Your Club Update
November 6, 2019

And the rain just keeps on comin'

November already? This year is flying in. November sees the beginning of the wind down. I know it won't be long until I'm announcing the C*********s Married v Singles extravaganza. November also means rain, which brings with it sad PNU1 closures, with PNU2 staring over at it with a big all-weather smirk on its face.
We have more potential road trips on the cards, the Senior Footballers are in league action too, and a couple of social events lined up. So why not include us in busy social calendar this November?
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

A TV Advert you say? Go 'way

There's an advert been shot for a certain Inter-county National League campaign, next week and the producers are looking for some extras to take part. We're essentially looking for GAA fans of all ages so rope in Nana and Grandad too.  Filming is in Parnell Park next Tuesday from 3pm-6pm.  If you'd like to come along sign up at this form. The form is really to gather contact information (for instructions closer to the time) and so the production company can rely on the numbers. But the data is managed by St Vincents and rest assured it will be deleted after the shoot.  We hope as many Vincents people as possible can make it!
There will be additional filming in the club on Wednesday 13th, so no training will be on that evening.

This week's Lotto

The lotto Jackpot was won! The lotto from October 21 was claimed! The winner was Bernie McGuirk from the Sunday night sing-a-long. This meant that this weeks lotto Jackpot reverted to €1,000.

Lotto Draw 5th November
Numbers drawn were:
 05, 16, 04, 23
There was no Jackpot winner and no online winner. Weekly winners were Agnes O'Connor from the Sunday night sing-a-long and Padraig Mac Criostal Senior.  Next weeks Jackpot will be €1,150.

Calling U16 Girls: Gaelic Voices for Change Youth Workshop

One last call: Anyone from U16 Camogie or Ladies Football ?
The Gaelic Players Association are running a "Gaelic Voices for Change Youth Workshop". We're looking for U16 players to represent St Vincents at this 1/2 day workshop on the morning of the 16th November.  We've had two of the U16 lads sign up, and would love to have a U16 ladies footballer or camogie player to represent too. The players will join Eamon Fennell, Senior Team player and former Dublin Senior player for a workshop  focused on online safety. If you're the parent of an U16 player who'd be willing to get involved, or you're an U16 mentor, drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie for full information. Parents of attendees can attend too.

Free Seminar for Juvenile Coaches from Leinster Council

Turas is an initiative from the Leinster Council aimed at helping coaches develop players, particularly at juvenile level. In their own words: "The main aim of Turas is to provide club, school and talent and academy coaches with regular and meaningful coach development opportunities". They are running two seminars on November 16th in the National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown; one is aimed at coaches who train 4-11 year olds and the other is aimed at coaches who train 11-17 year olds. There is no fee to attend, and the seminars are just half day.  Full details can be found on the Leinster Council website.

Phasing out of Bar Smartcards

The club's till systems have recently been upgraded and do not support a smart card system.  In addition, the software license to support the smart card system outweighs any benefit to the club. This along with the rise of contactless card use means our smart card system is no longer economically viable.  As a result, the executive have agreed to phase out our smart card system.  This mean that with immediate efffect:
  • No smart card topups will be accepted
  • All balances must be spent by the end of the calendar year (31/12/2019)
The bar has absorbed recent wholesale increases from Heineken and Diageo to counteract the discount previously enjoyed by smart card users.

Well Done U12s: Retained the Sean Sammon Trophy for Vins

Congratulations to the U12s who took part the annual Sean Sammon memorial tournament in Parnells GAA. This was won by last year's U12s so great to see the title being retained by the club. Our lads had to beat strong teams from Parnells, St Pats Donabate, and Craobh Chiarain to seal their win.

Junior Hurlers win Epic Rain Soaked Battle

The Junior Hurlers travelled to Kilkenny to play O'Loughlin Gaels in the Leinster Junior B Quarter Final. In what was the worst of weather, our guys came from 0-06 to 0-04 down at half time to level the game at full time to 1-10 to 0-13. So two halves of extra time beckoned. And after that, there was still nothing between the teams. So extra extra time was played. And still nothing between them! Jayney COULD IT GET ANY MORE TENSE?
The rule at this stage was the game had to be decided by 65s, which we won 5 points to 4.  Here's a video of the reaction to Conor Casserly's match winning 65. We're now through the Junior B Leinster Semi-Final, which is down for later in November. This will be held in Killeady GAA in Limerick. If this game was anything to go by, a road trip is deffo worth it!

Friends of Dublin Hurling - Annual Celebration

Leinster Camogie Final Details Confirmed

The Leinster Camogie Final details have been..finalised. We play St. Martin's of Wexford at 2:30 pm on Sunday 17th November in Donaghmore Ashbournes GAA. (Facebook event here). Now folk. Wait 'till I tell ya. Google Maps says that's a 24 minute drive away.  Sure, isn't it only up the road? We need to get out in big numbers for this game!

This Weekend's Fixtures

The senior footballers are back in action this weekend: They contest the AFL1 semi final against Ballymun at 2pn on Saturday out at Pairc Ciceam. Remember, we're the current holders of the ALF1 title, so all to play for. There's facebook event here.
Very little left by way of championship, at least this weekend.
Minor Camogie
In Dublin, Minor Camogie is a short competition run once all other games have been played. It's a great way to develop players, pity it's not just a formal 2 year grade. Our Minor A team take on Lucan Sarsfields in group 2 of the Division 1 Minor competition. It's on this Thursday on PNU2 at 8:15pm.
Juvenile Hurling
Our 16A team contest the U16 A Shield. That's on Saturday at 3pm against St Judes in Tymon Park.
