Club Notes, 27th July 2022

Right, from here on in, we focus on the club championships

It feels kinda strange that July isn't over, but the inter-county seasons are just about done.  And, from a Dublin perspective, we're all done. The LGFA final takes place this weekend (Kerry v Meath), and the Camogie final is slated for next weekend (7th August) when Kilkenny will meet Cork.
One the plus side, we can all put eyes back firmly on the club championships.  Hurling is well underway, and the football starts next weekend. Camogie is still a couple of weeks out.  We've been knocked out of the ladies football championship, but there's still a shield to be played.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

1, 4, 11, 13
There was no jackpot winner.  Weekly winner of €100 was Helen Divilly

Bank holiday coming up. Who's sticking around?

Who's sticking around this Bank Holiday Weekend? For those of you who are, we're having a social evening in the club bar, this Friday 29th July. The night will consist of a pub quiz, some light bites and music afterwards. There is no cover charge, but we recommend you book a table. Bookings are available at this link.

Safety First!

The GAA have issued a reminder around safety - particularly about the use of mouthguards and helmets. St Vincents follows all guidelines laid down by the GAA, LGFA and Camogia Association. We've put these up on a dedicated page on the club website. We encourage all players, mentors and parents/guardians to have a read.

Champo Watch

Ok.  Here goes.  From here on in, I'll try my best to keep track of all championship action.  If I miss anything, please don't hesitate to drop me a line.  Champo watch involves collating information from a number of sources, so there can be the odd mistake made!
Adult Hurling
Last Saturday saw the Senior Hurlers draw with St Brigids in the group stages of the Senior Hurling Championship (2-16 to 1-19). We beat them in the league by a single point, so they were always going to provide a challenge.  3 points from 2 games is not a bad start! Next game is Satruday, 13 August against Craobh Chiarain in Parnell Park. Throw in is at 3:45pm.
The Intermediate Hurlers had a bye last weekend; they look forward to their next game against St Brigids on 13 August.
The Junior A Hurlers suffered a 3-16 to 2-9 defeat to St Patrick's Palmerstown; Their next game is on 14 August v Realt Dearg.
The Junior B Hurlers were successful over Wild Geese (1-15 to 0-13); They'll next meet Castleknock on 14th August

Ladies Football
The ladies footballers bowed out of their championship via a defeat to St Sylvesters (3-7 to 3-11). This evening (27th July) sees them in shield action; They'll take on Whitehall Colmcille at 7:30pm at home.
Your support is welcome!

Adult Football
Next weekend sees the start of the Football championships.
Our Senior Footballers open their Senior 2 Championship game against St Mary's Saggart. This game is at home on Saturday 6th of August at 6:30pm.

At the same date and time,(6th August, 6:30pm) the Intermediate Footballers meet Skerries Harps.
The following day, 7th August sees our Junior A Footballers take on St Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh (11:00 am), away in Martin Savage Park.
Later that day, 7th August, 3pm, the Junior B Footballers open their campaign when they meet Round Towers, Clondalkin at home on PNU.

Juvenile Championships are still a few weeks off, but rest assured we'll track them once they are up and running

Inter-county shout outs

Did I say that the inter county seasons are over? Still a few appearances for our U16 lads. Hard luck to Leo Sweeney, Sean Keogh and Ciaran O'Connor who lined out for Dublin in the semi final of the Buncrana Cup v Tyrone. Unfortunately, they were defeated by 2 points. Also, congratulations to Cillian O'Grady who featured for Dublin in the Ted Webb cup. This game ended in a draw v Laois.

Volunteers Day

I think I'll keep this one in the club notes, right up to the actual day (and here's hoping for a report on the great work afterwards too!)
Come down to the club to join our "volunteer day" on August 20. This is a morning were we get as many people down to the club to tackle small jobs around the place.  We'll do minor repairs, cleaning, painting and generally make the place look a little better.  Members of all ages are welcome to come down; we'll find a job for everyone.  If you have a particular skill, or work somewhere where the business may be able to donate materials, etc. please get in touch.

Use of Litter Bins

A reminder of bin use:
There are 3 types of bins for use in the club:
General Waste (Blue)
Recycling (Orange)
Compostable Waste (Brown)

Speaking of volunteer jobs we could do without. Due to some mis-use of each category, there's been a need to have our waste manually sorted before lifting in recent weeks. There's enough for people to be doing wihtout having to re-sort waste! Please note that mis-use of bins can result in higher bin charges for the club. We'll add some signage and guidelines in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, your diligence on this is appreciated.

Footballers' Supporters' Draw Results

Lost!

One of our hurlers was in touch to say he's missing a gold chain, with a wedding band attached which he lost on PNU1 or the car park. If you've found it, please get in touch.

And finally..

I've seen U16 player Ryan Murphy produce many a display of skill on a hurling field since a very young age. Last weekend saw him line out for Dublin when they took on a Scotland U16 team for a game of Shinty.

I hear the result didn't go our way (5-09 to 3-03), but not a bad result for a game you've never played.  Well done Ryan and the U16 Dubs.
