Your Club Update
February 5th, 2020

Season beginnings, before one of them has yet to end.

Every time I find myself typing a new month into the headline, I'm struck by the speed of passing of time. So here we are in February. Already. A number of the juvenile games are starting out this weekend, and meanwhile the Junior Hurlers are still effectively contesting 2019. (Not actually, but hopefully you get my point). With the games kicking off, mammies and daddies can say goodbye to cosy duvet Saturday, and replace them with less cosy sidelines.  And we wouldn't have it any other way, bless.
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Right People: We need big support for the Junior Hurlers

This Saturday sees our Junior Hurlers in the Junior B All-Ireland Hurling FInal.  What an achievement! This competiiton has yet to be won by a Dublin team, and this could be history in the making. We take on Loughrea who narrowly defeated us earlier in the competition, and I know the team are eager to put this to rights!
The game is on in Kileedy GAA, Limerick. I may have mentioned this before: Killeedy put on a great welcome, and there's a cracking boozer just beside the club for a couple of scoops afterwards. Of course, I'm not promoting drinking culture. Please drink responsibly yada yada yada.
The game will be preceded by a parade with the Limerick City Pipe band at 1:30pm, with throw in at 2pm. We're putting on a supporters bus which you can book online here. €20 will get you all the to Limerick, and there's a special offfer where they'll even bring you back to the club for no extra charge.  You will, you will you will you will you will.  Best of luck lads!

A gentle reminder regarding footwear use at PNU2

Folks, we've had a great year with PNU2; It's getting constant use, and is open no matter what the weather. It truly is a great resource for the club. You may remember that when it was opened, we had information nights, and a number of communications regarding the correct footwear for wearing on the pitch.  So, here's a gentle reminder:
  1. Only players, mentors and match officials should enter PNU2. Parents and spectators are requested to remain in the viewing area off the pitch.
  2. If you have reason to be on the pitch, you need to be wearing football boots only. Shoes and running shoes (including astro trainers) are not allowed onto the pitch.
  3. We request that all mentors prime visiting teams. We have a simple handout (pdf, jpg) that can be sent on to opposing mentors ahead of time - It respectfully asks them to follow our guidelines.
Generally speaking, older teams seem to have got a hang of this; any lapses we've noted of late are parents of younger teams or parents of opposing teams.
Telling people to get off the pitch isn't pleasant; here's some tips:
  1. A quiet word in the ear of an opposing mentor means they can ask parents to leave the pitch.
  2. If you're a juvenile referee from St Vincents, please don't be shy about asking parents to retreat to the viewing area.
We thank everyone for the co-operation on this matter.

Operation Transformation walks still flyin'

We're maintaing great numbers on our operation transformation walks. They continue every Monday and Wednesday nights. Remember:
  • Meet at the club at 7:15
  • OPTIONAL Weigh ins each Monday before the walk
  • No charge - just show up and join in
  • Bring your friends, this isn't just for members; all are welcome.
This week was made even better by complimentary tea, coffee and biccies, and a generous donation of free yogurt from Glenisk.Fair play..

U14 Boys trip to Nemo Rangers, Cork

Congratulations to our U14 boys, who took part in the Mick O'Brien Competition in Nemo Rangers in Cork last weekend. (Good writeup from Nemo here). They made it to the B final but were pipped by Naas.

New membership system in place

The club are using a new system for both membership management and communications for this year. The system is provided by ClubZap. This includes a mobile app which can be used by everyone to manage their membership, and recieve information on individual teams, etc. The ClubZap app is available for iPhone in the App store or Android in the Google Play Store. Hopefully, you'll have received a renewal link from Club Zap.

2020 Memberships are now open for renewal

Membership renewal has been opened up and you can pay your membership online through ClubZap. Pricing and payment page available here. If you've already paid, we thank you for your prompt response.

Research Study - Can you spare 10 minutes?

We've had a request from DCU Student, and member of Parnells GAA, Ger Power.  He's doing a research as part of his final year thesis in Psychology. The research is to study "Gaelic games players and Rugby players attitudes towards referees.". I think everyone has opinions on referees, but let's face it, it's not like this is backed up with hard evidence or data, so this sounds like a worthwhile endeavour. It takes 10 minutes to fill out. If you're a player - please fill it out.  The survey is available here.

So you'd like to do a bit of hurling would ya?

The success of our Junior Hurlers, along with a growing panel of players means we're considering running two Junior Hurling teams for 2020. What do you think? Could you be persuaded? Maybe you stopped playing some time back, but fancy playing again. If you're interested, or you know someone who may be, let us know and we'll put you in touch with the relevant management.

Adult Fixtures all marked down

The county board have issued all AFL and AHL and MHL fixtures (MFL to follow). Obviously, there's a load of them, so I'm not adding everything to the diary just yet.  Keep an eye on these notes for weekend fixtures. I'll keep y'all posted.

This Weekend's Fixtures

Finally!  A number of Juvenile games down for this weekend. U8, 10, 12, 13, 15, and 16 all have games this weekend, and the U12 Ladies in action too, as are the U11 Camogie team. All games can be found on our dedicated fixtures page. Take your pick and get down to support our teams.

And finally..

Well done to the Dublin Senior Hurlers in their league win over Laois last weekend. Thanks to Riain McBride who took time out to get his photo with clubmate, Lola O'Reilly of the U11 team. Having witnessed Lola's support of our Camogie team, I know we've a superfan in the making!
