At this stage, I think all teams have started back training. Maybe a few stragglers, but life appears to be back at full swing in the club. PNU1 needs a bit of minding- heavy rainfalls can be very tough on the grass pitches; so check your email or socials a few hours before you're training on it - Cancellations can happen at short notice. |

Recovening of the 2023 AGM | Many thanks to our membership for their continued patience on the reconvening of the AGM, which will now take place on March 26th. I sent around a notice yesterday, but here it is again just in case: "One of the key agenda items at this year's AGM was the appointment of a new executive committee, allowing the current committee to step down after completing their two-year tenure. On the date of the AGM, November 23, 2023, no new committee had come forward, leading to the decision to adjourn the meeting to January 19th. However, for operational reasons, this had to be further adjourned to January 26th. During this interim period, both the Trustees of the club and the current executive have been working to identify new possible candidates for roles on the committee. Some positive results have emerged from this effort, and we hope to nominate a new executive in the very near future. The club trustees have asked the current executive to remain in place during this interim period, providing new candidates with the time to form a team and fill all the roles. The current executive has agreed to this request, resulting in one further adjournment to the AGM. The reconvened AGM will now take place on March 26, 2024, at which point we expect to present a team for election. In the meantime, if anyone wishes to consider themselves for a role on this new executive, they can contact the club secretary (secretary.stvincents.dublin@gaa.ie) or any member of the current executive to discuss the roles and responsibilities." |

The Gaelic for Mothers and Others are in dire need of a coach. They train for just 1 hour on a Monday evening, and then take part in periodic blitzes throughout the year. All they need is someone to take the session and put a bit of shape on it. Any takers? |
Yes. 1974 was the year that Dublin broke a big football drought and won Sam Maguire. The team was managed by Kevin Heffernan and the starting panel had Jimmy Keaveney (highest scoring player that championship), Tony Hanahoe, Bobby Doyle, Brian Mullins and Gay O'Driscoll. Centre-back and 70s Committee member Alan Larkin was in touch to let us know of a charity luncheon to commemorate this big win. The event will take place in Croke Park in the Hogan Stand Suite on Friday 19th April. A table of 10 costs €1,250 and proceeds from the event will be donated to local charities. The event will include a full three course luncheon with entertainment, guest speakers, panel discussion, Q&A, raffle and, of course, the telling and recalling of so many great stories and memories. Perhaps there's a corporate donor who'd like to stump up for a club table? Perhaps there are some individuals who'd be interested in attending. If you'd like more information get in touch - and we'll try to orgnaise something. |

Two Surveys - That shouldn't take up too much of your time |
From time to time we get approached by students who are working on a thesis and need help with their research. Would you believe that recruiting survey participants tends to be one of the most difficult things for these students ? Despite it being quick and easy, most people just jump past. So, please - this one time. Can you take a look? The first one is from one of our own, Rachel Jevens. Rachel is studying Psychology in DCU. Rachel writes: "I am conducting a research project to examine the relationship between volunteering in a sporting context and both subjective and psychological wellbeing. I also wish to examine the relationship between sport volunteering and the volunteer’s sense of community." You can take the survey here . Rachel notes that the survey is aimed at volunteers and non-volunteers who are aged between 18 and 65. G'wan fill it in. I did! The second one came in from Sean Butterly, who is a final year student, aslo studying Psychology; he's in Trinity. His final year project deals with investigating gambling behaviour in the LGFA, GAA and Camogie Association athletes. This survey can be taken here . Thank you! |

Well, this looks like something different. Actually, I can not do this justice; so here's the details as was sent to me: "My name is Nóra Ní Anluain Fay, Artistic Director of NAF Dance. I'm thrilled to say that my piece 'Ham Sandwiches and Discipline,' will be at Scene and Heard Festival this February in Smock Alley Theatre.
A theatrical contemporary dance duet about the world of the GAA, traditional Irish sports and all its raw theatricality. 30 jerseys drying on the line, muddy stud boots, vexed commentators, sideline screaming and ritualistic trips to matches. Our understanding of what it means to be Irish is ever changing through the global lens so how we connect with the country is ever shifting. The GAA highlights this idea of tradition and change together encapsulated in a beacon of Irish history. Culminating in a hive of Irishness injected with camp and comedy. It was first developed in Uillinn Arts Centre as I was the dance artist in residence there for two weeks in July 2023. I collaborated with the local GAA club O'Donovan Rossa, the Junior Ladies team in particular, to push the work forward. At the end of our time there we had a showing as part of Skibbereen Arts Festival with the result of this collaboration. In August we spent two more weeks progressing it on residency in Galway Dance, with a final week in Dance Ireland in November. It'll also be going to the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris in April." |
