Teams are mixed to ensure mixed capabilities, and there will be a cake sale on the day.  We hope to see you there!

And finally..

I know over the last few weeks we've been wishing Niamh Hetherton well in her Dublin football appearances.  What many might not realise is Niamh is a star player on our senior camogie squad, but began her football career some years back, before we fielded a ladies football team.  So, Niamh's Football club isn't St Vincents. hashtag sadface.
So, when GAA JOE.ie sent kudos our way last weekend, it seemed unfair to take the credit for her footballing skills
