Your Club Update
September 4, 2019

5 is still alive!

Well, that wasn't in the script was it? Dublin v Kerry always brings something of interest but I'm not sure me heart wanted a finish like that last Sunday. There is such a thing as too much excitement! Anyway, the Dubs live to fight another day which means another club draw, so keep reading if you want to know more. Also: We're arranging a big Club Day on 29th September which you'll want to know all about.
If you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Cúl Community- All-Club Event: 29 September

We're having a big all-club event on Sunday 29th September (Facebook event). It consists of a sponsored Hurling, Football and Camogie relay around the parishes of Marino and Fairview, a BBQ, and entertainment. We hope everyone in the club will get behind this initiative. Full details on its aims are on a dedicated page on the club website. We look forward to a great day.
There's some costs associated with running this day. If your company has a sponsorship or corporate and social responsibility fund, perhaps you could consider a modest sponsorship? Get in touch if you can.

Mini leagues are back on September 7 at 10:30 am.  Here's what you need to know:

  • Children are accepted as long as they have started school, and is for children born up to 2012 (older children can join U8, U9s etc).
  • There's a one-off registration fee of €20, and each child gets a hurley, complete with grip to keep.
  • It runs Saturday 10:30 to 12:00, with another mid-week stint on Wednesday 6-7pm
  • Weekly subs are €2 per child.

All Ireland Final Replay Ticket Draw Details

I know how important it is to get tickets for the replay, so I've sent a separate message about this. There's a full statement on the club website. The one question we're getting asked a lot is about children or family tickets. Sorry folks. The media were quick to jump on this. €10 tickets were really for holders of juvenile season ticket holders only. We have been informed by the county board that no family tickets will be made available through clubs.

History In the Making

Remember this photo folks. This is the first ever ladies football team from St Vincents to play at minor level, taken just before their first ever championship game. Which....they won in style beating Raheny 6:07 to 2:10. Congratulations girls! Well done from all the club.

Louise Lynch Bursary - We look forward to the award evening

Saturday evening sees the awarding of the inaugral Louise Lynch Memorial Bursary. This will be an event in the bar at 7:30pm. The Senior 1 Camogie team will be in action at 5pm at home against Na Fianna, so it's an ideal chance to catch a top-class Camogie game, followed by a social get-together in the club afterwards. This is a fantastic award which will make a real differnce to one of our members as they embark on their academic career. We're aware that a number of the Camogie teams are making an evening of this, and it should prove to be a big night at the club. Entertainment will be provided by "Retro" and this promises to be a night not to be missed.

Upcoming fixtures

Summer is a mere distant memory already; there's a lot of games down for the weekned. Here's a few to look out for, and of course, you can see the full list of games on our fixtures page.
Juvenile:
Friday evening at 6:30pm on PNU2 sees our U14 girls take on St Brigids.  Both U16 Hurling Squads are in Championship action on Saturday: The A team are on at 3:30pm on PNU1 against St Judes, while the B team take an almost mirror trip to play Faughs out on Tymon North. That's also on at 3:30pm
Adult:
A coupe of ones to watch this week. The Senior 1 Camogie team are on PNU1 against Na Fianna at 5pm on Saturday (facebook event). They played two thrillers last year - a championship loss to a goal in the final minute, and a league final where we came from behind to win the game. So this is lined up to be a big clash.
If it is hurling you're after, the Intermediate hurlers are in action just up the road in Chanel against Parnells at 6pm on Saturday. The senior hurlers return to the 'nell to play Naomh Fionbarra at 2:30 pm on Sunday in the Senior A Hurling Championship.(Facebook event) Let's get out and give a big support to that one.
All 3 Minor Football squads open their championship campaigns this Sunday. See the fixtures page for details.

And finally..

The eve of the All-Ireland final saw a re-union of the team of '94 who won a Dublin Minor football  championship. Rumour has it the Johnny McConnell holding the cup looks so happy because back then, he invested in a new product that is now paying dividends.
