Club Notes, 3rd March 2021

Coming up on a year...

Seems like when Leo made his big announcment from the White House, we all thought we were headed to a "work from home" scenario for a few weeks. Boy, were we wrong. It's coming up on a year since all this started, and all we can wish for is a steady roll-out of a vaccine, and a swift return to play. Some glimmers of hope in the form of hearing of family members getting their appointments for the vaccine, as well as some folks back attending school.  It's something. Hang in there folks. We're still in this together. It's tough though.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook); should anything change we'll try to keep you posted.
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

International Womens Day - 8th March

International womens day falls on 8th March.  This is next Monday.  A number of organisations will mark the event. Here's a couple that may be of interest to our members:
1. Sport Ireland are running a "Women in Sport Leadership Webinar" which runs from 1pm to 2pm. They state:
"We encourage CEOs, Coordinators, Board Members, Senior Leaders/Management, Women in Sport Leads and all Sport Sector employees/volunteers with an interest in leadership and gender equality in sport to attend. Men are most definitely welcome to attend.

This webinar will further explore the topic of women in leadership covering everything from leading in an organisation, to mentoring, to inspiring others to lead. The theme of International Women’s Day 2021 is ‘Choose to Challenge’. We will hear from the leaders mentioned below on whether this is a relevant theme in their work or if they think sport has turned a corner when it comes to gender equality."
It has a first class line up, and is MC'd by Joanne Cantwell.  Registration is free over at eventbrite, with full details on the event there too.

2. Orreco, the leading sports science company from Galway are running 4 events catered to the female athlete. It starts with a pilates class live on instagram (8:30am), a live podcast at 12pm with WNBA Star Sue Bird & Dr Georgie Bruinvels, a live webinar with 3 female olympians at 5pm, ending with a cook-along with British 800m runner Adele Tracey at 7:30pm.  How can you find out about these? I recommend you follow FitrWoman on Twitter.

Fund Raiser in Memory of Tony Doyle

Many of you will remember Tony Doyle who sadly passed in late 2019. He was a lifelong Vincents man, and had at one stage run the club bar. I remember all of the tributes that came in when we announced his passing. Whilst the family would have loved to have a fitting GAA tribute to Tony, the lockdown restrictions mean that this cannot happen. Instead, members of the family are walking 3k each day thoughout March. A great idea given the restrictions, and the fact that Tony loved his daily walks.  They are raising money for the Beaumont Hospital Foundation.  If you'd like to contribute you can do so at their iDonate page.

#FitnessFebruary Comes to an end. And the winners are...

Well done to all the juveniles who took part in #FitnessFebruary, and to the parents/guardians who diligently filled out the forms every Sunday. In total our young members covered 20,130 kilometers, did over 3,000 practise sessions and made good food choices over 4,800 times. Amazing work.
The team who racked up the most points were the U12 girls, in second place was the U10 boys, followed closely by the U10 girls in third, with the U8 girls coming in 4th place. Congratulations all.

Club Grounds Remain Closed

We've put out a number of messages to state that the club grounds are closed, and pitches are unavailable for use, be that even for individual traiing. Whilst the vast majority of members have respected this, a number of people have continued to use the pitches. If you're reading this and thinking
'they don't mean me'
'what harm can I be doing on my own?'
'it's just 20 minutes'
'I'm only doing a light run'
'Sure where else can the dogs have a run around?'

Please, think again. Our grounds remain closed and do so for a number of reasons including government and GAA directives. If you flout this request, think of the message you are sending to all those who have remained respectful to the current situation we find ourselves in.

Also please note that this message also refers to the MIE and Ard Scoil facility; We have had a number of complaints from MIE that their pitches are being used by St Vincents members, and some recent usage of Ard Scoil's pitch too.

And finally..

Last weekend was GAA congress 2021, held completely online via Teams. Lots of motions passed including a trial of a sin bin for cynical play in hurling. As usual, not everyone thought all motions are a good idea.
