Your Club Update
October 30, 2019

Happy Hollowe'en from the home of the Dublin Camogie Champions!

Super, convincing win for the Senior 1 Camogie team at the weekend.  Once again we're county champions, and a trip to Leinster is on the cards. Lots of other stuff to cover this week too.
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Champee ohh nays, Champee ohh nays

The Senior Camogie Team won the Senior 1 Camogie Championship with an emphatic 4-11 to 2-05 win over St Judes in what was a cracking game last Sunday in the GAA National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown. Conditions were perfect - weather was right, Abbostown is a wonderful surface and our team treated the spectators to an enthralling game.  But don't take my word for it. You can read DublinGaa.ie's account referring to "Marino maestro Aisling Maher" and "powerful Niamh Hetherton" who was "too hot for the Jude's defence to handle", or WeAreDublin's report which said "In the end the difference between the two sides was Vincents ability to clinically take their scoring opportunities."
There was a great turnout for the game. For photos of the game, check out the album on Facebook take by our own Grainne McKinney.  Congratulations to the team and management. You've made us all proud.
I snapped a couple of shots myself.  Here's my two favourites

This week's Lotto

No lotto this week on account of the bank holiday. So, we'll be back next week.  That gives you a couple more days on getting an entry in for a tasty €5,500.  Five and half Gs baby.  That'd be Christmas sorted, and some. You can enter online here

Annual General Meeting

At the risk of sounding repetitive, I'm going to keep mentioning the AGM until it happens. So..
The AGM has been set for Thursday 28th November 2019. Motions for inclusion in the meeting need to be submitted in writing by 8th November to the Club Office, St Vincent’s GAA, Malahide Rd., Marino, Dublin 3 or office@stvincentsgaa.ie.The official notice of the AGM can be read here.

Calling U16 Girls: Gaelic Voices for Change Youth Workshop

The Gaelic Players Association are running a "Gaelic Voices for Change Youth Workshop". We're looking for U16 players to represent St Vincents at this 1/2 day workshop on the morning of the 16th November.  We've had two of the U16 lads sign up, and would love to have a U16 ladies footballer or camogie player to represent too. The players will join Eamon Fennell, Senior Team player and former Dublin Senior player for a workshop  focused on online safety. If you're the parent of an U16 player who'd be willing to get involved, or you're an U16 mentor, drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie for full information. Parents of attendees can attend too.

Free Seminar for Juvenile Coaches from Leinster Council

Turas is an initiative from the Leinster Council aimed at helping coaches develop players, particularly at juvenile level. In their own words: "The main aim of Turas is to provide club, school and talent and academy coaches with regular and meaningful coach development opportunities". They are running two seminars on November 16th in the National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown; one is aimed at coaches who train 4-11 year olds and the other is aimed at coaches who train 11-17 year olds. There is no fee to attend, and the seminars are just half day.  Full details can be found on the Leinster Council website.

4 Comedians, 1 Night. For a tenner!

Phasing out of Bar Smartcards

The club's till systems have recently been upgraded and do not support a smart card system.  In addition, the software license to support the smart card system outweighs any benefit to the club. This along with the rise of contactless card use means our smart card system is no longer economically viable.  As a result, the executive have agreed to phase out our smart card system.  This mean that with immediate efffect:
  • No smart card topups will be accepted
  • All balances must be spent by the end of the calendar year (31/12/2019)
The bar has absorbed recent wholesale increases from Heineken and Diageo to counteract the discount previously enjoyed by smart card users.

Well Done, Marathon Men (And Woman)!

Shout out to Paul Stephens, Fergal McCourt and John Hopkins who completed not 1, not 2 but 3 Marathons (Chicago, Berlin and Dublin) in the last month. Well done lads. Take a break now you deserve it.
Also: Well done to Jillian Bolger, U9 mentor and mother to U13 player who completed the Dublin marathon just 2 weeks after a sprained ankle.

Road Trip!

Right, we've two Leinster trips to consider now. Due to winning the Junior B Dublin title, the Junior Hurlers have entered the Junior B All-Ireland Championship. First game is the Leinster Junior B Quarter final to be held this Satuday at 2pm away to  O'Loughlin Gaels of Kilkenny (Facebook Event here).
Meanwhile, the Senior Camogie win in Dublin gets us straight into the Leinster Senior Camogie Final to be held on Sunday November 17th.  The time and venue have yet to be confirmed, but I'll keep you posted.
Away, out of county trips are the best! If you an make it this Saturday, O'Loughlin Gaels ground is just 1.5 hours away. That's an easy day trip to show your support.
