Your Club Update
September 25, 2019

Well, Isn't it getting busy?

I feel like I've lots to tell you about this week. Trying to get the message out with so much going on can be a challenge. Hopefully, you'll stick with me, and find something to get involved in. Because there's lots going on, and they're all better with participation. I've tried to highlight important dates in bold. Read on
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Cúl Community: All-Club Event: 6 October

Cúl Community (6th October) is our annual Lá na gClub. It's a fundraiser but way more. It is giving us a chance to show our colours throughout our parish, and come together as one club. The Junior Hurlers are in a final that day, and the Senior Hurlers are also in a Semi-Final clash on the day, so we'll do our best to incorporate them.
First, here's a link to the Facebook event. If you're a facebooker, why not mark yourself as going to help to spread the word. Next, there's a dedicated page on the club website, so it would be good to get yourself familiarised with the day.
  • The day will begin with a sponsored hurling/football/camogie relay through the parish. Put simply, teams will begin at various landmarks around the parishes of Fairview and Marino and each will make their way back to the club. The idea is to have a presence throughout the parish, with all routes leading back to St. Vincents. We'll be in our club colours and be visible everyhere! Here's a big PDF map with all the routes. Mentors; There are designated starting points for various teams, and we'll send out individual mails about these this week.
  • Back at the club we'll have a BBQ, and there will be games for the younger members in the hall, we'll have a tuck shop and the bar will be open. The Mini Leagues will end the relay with a run across PNU2.
  • For those who want to go over to Parnell Park to watch the Senior Hurlers, we're going to try to go over from the club en-masse. This will make our presence felt!
  • A little later, but still early evening we'll have live entertainment in the club bar.
The hope is to get all members of the club together to celebrate our club and community, and to raise awareness of the club particularly amongst people who may be new to the area or have moved into some of the new housing developments in the parish. The sponsored aspect will also raise much needed funds.
Speaking of sponsorships: All sponsor cards that bring in more than €50 will be entered into a draw for a Vinnies hoody, and the team that raises the most sponsorship will also win a full set of Jerseys!
How can you help? I'm glad you asked!
Mentors: Spread the word. Ensure you team are raising funds, and bring big participation on the day. If you wish to add images to your whatsapp messages etc, they are available here
Parents: We need marshalls, help and participation on the day!
Players: This is our big club event, it will be great fun and gives you a chance to show your pride in your club.
There's some costs associated with running this day. If your company has a sponsorship or corporate and social responsibility fund, perhaps you could consider a modest sponsorship? Get in touch if you can.

Mega Champo Sunday a success

Last Sunday say no fewer than 6 home championship games.  Not a bad outing overall: 4 wins, 1 postponed and 1 loss. Thanks to the camogie section, all of the supporters we well looked after. Thanks to Mary Hayes, Marie Byrne and Patricia Traynor for sorting out food. Also thanks to the parents of the Juvenile camogie teams to brought their girls along for support and chipped in with food for the day.
The senior 1 camogie team won in some style beating Skerries on a scoreline of 9-16 to 0-06.
The intermediate 1 camogie team beat Naomh Padraig 6-11 to 1-10
The Junior B Hurlers won their semi final against Craobh Chiarain on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-14
The Junior 1 camogie team beat Plunketts by 2-05 to 1-03
The Junior 2 team's game did not go ahead as the pitch was deemed unplayable.
The Minor A footballers, were pipped by 1 point against Thomas Davis. Final score 2-13 to 1-17.

Senior Hurling QF Thriller

If you didn't make it to Parnell Park for the Senior Hurling Quarter Final against Ballyboden you miseed a thriller. Yours truly missed the action due to supporting my own U13 lad, but caught the important part on DubsTV on my phone in the kitchen. The game ended in a draw St Vincents 0-20, Ballyboden 2-14. 10 minutes each way of extra time beckoned, and we got off to a cracking start by scoring a goal 18 seconds into extra time. But we didn't stop there. In the extra time, we outscored Ballyboden 1-9 to 0-01. Final score: Vins 1-29 Ballyboden 2-15. This brings us to a semi final meeting with Cuala at 4:30 pm on the 6th of October in Parnell Park.

Dub Club Health CPR Training

Did you know, that 10% of people who learn CPR will use that training in their life time? And 50% of them will perform a procedure on a loved one. I think we can all agree that learning CPR, how to use a defibrillator and how to deal with a choking victim are great skills to have. As part of the AIG Dub Club Health initiative we are hosting two CPR classes on Wednesday 16th October. If you'd like to come along (it's free!) please sign up here. We have enough places for a mentor from evey squad. Wouldn't that be something? Here's a useful video about the training

Club Gear Ordering Night

There'll be a club gear ordering night next Wednesday, 2nd of October, from 7-9pm in the club bar. We'll be taking orders on both GAA Store gear (training and leisure wear), and O'Neills (playing gear) on the night.

Dubs Homecoming Tickets

When I went looking for a link to the Dublin Womens and Mens homecoming, my google search mainly came back with articles about the Lord Mayor defending his decision to make this a ticketed affair, I did however, find the official notice from the county board. Luckily, tickets are also being made available through the clubs, and we have an allocation. Free tickets will be available from 10:30 am this Saturday for collection at the club office. Club Secretary John Kiernan will be there to give out the tickets. As our number is limited, we ask for a limit of 4 per family. First come first served, naturally. Go!

Mouthguards Research Study

We are delighted to be taking part in a research study on mouthguard compliance, and on the adequacy of mouth guards worn by children aged 9-16 playing Gaelic football in Ireland. This study is being carried out by Dr Elaine Shore, a postgraduate specialist trainee in Pediatric Dentistry at the Dublin Dental University Hospital as part of a doctoral thesis. The study is been overseen by Dr. Anne O’Connell, Associate Professor and Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Shore and her team will be on site next Tuesday 1st October and Thursday 3rd October to carry out surveys with players and parents on their use of the mouth guard.
Full details are available on the club website, including ethics and privacy statements. This project has the full backing of the executive and child protection officers.
Parents: we ask you to come along too, and sign parental consent forms.
Mentors: Please spread the word amongst your teams, particulalry if you are triaining on Tuesday or Thursday.
