Club Notes, 6th April 2022

Lots of things to get involved with

As I filled out the fixtures page this evening, I counted over 40 entries created. Thats some weekend. There's defiinitely something for you to drop by and show your support.  Also, with the AFL1 and AHL1 now on Saturday evenings at 6, it beats the heck out of vegging on the couch for the evening to Ant and Dec.
There's a few upcoming things to tell you about (and I know of more to come!); The bar crew are looking for your thoughts, and there's an interesting talk on nutrition from one of our own too.  So, hopefully we'll see you on the sidelines, in the bar, and at a talk.  Wowsers.  So much choice.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

There was no lotto drawn last Monday.  Or I missed it.  I'll put it into next week's notes.  Remider that the jackpot currently sits at €7,150.

Nutrition Talk by Dr. Brendan Egan

You may have spotted a "register your interest" form a couple of weeks back regarding an upcoming talk on nutrition.  This is now been arranged for Saturday 23rd April at 11:00 in the main club hall.  This talk will be given by Dr Brendan Egan, Associate Professor of Sport and Exercise Physiology, and Deputy Head of School, in the School of Health and Human Performance at Dublin City University.  Dr Egan plays senior football with St Vincents and has kindly offered to give this talk.
Folks: Brendan gave a similar talk some years back, which I was lucky enough to attend.  I'd highly recommend it; it's very informative, and casual;   He gives a good overview of the need for good nutrition, as well as easy to follow tips on improving your diet. His talk is aimed at juvenile players but parents are encouraged to come along too.  The talk is open to all members of the club.
Places are free, but limited, so if you'd like to secure a place - nab a ticket here.
The first 50 tickets come with a free chocolate bar. No they dont.  Of course they dont. That was a joke;  I'll get me coat.

Vinnies Bar - What should we concentrate on?

A sub-committee has been set up to look at improvements to the club bar. This will require some fundraising, but to kick it off, the committee asked me to ask you your thoughts.  Tells us your thoughts about the bar here.  It's a quick survey and won't take long! Please and thanks on behalf of the bar committee.

Ladies football focus

Good win on Monday for the Div 1 Minor Girls, who defeated Cuala 1-13 to 3-4. Commiserations to the minor B girls who suffered a defeat to the Kilmacud B team, word on the street is they put in a good shift, and there's constant improvement.  Keep it up girls. Having two minor teams for ladies football is a great achievement for the club, we're all behind you!
Good luck Tessa Lambe who represents Vincents when she lines out for the Dublin U16s v Kildare this Saturday. No room for recovery, as she'll be in inter-county Camogie action on Sunday when Dublin take on Wexford. Give it socks, Tessa!

Want to take part in a run for a good cause?

Senior Hurler, Eanna MacDomhnaill was in touch about a charity event that his family organise:
"My family is organising a charity fun run called the Good Run in aid of Motor Neurone Disease Charities: Research Motor Neurone (RMN) and the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) on Good Friday. The event will take place on Good Friday, 15th of April in St Anne's Park at 11am. Registration can be done online at thegoodrun5k.com, or on the day from 9:30am. The run will start at the end of the avenue, beside the clock tower."
Hats of to the MacDomhnaill's for organising, and well done to Eanna on persuading the senior hurlers to get involved too!

Vetting is Changing

The vetting process with our associations (GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association) is changing.  The process remains similar, but is now to be initiated via Foireann, the GAA's membership management system.  It's a resonably complex process, but I'll try to summarise.  The GAA have produced full documentation here.  In short:
  1. The Applicant applies for vetting through Foireann.
  2. This is validated by the club Children's officer.
  3. The national vetting bureau gets in touch with the applicant direcly, who fills in details with them.
  4. The outcome of the vetting process is communicated to the applicant and the children's officer.

Why is it like this?  At a guess I'd say this is about trust and privacy.  Essentially, by our children's officer validating the application they are saying "St Vincents would like this person vetted for our club".
The NVB then get information directly from the applicant, and this information is never shared with the club.  (This is a good thing! It is between the applicant and the NVB).
Finally, the NVB decides on the outcome and the applicant is told (naturally!), and the club is told; This is essentially saying "The NVB supports this candidate's application" (or indeed, "The NVB does not support this candidate's application").
Simples, eh ?  Ahhhhhnyway... If you are asked to get Garda vetted, your first port of call will be to log into foireann (or if you don't have an account, setting one up), and visiting the "Qualifications and Vetting" section of the profile and taking it from there.

The GAA National Club Draw - Tickets at the bar

The GAA run a national club draw each year.  It's an interesting fund raiser for the club.  Here's why:
  1. Tickets are just €10.
  2. The prizes are good! The top prize is a car.
  3. All money raised by the sale of tickets remains with the club.
  4. There's also prizes on offer for the club too.
Tickets are available in the club bar; But we recognise that some people cannot get up to the club bar, so we've devised a plan for those who'd like to purchase a ticket online:
For those who want to - you can purchase a ticket online here.
When you make a purchase, we'll fill out a physical ticket on your behalf and enter it into the draw.
We'll keep your stub for safe keeping in the club office.

This weekend's action

All of the juveniles in action this weekend. But the action seems to be non stop at the moment.  Tonight, as I wrote this, the Adult Ladies were up against St Brigids; I've not heard the score, but tomorrow Thursday, we've 3 of our camogie teams playing. For the adult men, it's a hurling weekend.

Remember, all details are on our fixtures page, and keep an eye on social media in case of any late game changes.  Here's the ones I'm hoping to get to this weekend:

Senior Hurlers take on Naomh Barróg on PNU1 on Saturday, with throw in at 6pm.  I think Barróg are relatively newly promoted, so will have a point to prove.

For Sunday morning, I have to admit to being a little spoiled for choice.  The minor camogie team take on Lucan on PNU2 at 10:30 - this should be a cracker.  At 11:00 the U19 Footballers are away to Na Fianna.
The latter may have some baggage attached - I was at the U19 Hurling v Na Fianna last weekend; a truly epic battle that went down to the wire.  Our lads clinched it by one point: A 65 successfully converted deep into injury time.
Spoiled for choice indeed.

Newsletter details

This newsletter is sent to over 1000 recipients and is a great way to inform members of club happenings. If you want anything included in the newsletter, drop a mail to pro@stvincentsgaa.ie. Comments and feedback are welcome too.

And finally..

The overall tally for our recent charity walk has been totted up.  Once more we'd like to thank everyone who turned up, contributed or made a cake for our "Walk For Ukraine" charity event. The club raised over €9,500.  This money will be donated via Circle-K who will match our donation. This means the Irish red cross will receive almost €20,000 for their Ukraine relief fund. Well done all!
