Very busy social time upcoming!

I metioned the collection of events scheduled for St Patrick's day last week; Hopefully you're now planning at least some of your weekend in the club.  Hope to see you there.
A full weekend; I counted 38 or so games on the fixtures schedule; for the adult men this is a hurling weekend, and the Camogie team have pulled a game forward, so another two-for-one on PNU1 on Sunday morning

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

PNU2: A Reminder regarding footwear

PNU2 has undoubtedly been an amazing resource to add to our facility. At time of launch we did plenty of education around the pitch, and surface, and how we all need to do our best to maintain the surface. There's even a dedicated webpage on the club website about this. In recent times, however we've noticed that adherence to guidelines on footwear has been slipping.  Incorrect footwear could significantly reduce the life of the pitch, and we all owe it to each other to remain diligent to get the most of this great facility.
Mentors: We'd ask you to let opposition know ahead of time about the playing surface, and the required footwear.  There's a flyer that you can download, which can be sent via text or whatsapp.  Here: I'll even write you a sample text
Hi <Opposition Mentor>, We're looking forward to our match against you this weekend.  This game is scheduled to be played on our artifical surface, PNU2.  To help maintain this surface, we ask if all mentors would wear boots on the pitch. The enclosed flyer shows permitted footwear.
Thanks
..

Great article for international womens day

From the "tell us something we don't already know" department, the GAA published a great article this week showcasing our GPO, Emma and her sister, Louise in an article titled  "Byrne twins the perfect role-models for female coaches".  We 100% agree. Plaudits for Emma come from all corners of St Vincents; and we regularly see Louise around the club too, who goes beyond her own duties in DCU to help us out when necessary.  Congratulations to Emma and Louise on a fitting tribute

Speaking of women

Good win for the Dublin U16s who opened their Leinster campaign with a win over Meath last weekend (4-09 to 2-09). Well done to Tessa Lambe who represented Vins.

Adult football - Great weekend last weekend

A good return last weekend on the football front: All 6 competitive games ended in wins. Well done to :
  • Senior Footballers, with a 2 point win over Clontarf
  • Intermediate Footballers, who also had a 2 point win over Clontarf
  • Junior As had a 5 point win over Beann Eadair
  • Junior Bs had a 8 point win over St Pats
  • U19 Hurlers beat Boden
  • U17 won away versus Castleknock.
A particularly shout out to Rory O'Neill who bagged a last minute goal in the Intermediate game to end a 2 year unbeaten run by Clontarf.

Mickey Whelan's book launch

You may have seen a separate mail about the launch of Mickey Whelan's autobiography "Love of the Game" which is on in the club on the evening of the 25th March. Mickey has managed and coached St Vincents and Dublin, and is currently the club President.  It is only fitting that his book is officially launched in CLG Naomh Uinsionn.  The event will consist of a "fireside chat" with Mickey and Pat Gilroy, hosted by Tommy Martin. The book will be avilable for sale on the evening, and Mickey will be signing copies too. Entry to this event is open to all and free, but places are limited so reserve your place at this link.

This weekend's action

No shortage of games this weekend. The fixtures page is certainly full.
Here's a few highlights:
Ladies Football:
Our Minor A team play Foxrock/Cabinteely on Saturday afternoon at 3pm. At the same time, the Minor B girls take on Lucan on MIE.  FoxCab are traditionally a powerhouse of ladies football so this should provide a great game.
Camogie:
The Senior Camogie are in action against Naomh Jude.  That's on Sunday morning (13 March) on PNU1 at 9:45 am.

Adult Hurlers
Immediately after this game, the senior hurlers take on Whitehall Colmcille in AHL1 action.

And if that wasn't enough, the Junior A Hurlers are also playing Whitehall Colmcille, also at home, also on Sunday. Their game is on PNU2, with thrown in at 12:15.  The neck'll be craned off ya trying to keep up with both!

Good luck also to the Intermediate Hurlers (away to St Marks), Junior B hurlers who take on Peregrines in MIE and the U17 and U19 lads who also have games this weekend.

Sunday Sing-Along

Did you know that every Sunday, there's a social event in the club aimed at the more mature members of our community?  This is not a members-only thing - anyone can come along.
It starts on Sunday evening at 8:30, and is described as "Whether you like social dancing or just getting up to sing a song to live music or even just sit and listen to the music, come along and enjoy the atmosphere - you will get a great welcome"
The organisers say there's something in here for everyone - "from line dancing to rock and roll, and everything in between".  Admission is €4 on the door, and they also have a raffle with spot prizes on the night.
Upcoming acts :
March 13: The Values
March 20: Maurice Nagle

A call for help - Wither a plumber?

I've been asked to put a shout out for a plumber. Is there any plumbers in the club? We have a number of helpful tradesmen that we rely on for small jobs, and advice.  We've Sparks, Chippies, Painters, Mechanics, Diesel fitters, but not a plumber in sight.  Don't worry, we won't inundate you; If you can lend a hand the odd time, please drop Michelle in the office a mail

And finally..

Congratulations to the Ard Scoil Rís Junior Hurlers.  They just won the Dublin Schools Final for Under 16.5 against St Fintan's on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-08.  Plenty of Vins lads in this team, who now take their campaign to Leinster.  Onwards boys!
