Club Notes, 30 June 2021

That's some evening out there.

I hope many of you are enjoying the cracking weather. I'd say training is much better craic when the sun is baitin' down.
Interesting development on Intercounty this weekend, more on that below. I've news of club gear ordering day this weekend and an interesting opportunity for some of the boys.
As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Ladies Football Mentor? Free mentor course coming up.

Last chance: Club Mentor Rules workshop on 8th July.
Coincidentally, I've heard anecdotally that they're getting strict on shouting in the ladies game. I heard of a couple of cards doled out last weekend. Perhaps you'd hear more if you went along - do report back if you do!
The provincial board for ladies football have an upcoming workshop on club mentor rules. The course is free to take part and will last 70-90 minutes. This tweet has he announcement. Sign up at this link.

All the single laddies, all the single laddies

Right lads, who fancies a date with a difference? From the department of what-could-possibly-go-wrong, I give you:

"Alleycats TV are producing a dating show for RTE and we are looking for single men in Dublin (21 - 27) who might be interested in going on a date with one of our 'celeb' girls."

This does indeed sound like great craic for the right guy, but the fact that the production company themselves put the quotes around celeb does raise a question mark. I can only guess it's less Beyoncé Knowles and more Barbara-in-reception-who-has-2000-tiktok-followers.

Gwan lads I dare ya. If you get on, make sure you tell everyone about your on-pitch prowess for Vinnies.

Backroom openings on Senior and Intermediate teams

Both the Senior football and Intermediate football teams were on to ask about filling open positions; They are both looking for someone to handle logistics and equipment. This role involves managing all equipment (cones, balls, kit etc.) , set up and tear-down of training set ups, and logistic support for game day.
This is a key role, and involves working with, and learning from, experienced football managers. It's a unique opportunity to get in and provide much-needed support, and become a member of the backroom team.  Maybe your playing days are behind you, maybe your managing days are ahead of you and you'd like to see how things operate from the sideline.
If this interests you, drop me a mail, and I'll get you hooked up.

Senior Games this Weekend

It's a hurling weekend; Our hurlers take on Naomh Barróg in the Go Ahead Adult Hurling League Division One North, from now on known as the GAAHLDON, which admittedly is less of a mouthful. Anyway. The Gaahldon game is on Pairc Barróg at 6:30pm on Friday.  No news on how Barróg are managing their numbers.

The senior Camogie team are away to Naomh Jude on Sunday morning at 10:30.  Our girls are back from  taking instagrams of cocktails and visiting popup restaurants a bye week, so should be well refreshed. Judes were the ones that took the crown from us last year. There's a point to prove this weekend. Go get them girls!

Of course, both teams are without their Intercounty players, but one assumes the opposition are in similar boats.

Speaking of Inter-county..

The Leinster Council announced this week that the Leinster Senior Inter County Hurling Championship semi finals would allow 8,000 spectators this weekend.  This is a double-header: Dublin play Galway at 2pm, while Kilkenny take on Wexford at 4:15.  We got links out to those who registered interest this week. I've hear of a couple who got a ticket, and others who were disappointed.  All we can do is to hope that Rian, Conor, Keith, John and the rest of the squad do the business so our hurling faithful get a another bite of the cherry, with a tasty Leinster Final beckoning.  Best of luck lads!

And finally..

Last Sunday, the Under 8s were leaving as I was helping set up MIE for an U15 game.  Sat right in the middle of the pitch, deep in chat were these two adorable "rivals",  I asked their dads if it was ok to snap them. They explained that the two girls went to kindergarten together, and hadn't seen each other in years. Now, they're going to to be competitors every time Vins play Raheny; they'd already left the rivalry behind, and everyone was delighted to see the girls drawn back together, through GAA.

And that, as they say. Is what it is all about.
