Your Club Update
October 9, 2019

Let's all get behind Cúl Community

Cúl Community is this weekend; we hope you can help out in any way you can. I've included some tips below on what you can do.  Remember folks, there's a part everyone can play. It's a chance to be involved in your club, your community. We hope to see you there.
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Cúl Community here's the details

Cúl Community (13th October) is our annual Lá na gClub. It's a fundraiser but way more. It is giving us a chance to show our colours throughout our parish, and come together as one club.
First, here's a link to the Facebook event. If you're a facebooker, why not mark yourself as going to help to spread the word. Next, there's a dedicated page on the club website, so it would be good to get yourself familiarised with the day.
  • The day will begin at 3pm with a sponsored hurling/football/camogie relay through the parish. Put simply, teams will begin at various landmarks around the parishes of Fairview and Marino and each will make their way back to the club. The idea is to have a presence throughout the parish, with all routes leading back to St. Vincents. We'll be in our club colours and be visible everyhere! Here's a big PDF map with all the routes. The starting points are:
    • U8s: Marino Park, Bottom Circle
    • U9s/U10s: St Vincent de Paul School, Griffith Avenue
    • U11s/U12s: Croydon Gardens (Top Circle)
    • U13s/U14s: Church of the Visitation, Fairview
    • U15s/U16s/Minor:  C&T, Philipsburgh Avenue
  • Back at the club we'll have a BBQ, and there will be games for the younger members in the hall, we'll have a tuck shop and the bar will be open. Farrell Hurls wil be there to help with advice about your hurling gear (and parents can get their christmas orders in!)
  • The Mini Leagues will end the relay with a run across PNU2.
  • A little later, but still early evening we'll have live entertainment in the club bar.
The hope is to get all members of the club together to celebrate our club and community, and to raise awareness of the club particularly amongst people who may be new to the area or have moved into some of the new housing developments in the parish. The sponsored aspect will also raise much needed funds.
Speaking of sponsorships: All sponsor cards that bring in more than €50 will be entered into a draw for a Vinnies hoody, and the team that raises the most sponsorship will also win a full set of Jerseys!

Here's some ideas on how you can help:
Parents: We need marshalls to walk the route, and supervise at junctions and so forth. If you're willing to come along, there's a meeting of marshalls at 2pm on Sunday in the club, with a view to leaving by 2:30 to get to your stating places. Marshalls will be given hi-viz jackets. If you can let your team's mentor know they will give your contact details to the organising committee. Please also note that sponsorship collection will occur at this week's training sessions, so make sure the young one's have hustled with family, neighbours etc!
We'll have collection buckets for the route too: To allow members of the public to donate to the club.
Mentors:Thanks for your efforts in spreading the word so far - please continue to push this with your teams and ensure that players and mentors know what the day is all about. Also please be aware that sponsor cards collection will be this week. If you wish to add images to your whatsapp messages etc, they are available here.
Players: This is our big club event, raise funds, wear your club gear and get involved in the day!

Please note that extended family members are welcome to come along and see what club life is all about.  Feel free to ask grandparents, aunts, uncles etc. All are welcome on the day.

This week's Lotto

 Lotto draw 7th October
Jackpot was €5,050.  Numbers drawn were:
15, 24, 14, 19
There was no online winner and no jackpot winner.   Weekly winners were Lorraine Daly and JJ Hayes.  Have you ever considered playing our lotto? Next week's jackpot is €5,200. Five. Thousand. Two Hundred. Nice. You can enter online here

Dub Club Health CPR Training

Did you know, that 10% of people who learn CPR will use that training in their life time? And 50% of them will perform a procedure on a loved one. I think we can all agree that learning CPR, how to use a defibrillator and how to deal with a choking victim are great skills to have. As part of the AIG Dub Club Health initiative we are hosting two CPR classes on Wednesday 16th October. If you'd like to come along (it's free!) please sign up here. We have enough places for a mentor from evey squad. Wouldn't that be something? Here's a useful video about the training. Plenty of sign-ups so far, but also spaces available.

GAA Youth Forum

The GAA Youth Forum is open for applications this week (from Friday 4th October to Sunday 13th October).  This is an event held in HQ for Youth Members.  In their own words it is
".. organised by the GAA YouthReps and run in partnership with Sky Sports. It is FREE and will be fun and informative with a mix of interactive exhibitions, workshops, a youth congress, high profile speakers and a Q&A session"
Sound good to me.  If you're interested in going, there's workshops aimed at ages 12/13, 14/15 and 16-21.  Full details are availble on the GAA Dedicated page,

Champo Watch

This is usually the section on fixtures, but given the teams in Championship action, I'm renaming it "champo watch" for now. Remember, you can access all fixtures on the  the fixtures page, but here's the various Champo update.
First, hard luck to the senior hurlers. Getting to the semis was no mean feat, but ultimately we came a cropper of a strong Cuala side, who are currently the bookies favourite to go all the way this year.
Juvenile Camogie
Well done to U13 who won their Division 2 Shield Semi final on a score line of 8-6 to 0-0 . They're through to the Division 2 sheild final.
Well done to U14 who won their Division 2 Semi Final on a scoreline of 0-04 to 0-03 in a game I hear was a belter against Naomh Barróg in Raheny, so are through to a Division 2 final.
Well done to U16 who won their Division 1 Shield Semi Final on a scoreline of 4-19 to 1-5, which puts them through to a Division 1 Shield Final.
This weekend has no juvenile camogie, so those games will be played at a future date, and I will of course keep you posted.
Ladies Football
U18 Ladies contest the Division 6 Shield (knockout stage) this Saturday at 1:30pm against Cuala B on MIE.

Our U16 ladies team are at home on Sunday at 4:30pm against Lucan Sarsfields in Division 1 championship action. I'm sure they can rely on big support as we'll all be back at the club for Cúl Community! That's on PNU2
Adult Camogie
Another strong win for the Senior 1 camogie team (3-13 to 0-05 against Faughs), means we're now into the Senior 1 Semi Final.  This takes place this Sunday at 10:00 am against Lucan on PNU1. Not a bad opener to our Cúl Communtiy day, wha? (Facebook event here)
Hard luck to the Intermediate Camogie team who were narrowly beaten by Castleknock in the Intermediate Semi Final on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-12.
Well done to the Junior 1 Camoige team: They beat Balinteer St Johns in Round 5 of the Championship by 2-9 to 0-03. They now contest the Junior 1 Semi Final against Whitehall Colmcille this Sunday at 10:00 am up in Whitehall.
Hard luck to Junior 2 who were beaten by Good Counsel in Round 4 of the Junior 2 Championship on a scoreline of 1-4 to 3-6.
Juvenile Boys
Well done U16 A who won their U16 A Sheild clash against Commercials on a score line of 2-22 to 3-17.
The U16 A Footballers take on Kilmacud Crokes out at Silver Park at 3pm this Saturday in the U16 A Football championship.
The U16 B Footballers take on St Catherine's on the U16 "D" Championship at home on Saturday at 3pm on PNU1.
Minor Football
3 Good wins for the Minor Football squads:
Minor A beat St Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh by 5-10 to 1-2 in their Minor A group clash. Unfortunately, the other group games didn't work out as hoped, so Minor A bow out of the football championship.
Minor B beat Clontarf by 5-17 to 1-7 and are through to their Minor "C" Quarter Final.
Minor C beat Ballyboden St Endas by 4-15 to 2-6  and are through to their Minor "E" Quarter Final

The senior footballers contest the senior football championship 1 quarter final this Saturday, at 5:15pm in Parnell Park v St. Judes. (Facebook event here)
