Club Notes, 4 August 2021

The year trundles on apace

A quiet week this week.  Probably quietened by my out of office autoreply, but it also looks like a few age groups had a short break. Senior Camogie contest a cup semi final this weekend, so if you're around, you could lend your support.
As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

Regular readers will know that we don't hold lotto on bank holidays, so there was no lotto last weekend. Back to our usual schedule.  Next week's lotto jackpot sits at €2,500.

Introducing: The St Vincents All Stars

The club is in the process of developing organised gaelic games training for children with additional needs. We are at early stages of planning, and the programme will be designed around the needs of the participants.
Parents: Have you a child who would like to join? Drop us a note at allstars@stvincentsgaa.ie. Mentors will be trained, and garda vetted and you'll be fully consulted to help us design a programme that meets your childs' needs.
For those who'd like to lend a hand, or offer professional advice, please get in touch too - We are also recruiting volunteers to help set up, run and monitor the sessions. Training will be given.
Local businesses: We're looking for sponsorship to fund equipment purchase; if you'd like to be associated with this initiative in your business drop us a note and we can talk about options!

Senior Roundup

Last week was a hurling week and our senior hurlers suffered a 2 point defeat against Craobh Chiarain (2-13 to 1-14) last Wednesday evening. Next round is against Brigid's on the 14th.  I'll remind you all next week.
Last Sunday saw the senior camogie team team take a convincing (0-05 to 1-11) win over Faughs/Celtic so we're now in a league play off.  The girls take on Kilmacud Crokes at home on Sunday morning at 10:30 am in the league semi-final. (Facebook event here)

Summer Sessions - Well Done All

Congratulations to club games promotion officer, Emma Byrne and her army of mentors on another successful summer skill sessions.  We had over 400 participants across all ages groups to U16. Well done to all in the juvenile sections.

Juvenile Mentors: Good offer on Learning Plans from Dublin GAA

Dublin GAA have an offer for lesson plans at the moment.  From their website:
"A series of sample lesson plans appropriate for players from 7 to 18 years of age both in football and hurling. These lessons include such activities as warm ups skill drills and game based training recommended for each specific age. Each lesson plan focuses on a particular skill and develops that skill through-out the session. The lessons are fully illustrated to help coaches understand the activities."
Each lesson plan has 12 lessons and both can be purchased for €15.  To learn more, head over to the Dublin GAA Coaching page.

Camogie Manager Required - Junior 3

As a member of the exec, I regularly find myself in the club carpark where a conversation begins "do you know what you should do ?" and I'm biting my lip knowing the obvious answer is "recruit more volunteers?". So here's your chance. The Junior 3 camogie team are in need of a manager. They're a great bunch of girls who just want to get out and train and compete. Why can't it be you? I tell you what, I'll even give you your list of reasons why it cannot:
  • I've only ever trained footballers
  • I've never trained girls
  • I've never trained any team
  • What do I know about Camogie?
  • I don't know how to use whatsapp.
  • I don't know if I have the time.
Now, let me explain why you should do it. If you've trained a team before, you already have transferrable skills; juvenile versus adult, boys versus girls, football versus camogie. The ability to organise and motivate is something you already know.
If you've never taken a team - Help is at hand. We'll work with you to bring you up speed.
The time commitment tends to be 2 training sessions, and a game at the weekend. You might just find that the time is there, you just don't realise it.
Now think of the rewards. You get to ensure that a full team of girls get to continue to do the thing they love. You'll share the ups and downs with a whole new group of players and parents and you'll be contributing to your club and your community in a way that cannot be quantified.
Think you can help? Drop a mail to the adult camogie director, Clodagh Carroll.

Wanna get behind Pedro?

I received a message from my predecessor, Pedro Smyth. Of course, you all know Pedro. He sent in this:
"My nephew’s son Bobby has Autism. Our family and friends have got together to raise €15k to create a sensory garden for Bobby at their home in Finglas. For my part I’m doing 500k Walk/Hike/Swim in 28 days from Monday last.
Fair play Pedro, that's no small undertaking.
If you would like to show your support for Pedro, you can donate at this gofundme page.
