Club Notes, 28 July 2021

Greetings, from Co. Wexford

I'm enjoying a staycation just near the Castletown Liam Mellows Club in Co. Wexford. My staycation place suffers from a poor cellular reception, so woe is me, I wrote this from the beer garden of the local nearby hotdesk facility, with Tara Hill as my view.
We have news of a new initiative for children with additional needs, a historic win for the minor ladies, and much more to cover this week.
As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

Lotto Draw Monday 26th July 2021.  Jackpot was €2,350. Numbers drawn were

22, 18, 3, 12

There was no jackpot winner and the weekly winner was Brian Giblen. Next week's lotto Jackpot is €2,500.  That's got a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

Introducing: The St Vincents All Stars

The club is in the process of developing organised gaelic games training for children with additional needs. We are at early stages of planning, and the programme will be designed around the needs of the participants.
Parents: Have you a child who would like to join? Drop us a note at allstars@stvincentsgaa.ie. Mentors will be trained, and garda vetted and you'll be fully consulted to help us design a programme that meets your childs' needs.
For those who'd like to lend a hand, or offer professional advice, please get in touch too - We are also recruiting volunteers to help set up, run and monitor the sessions. Training will be given.
Local businesses: We're looking for sponsorship to fund equipment purchase; if you'd like to be associated with this initiative in your business drop us a note and we can talk about options!

Camogie Manager Required - Junior 3

As a member of the exec, I regularly find myself in the club carpark where a conversation begins "do you know what you should do ?" and I'm biting my lip knowing the obvious answer is "recruit more volunteers?". So here's your chance. The Junior 3 camogie team are in need of a manager. They're a great bunch of girls who just want to get out and train and compete. Why can't it be you? I tell you what, I'll even give you your list of reasons why it cannot:
  • I've only ever trained footballers
  • I've never trained girls
  • I've never trained any team
  • What do I know about Camogie?
  • I don't know how to use whatsapp.
  • I don't know if I have the time.
Now, let me explain why you should do it. If you've trained a team before, you already have transferrable skills; juvenile versus adult, boys versus girls, football versus camogie. The ability to organise and motivate is something you already know.
If you've never taken a team - Help is at hand. We'll work with you to bring you up speed.
The time commitment tends to be 2 training sessions, and a game at the weekend. You might just find that the time is there, you just don't realise it.
Now think of the rewards. You get to ensure that a full team of girls get to continue to do the thing they love. You'll share the ups and downs with a whole new group of players and parents and you'll be contributing to your club and your community in a way that cannot be quantified.
Think you can help? Drop a mail to the adult camogie director, Clodagh Carroll.

Wanna get behind Pedro?

I received a message from my predecessor, Pedro Smyth. Of course, you all know Pedro. He sent in this:
"My nephew’s son Bobby has Autism. Our family and friends have got together to raise €15k to create a sensory garden for Bobby at their home in Finglas. For my part I’m doing 500k Walk/Hike/Swim in 28 days from Monday last.
Fair play Pedro, that's no small undertaking.
If you would like to show your support for Pedro, you can donate at this gofundme page.

Congratulations Minor Girls!

Congratulations to the minor girls football team who won the Division 2 league. The decider was a final played against Fingallians. Full time wasn't enough to separate the teams, so the game went to extra time, with Vins coming out victorious on a scoreline of 4-15 to 5-09. The girls achieved 2 club firsts on this evening: 1st league win for ladies football, and now due to promotion they will contest division 1 ladies football championship this autumn. Great achievements! Well done girls
Juvenile Ladies Football Director, Niamh Adamson was on to say "Well done to all of the girls, for their commitment during the league campaign, and for their 'never say die' attitude during the game.  They were outstanding for the entire game."
Woop Woop! (that last bit was my own)

And finally..

The name Lambe has a very long history with St Vincents. I think you'd be hard to find a club member who hasn't played with, or being coached by a member of the Lambe family. I'm sure Da Lambe was beaming with pride to see no less that 4 of his grand-daughters lining out for that successful minor ladies team this week. Congratulations to Megan, Ava, Aoife and Tessa and the rest of your team
