| International Women's Day 2023 |
| Today, March 8th is International Women's day. International women's day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality. This year's theme is “Embrace Equity”. The IWD website explains this nicely: “The aim of the IWD 2023 #EmbraceEquity campaign theme is to get the world talking about Why equal opportunities aren't enough. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action” You can read more about the distinction between equality and equity here. St Vincents would not be the club it is without our many female players, mentors, volunteers, coaches and supporters. On this day, of all, we thank you for all you do for our club! |
| | Speaking of Women: Big launch in the Camogie section last weekend |
| Last weekend saw the launch of the 2023 Camogie academy. Some great initiatives coming out of Camogie. Highlights include: - A one-team approach across both senior squads. All coaching and drills will be used by all squads.
- A big focus on next-generation of players and coaches; Players are measured on game time to ensure development
- A Coaching led model Graham Dillon (Senior 1) and Áine Fanning (Senior 2) with a back room including a statistician, nutritionist and physiotherapist.
- Appointed Player liaison members.
The whole structure will be managed by Kathryn Kantounia. As always, the Camogie folks know how to do a launch: A presentation, with new appointments announced, followed immediately by a no-nonsense, full-on training session, capped off by a healthy breakfast. We congratulate everyone involved, and wish Katch, and Áine in particular all the best in their new St Vincents roles! Keep an eye out for their #OneTeam tag. |
| | 2023 Memberships: Time's short! |
| IMPORTANT: Any player who was registered last year who has yet to renew please note that your 2022 registration expires on 31 March 2023. We urge you to get your subscriptions paid prior to this, as our new registration process only registers fully paid-up members of the club. Thank you to the big majority of members who have paid up their fees. Players - If you are unsure about if you are registered, please speak to your mentors, who can contact me to check. Players should note that it is their responsibility to ensure their membership is paid. Any player who inadvertently plays without registration is not covered by the player injury fund. The membership fee rates for 2023 are online with Club Zap. Payment can be made online at https://vins.ie/membership. Students must upload their current student id to avail of student rates. Please contact Michelle at 01-8335722 or office@stvincentsgaa.ie should you have any queries. If you'd like to download a copy of the chairperson's letter regarding memberships, you can get it here. |
| Ardscoil Rís: Upcoming 50th Anniversary Mass |
| Current Ardscoil religion teacher, Mr Carroll was in touch to let us know about a mass to celebrate 50 years since the founding of the school: "We are having a mass to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the school in 1972 on Sunday, March 26th 3 pm in St.Vincent de Paul church Marino. Past pupil Bishop Fintan Gavin will be the main celebrant. Following the mass, you are invited to join us for refreshments and the sale of our commemorative 50th book in the school sports hall. | Interesting job opportunity: ClubZap are looking for an account manager |
| The folks who run ClubZap, the member management tool the club uses were in touch to say they are looking for a new account manager, for a fully remote job. It would suit those with an interest in GAA , as it involves supporting and troubleshooting for their clients. They say: "We get so much incredible engagement and feedback from our clubs. Now we want to open the door to you about an upcoming role. If you, or someone you know, loves sport and enjoys interacting with customers then this role might be just for you. We are looking for a highly motivated person to support our customers in making the most of what ClubZap can offer. The position is a full-time, fully remote Account Manager. Some experience in a similar customer-facing role is necessary but overall we're looking for people who are passionate about sport, and their club even moreso. Our company mission is to maximise the impact of sports clubs in communities and you would be joining our growing team in working directly to this ethos." The full job spec is available at this link. (If I can be allowed my perspective on this: As a person who has to avail of their help and support from time to time, I can say these folks are passionate about their product, and about supporting GAA clubs. If you think this is your thing, apply!) |
| Entries for your social diary |
| Folks, yours truly will be taking a week off next week, so no notes next week, and social media posts will probably get ignored less priority. With that in mind: The social events coming up won't come with more reminders, so if you're the sort who says “I'll get my tickets next week”, consider this your notice. Think if it as effectively “next week”. J7 Quiz Night The Junior 7 footballers are having a fundraising quiz night in the club bar on Friday (THAT'S THIS FRIDAY!), March 10 from 7:30 pm. Tickets are €60 for a table of six, and if you can't make a table, no worries - you can purchase a ticket for one, the folks will find you a team. Tickets are available here. |
| | St Patrick's Day in St Vincents What are you up to on Friday 17th March (Bank holiday!)? The day will begin with a family treasure hunt for pots of gold around the club. This is one to bring grannies and grandads, aunts and uncles along for. In the afternoon, we'll have an open mic slot for club members who can play an aul tune. I know there are a number of folks who play the tin whistle, fiddle, guitar or have a voice. Get yourself down and entertain your fellow members! The evening will top off with a live ballad session with Aidan Kelly. We hope to see you there. |
| | And more on social events.. |
| Who remembers when Thursday nights in the club were a players' and supporters' night? Before my time, I'm sure; and days of every-week-drinking do seem to be a thing of the past generally. A number of folks are looking to bring back a regular get-together, with a more realistic ambition! Tuesday-crew member, Eamon Earley sent this in: “A number of years ago Thursday night was always a players, mentors, selectors and supporters night, which included the current Thursday night clique (”The Kenco Club"). A few past players and supporters are trying to get this night back up and running again. We hope it will facilitate people in meeting up again, having a chat, share experiences in games of past and present. We have checked with the Bar team who have agreed to open and staff the bar to facilitate this. We plan to hold our first night on the 23rd of March and every 3rd Thursday night of each month thereafter." Sounds delightful! We hope to see you there. |
| | A Couple of useful courses |

Whitehall Colmcille GAA: Working with Parents In Sport Whitehall Colmcille were kindly in touch to offer places on two upcoming workshops - one for mentors and one for Parents. I think this would be highly beneficial, and particularly for those parents who's children have recently started their GAA journey: "Whitehall Colmcille would invite you to share the following workshops, “Working With Parents In Sport”, with your parents and coaches. Gordon MacLellend has a wealth of experience, supporting organisations (Dublin GAA, Dublin Camogie, England Rugby, British Gymnastics, Irish Football Association to name a few) parents and coaches in working together to provide children with the best possible sporting experiences. | Gym Schedule and Usage Guidelines |
| The Club Gym is a resource for all adult playing members. Access to the gym is using a fob, which can be purchased in the club office for €25 for the year. Some simple rules apply: - Anyone attending the gym should have their own fob. No tailgating! The money that you pay goes directly to the upkeep of the gym, so anyone accessing it should be contributing.
- Wipe down all equipment after use.
- Please take any rubbish, empty water bottles etc. out with you.
- Try to leave the Gym in a better state than you found it.
Players should also note that at times, the gym will be booked for team slots or for classes operated by Athletic Profile Monitoring. When classes or team slots are in use, members should not avail of the Gym Facilities. The Gym schedule is published on the club website at this location |
| Last weekend's adult round-up |
| Not a great return from last week's games: Adult Men Senior Football lost to Lucan (0-12 to 3-9) Inter football lost to Lucan (1-9 to 1-7) Junior A Football lost to Castleknock 2-11 to 3-4 Junior B Football beat Round Towers Clondalkin 3-6 to 0-09 Minor Boys Minor 1 Hurling drew with Cuala 1-13 to 0-16 Minor 2 Hurling had a big win over Erins Isle Minor Ladies Football The A team suffered a loss at the hands of Templeogue Synge Street (3-9 to 2-7) The B team game result hasn't been posted, so I've no news on that one. My apologies to the minor B ladies. Minor Camogie Good win for the Minor A over Cuala (5-11 to 2-4) Unfortunately, the B team suffered a loss to Raheny (5-5 to 1-5) Mixed fortunes in the Hurling Féile too: The A team beat Ballyboden 3-9 to 0-13 Unfortunately, the B team were beaten by Na Fianna 1-4 to 6-5 |
| | CCC1 Boys It's a football weekend for the youngsters who'll be as far flung as Balgriffin, Porterstown and Lucan. Best of luck to you all. CCC2 Boys For our older young lads, it's a hurling weekend. If I were to pick a game out of this lot, I suspect the U16 A Hurling game against Kilmacud (Ardscoil Rís, 3:00 pm, Saturday) should be a corker. A mention of course too to the Féile team, who will play Football this weekend. The A team head away to Tymon Park (Sunday 12th, 12:00 pm) to take on Judes, while the B team take the short trek to St Anne's to take on Clontarf (Sunday 12th, 11:30 am). Juvenile Girls Juvenile Girls will have a Camogie weekend. My pick of this lot is the U15 Division 1 clash against Ballinteer (Saturday 11th, 1:30 pm). Minor Girls The Minor Girls contest Football this weekend, so we wish all the best to the A team, who take on St Judes at home (Saturday, 11th, 3:00 pm, PNU2) and to the B team who also play at home. They welcome St Sylvesters to PNU2 also on Saturday at 5:30 pm. Adult Ladies Senior 1 Camogie head over to 12th Lock to take on Lucan in their round 2 match. While it is early days, they are sharing the top of the table, with the same points difference, so this will be an important clash. This throws in Sunday morning at 10:30 am. |
| | At the same time, The Senior 2 girls will be over in Portmarnock where they meet Naomh Mearnóg. Minor Lads As you may have heard, we're fielding 3 Minor teams this year, so they are in action as follows: The A team play Sunday at 11:00 when they go to Lawless Park to meet Fingallians. The B team also play Sunday at 11:00; That's at home on MIE, when they welcome St Maurs. The C team start the weekend early: They play Friday evening on PNU2 (8:00 pm) when they meet Skerries Harps. Adult Men A hurling weekend for the adult men: The Seniors travel to Martin Savage Park (Sunday morning, 10:15 am) to Play Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh |
| | The intermediate team are also in action Sunday at 10:15 am. There's is a home game against St Marks, which will be played in St Davids. The Junior As have a short trip to St Anne's to take on Clontarf (Sunday 12:15 pm), while the Junior Bs travel to St Catherine's park (Also Sunday, 12:15 pm) where they meet Erin Go Bragh. Plenty to get into there folks. Take your pick! Full detail as usual on our fixtures page |
