Club Notes, 5th September 2022

Activity in all sections now, that's for sure.

Championship is ramping up seriously this week. Our Fixtures pages lists 15 championship fixtures down from now until the end of the week. Last weekend was hassled by poor conditions; it certainly wasn't spectator weather; I'm sure playing in it was no picnic either.
Mind you, it didn't dampen the spirits, and from what I can see we had everyone from first-time mini leaguers up to our seasoned GAA4MAS playing a blinder despite the rain.

There's plenty of games you can support this weekend, including 3 home Camogie championship encounters this Sunday, so take your pick and show up with your colours and let the players know you're there!

We welcome some newcomers to the mailing list; we took a few emails from parents of first time minileaguers last week.  Welcome folks! - please stick around for at least a few newsletters to get a feel for what's going on in the club.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook) for late updates.

If you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

*siren noise* WE HAVE A WINNER!
Congratulations to Mick Slattery who won the Lotto Jackpot of €8,000.

Lotto Draw 29 August 2022. Numbers drawn were
3, 5, 7, 21

Jackpot winner was Mick Slattery. Congratulations also to Helen Divilly who won the weekly prize of €100.  The lotto jackpot reverts to €1,000 starting next week.  Still, always worth a flutter.

Mini Leagues Return

What a morning for the return to mini leagues. There was driving rain, and I'm sure that kept some people away. In fairness, not the right conditions to introduce a new comer. Still had a great turnout, and we welcome back all our mini leaguers. I suspect we'll see a more new recruits in the coming weeks.
A big shout out to the U15/U16 boys in transition year who showed up to help out - Great to see you volunteering and giving back after all the work from your mentors over the years.

All-Stars back this Friday - and recruiting

This Friday will see the return of our All Stars. All Stars run from 5pm-6pm on Friday. This is a session for children with additional needs, and has proven to be a great success. The good news here is it's well stacked with volunteers, so there's a place for more new recruits. Please spread the word - If you know anyone in the area who has a child with additional needs, please let them know they would be welcome to come along. People considering bringing their children should drop a mail to allstars@stvincentsgaa.ie and we'll take it from there.

GAA4MAs - Playing a stormer in the Rain

Last Saturday saw our GAA4MAs take part in the national GAA4MAs blitz, held in Naomh Mearnog. Teams from 132 clubs took part in the event, which was also mired by the poor weather. I'm told it didn't dampen spirits and a great time was had by all. The craic extended to the club bar on Saturday night, where the GAA4MAs showed not only do they have the moves on the pitch, but also on the dance floor.

I asked around a couple of the GAA4MAs that I know for pictures of the craic in the bar and was met with an omerta.  One can only assume there's a "stays on tour" pact at play.  One way or another, I've only hearsay from the bar staff of a great night had.

The girls in GAA4MAs are on the hunt for new recruits.  If you'd like to come out and try your hand, have some craic getting fit in a team environment, drop a mail to Chizuru Ryan, who can help you make the next step.

Champo Watch

3 from 4 in the mens football section, is not too shabby; and we look forward to a brace of championship games this weekend.  Sunday could be a banging day in the club!
If I miss anything, please don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Mens Football
A surprisingly low turnout from both sides in Chanel to see the senior footballers take on Parnells on Saturday evening. Probably hampered by a combination of terrible rain all day, and a stack of folks gone to Electric Picnic; Some stalwarts were there of course, and I reckon St Vincents even outnumbered Parnells support.  A good convincing win here with the final score 4-15 to 2-5.  This now sees us into the SFC2 Quarter Final. We'll have to wait until September 18 for this game., when we'll be meeting St Pats, Donabate. Well done to all

The intermediate footballers also had a good win, overcoming St Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh by 0-17 to 0-11.
The Junior A team were unfortunately beaten by Round towers lusk (2-13 to 0-10), but the Junior B fared better, beaing Cuala by 1-17 to 1-11.
The U17 boys are in action this coming weekend: They travel to Marlay Park to take on Ballinteer St Johns. That game is on Saturday, 11th at 1:30pm.

Mens Hurling
It is a hurling weekend this weekend, so 4 adult teams due to be in Hurling action.  The marquee game is the senior hurlers meeting Kilmacud Crokes.  That's on Saturday, in Parnell park.  A reminder that this game will be ticketed, although the ticket link is not avilable at time of writing.  Keep an eye on social media for information on ticket availability.

Also this weekend, the Intermediate Hurlers travel to Monastery Road on Satuday evening (Throw in at 6pm) in their encounter with Round Towers, Clondalkin.
The Junior A hurlers have a home game; They're on PNU2 on Sunday morning (11:00 am) against Lucan Sarsfields, and the Junior B hurlers will have to wait another couple of weeks - their encounter with Scoil Ui Chonaill has already been conceded by Scoil.

Ladies Football
The minor ladies were in championship action this evening; The Minor A girls won well in Beann Eadair, and the Minor B girls suffered a defeat against Thomas Davis. This information is hot off the press, folks, so I don't have actual scores.
The two minor teams are again in action next Monday:
Minor A are away in Pairc Ui Murchu against Ballyboden St Enda (throw in 6:30pm, Monday 12th)
Minor B are at home against O'Dwyers (throw in 6:30 pm, Monday 12th)

Adult Camogie
We have a "Super Camogie Sunday" coming this weekend with 3 of our 5 Camogie teams at home.

It's rare that fixtures go this way and our members can concentrate their support, but this weekend is a go!
We begin by a big Championship game for the seniors when they take on St Judes.  That throws in at 10:30 on Sunday morning on PNU1

Following that game, both Intermediate camogie teams play at 12:30:
Inter 1 are on PNU1 against Ballyboden St Enda, and Inter 2 play on MIE when they take on Kilmacud Crokes.
And don't worry, I'm not forgetting the Junior Camogie team: they are fixed for 18 September, when they contest the Junior 5 Shield Final against Na Fianna.
Tomorrow (6th) sees the Minor Camogie team take on St Maurs at home (throw in at 7pm)

Juvenile Championships
First, let's look at how last weekend fared:
U15 Camogie team were beaten in their game against Naomh Maur (1-4 to 5-4)
U16 Camogie team had a convincing win over Erin's Isle (7-13 to 2-2)
U16 A Hurling got off to a good start with a 4 point win over St Judes (0-15 to 0-11)
U16 B Hurling suffered a 5 point defeat in a thrilling game against Scoil Ui Chonaill (3-10 to 2-08)
U17 Hurling got a dream start to their campaign, overcoming Fingallians on a score of 2-22 to 1-11.

And plenty more to look forward to this week:
U14 Ladies football start their division 3 championship this Satuday 10th, when they travel to Meadowvale to take on Cuala. (1:30pm)
U15 Ladies football begin their championship when they enter the Division 4 championship; They are away to Round Towers, Clondalkin. (Saturday, 10th 1:30pm)
Later that same say (Saturday 10th), the U16 ladies football team play their Divison 2 game, when they take on Ballinteer St John at home at 4:30pm.
It's a football weekend for the boys, just the U16s in Championship action:
U16A - Take on Clontarf on Saturday (10th) on Ard Scoil Rís pitch. Throw in is 3:30pm.
U16B travel to Lusk to take on Round Towers Lusk at the same time (3:30pm, Saturday 10th)

Thanks again to Carolanne Canning for running the club instagram for the last two weeks.  She hands over the reins to Jack Gannon, who hurls with the U19s, and also volunteers in the club bar.  I hope we'll get a glimpse of what volunteering in the bar entails! remember to give his posts or stories a like!
I've the next one or two takeovers lined up, but I'm hoping you're reading this thinking "I want to show what my team/section gets up to"'; If so, great.  Go fill in the form!
If you'd like to get on the list of people to take over Instagram, Fill in the form here.
This is open to all members of the club, young and old (but young folks will need parent's permission!).
