The calendar is full this weekend. Hurling for the men and Féile teams, Minor Ladies are in dual action and football for minor lads. We've a few other bits and pieces to cover. As always, thanks for sticking with me! Word to the wise: This Sunday is Mother's day, so if you're in Sunday action, don't forget that Mammy should probably be granted a day off getting you to your game, and even after the game, perhaps you might want to acquaint yourself with the cooker and dishwasher and serve up the Sunday roast! |

Important information about registrations | Folks - Please note that in order to be insured and to play, all players must be registered with the GAA, LGFA or Camogie Association via Foireann. Some important points: If you pay your membership fee, you don't need to do anything more - We push all paid-up members through to Foireann to register them. - LGFA's registration runs to 31 March 2024, so if you were registered with the LGFA last year, you're still registered.
- The Camogie Association registration also runs to 31 March 2024; so last year's registration is also still in force.
- The GAA's registration for 2023 ended on 31/12/2023, so any players playing this weekend need to have their membership paid; we'll continue to push any new members through to Foireann over the weekend.
Get yourselves in quick! Mentors: If you have a special request, let me know and I'll try my best to get to them. I recommend sending an email to pro@stvincentsgaa.ie and copying secreatary.stvincents.dublin@gaa.ie Mentors who will need team sheets over the weekend are advised to log on to Foireann and ensure their teams are set up correctly. Please do this sooner rather than later! Players: If you haven't paid your membership, you need to do so ASAP! | |

Support for people with problems associated with gambling. |
Mental Health Charity Cross Care were in touch to let us know about a free service to help people suffering from problem gambling. They said: "I am contacting local sports and community clubs to highlight a new service, supported by the HSE, for people affected by problem gambling and gaming in the North Dublin city and county area. As you will be aware, excessive gambling and gaming continue to affect the mental, emotional and financial well-being of thousands of young people in our communities. This new service offers free, confidential advice and support to anyone whose gambling or gaming habits have gone out of control and to family members who are suffering as a result. I am contacting community groups in North Dublin to make them aware that this new service is in place and, if they know of anyone who needs support, to be able to direct them to get the help they need. Confidential support can be accessed by phoning 01 8657200 or email support@DNCCgamblingaming.ie We have more details on our website" |

Senior Footballers Fundraising Lunch- Congratulations to the organisers |
Great to see a big turnout for the footballer's fundraising lunch last Friday. Over 200 folks in attendance to support the team, and listen to Bryan Cullen and Tommy Walsh give their views on Gaelic, Hurling and Vincents teams past and present. This year also saw a good attendance from the players themselves which helps them see first hand the support that gets behind the team. They topped off the ceremonies with a presentation to recent team retirees Tomás Quinn and Michael Savage. Hats off to the organisers for another great event. |
53 Years ago blast from the past |
Friend of the club, Kevin Maguire sent on a nice piece. Kevin, along with his Dad have a collection of programmes from days of yesteryear, and he sent one in to us to add to our archives. Here's a sneak peak of the cover: |
The final was held in 1971, against Craobh Chiarain. Some gems from this programme: It cost a whopping 5p, and it sounds like times were good in the 70s! Included in the programme is an advert for Marcus Wilson's Tricolour Travel Limited who were said to have "arranged St. Vincents forthcoming trip to Canada and America". Good times indeed! It also concludes with a full page for Guinness; Alcohol advertising has been done away with in GAA programmes so that's not an image you'll see again soon. Want to see the full thing? You sure can. A clean sweep last weekend for the Footballers. Last weeks AFL1 game had been pulled forward, so got a mention in last week's notes, but we had a good win over Ballyboughal (4-19 to 1-6) The intermediates also did well against St Brendans, beating them 3-13 to 0-4 The junior A played out a thriller against the Craobh, coming from 8 points down to win by 2. Final score was 2-13 to 1-14. I'm told this broke a 21 game streak of Chiarain's. I think the AFL8 game against Peregrines had to be postponed due to pitches being called off. The U15 A Féile Football had a good win over Raheny in Div 2, but the U15 Féile Football B: Lost to St Annes. The minor hurlers had a mixed bag: The A team had a draw with Na Fianna, the B team's game was off due to pitches being off, and the Minor C hurlers won well over Ballyboden St Endas. A disappointing weekend for the ladies: The Minor A ladies footballers were defeated by Thomas Davis, and the Minor B were not in action last weekend. Similarly, the Minor A camogie weren't in action, but the Minor B Camogie team lost to O'Tooles. Finally, the Intermediate camogie team were in Leinster League action, where they had a 5 point loss to Naomh Olaf. |
For adult men, it is a hurling weekend, which makes it a football weekend for minors. Adult Camogie has not started yet, except for our entry in the Leinster League, and the Minor Ladies Footballers and Camogie teams are both up on Saturday and Sunday. For the Féile lads, its a hurling weekend too. Saturday sees the Minor A ladies take on St Brigids in Division 2; That's away in Russel Park at 3pm. At the same time, the Minor B ladies footballers make the short journey to St Anne's to take on Raheny, and Sunday morning minds will switch into Camogie when the Minor A head to Swords to take on Fingallians, while the Minor B Camogie team are at home to Lucan. The intermediate camogie team continue in the Leinster League - They travel to Carlow on Sunday to play Mount Leinster Rangers, throwing in at 2:00 pm. The minor lads all have football games at 11:00 on Sunday morning: Minor A take on Naomh Mearnog on St Davids pitch Minor B take on St Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh on the Ard Scoil Rís Gerry O'Brien pitch Minor C travel to Howth to meet Binn Eadair Féile Lads also are hurling this weekend: The A team are at home on Sunday morning at 11:00 am on PNU2 where they'll welcome St Kevins, the B team travel to Tymon park to meet St Judes on Sunday morning; that throws in at 11:30 am. For the adult men, it's hurling: AHL1 are on first thing on Sunday morning, when they play St Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh on PNU1 at 10:15 am on Sunday morning |
|
The intermediate hurlers are also in action at 10:15 am Sunday morning: they are over in Portmarnock to meet Naomh Mearnog. The Junior A hurlers are also in against Mearnog. Theirs thows in at 12:15 on Sunday afternoon, and the Junior B hurlers are at home on St Davids against Naomh Maur, aslo at 12:15. And of course, we've a full programme of juvenile, from U8 to U16, full details on our Fixtures Page. |
