A win and a loss. Ho hum.
Your Club Update
January 29, 2020

The ups and downs of sporting life

Last weekend was a lesson in what being a supporter is all about.  It had highs and lows. Look: getting an away trip in January is luxury not many can boast, and we had two. I'll give both teams their credit later in this newsletter.
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

This week's Lotto

Those two games

Sunday was a rare ocurrance - two of our teams in All-Ireland Semi Final clashes at exactly the same time. Our Senior A Camogie team were in Nenagh, whilst our Junior Hurlers were a short trip away in Kileedy, GAA Limerick. Being what is was, it meant supporters couldn't be in two places at once. I opted to head to Nenagh to watch the Camogie, but was kept up to date on the action in Limerick thanks to the wonders of Whatsapp (thanks Hugh!).
Our day had a great start. Our sponsors Bank of Ireland arranged a pre-game welcome in their branch in Nenagh. We extend our thanks of Tom Moran, branch manager in Fairview, and to the team in Nenagh who came in on their day off to welcome us. Good food, goodie bags for the kids, and a warm cup of tea too.

Unfortunately, the game didn't go our way, and Sarsfields of Limerick were victorious on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-08. If want to read a game report, Dublin Camogie have one here. Our own Grainne McKinney was at the game and has posted some great photos to facebook. Special shout out to the juvenile camogie girls who chanted their hearts out for the entire game.
Defeats are hard. But look, it was only mere weeks ago that we were celebrating winning Leinster for the first time in over 20 years and we shouldn't lose sight of this achievement. Our senior Camogie team are young and hungry, and I've no doubt they'll take us back on the road this time next year. Thanks for the journey girls. Good luck for the new season!

And so to Limerick.A recap: Our Junior Hurlers won Junior B in Dublin, and so entered the Junior B All-Ireland competiiton hosted each year by Killeedy GAA of Limerick. The semi-final was against Drom and Inch of Tipperary who many fancied for the whole competiion. That, however wasn't in our script and we got off to a blistering start, scoring 1-7 to 0-02 in the opening quarter. To their credit Drom/Inch got back into the game, but their resurgance was a little late, and we ended up victorious on a score of 1-16 to 1-19. There's a great report here, but if you're too lazy to read it suffice to say it refers to "Séan Lambe outstanding", "ace freetaker Shane Kiernan" not to mention "St Vincent’s exploded into devastating life. Gary O’Meara drilled over two points". You get the picture. For some great photos check out the ones taken by user "wildatlanticimagesaok" on Facebook.
The Junior Hurlers are now in an All-Ireland final, and we'll run a supporters bus down. This is on Saturday 8th February. Do come along. It's a great welcome, and the hurling is mighty too.

ArdScoil do it again

Hot on the success of the Hurling, ArdScoil Rís faced their same opponents, Maynooth in the Dublin Colleges Senior A Football final today. A win by 4 points mean that they've done the Dublin Hurling and Football Double.  Fair play lads - keep some energy for the Vins pitches.

Operation Transformation walks continue. Now, who's up for a bit of Zumba?

We're maintaing great numbers on our operation transformation walks. They continue every Monday and Wednesday nights. Remember:
  • Meet at the club at 7:15
  • OPTIONAL Weigh ins each Monday before the walk
  • No charge - just show up and join in
  • Bring your friends, this isn't just for members; all are welcome.
So, now that many of you have the buzz, how about a bit of Zumba? Deborah McMorrow, who runs Zumba classes weekly in the club is running a free class for all Operation Transformation walkers (and anyone else who fancies a go!) this Saturday at 1pm in the club hall. Here's sneak preview.
Oh, and on Monday there'll be free tea and coffee to heat you up after the walk. Hope to see you there.

New membership system in place

The club are using a new system for both membership management and communications for this year. The system is provided by ClubZap. This includes a mobile app which can be used by everyone to manage their membership, and recieve information on individual teams, etc. The ClubZap app is available for iPhone in the App store or Android in the Google Play Store. Hopefully, you'll have received a renewal link from Club Zap.

2020 Memberships are now open for renewal

Membership renewal has been opened up and you can pay your membership online through ClubZap. Pricing and payment page available here. If you've already paid, we thank you for your prompt response.

Updates on Anti-Social Behaviour

Last week we mentioned about some anti-social behaviour around the club. Since then we've received word from the county board that a number of thefts have ocurred from GAA Clubs in recent weeks. There's reports of Mearnog, Barrog and Colmcille's having cars broken into during training sessions. As always, we diligent and aware, and report any incidents to local Gardaí. Our local station is Clontarf who can be reached at 01-666 4800.
Gardaí have increased their patrols and are swinging by the club, so hopefully this will deter future offenders.

So you'd like to do a bit of hurling would ya?

The success of our Junior Hurlers, along with a growing panel of players means we're considering running two Junior Hurling teams for 2020. What do you think? Could you be persuaded? Maybe you stopped playing some time back, but fancy playing again. If you're interested, or you know someone who may be, let us know and we'll put you in touch with the relevant management.

This Weekend's Fixtures

One game down this week. Don't ask me why, but the U15s start their campaign already. Sunday at 11:30 am, they take on Ballymun Kickhams in Div 3 of the football league in Popintree Park. Best of luck with it boys.
