This was announced on social media, but I'm aware that a number of subscribers aren't on social media.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ken Fagan, RIP. Ken was a lifelong member of Naomh Uinsionn who lived the last number of years in California. Our most sincere sympathies go to his wife Dympna and their sons Oisín, Ruairí and Conal, his Mam Betty, sister Ger and brothers Frank, Alan, Kevin and Tom, Dympna’s family - the Dohertys, extended family and all who knew and loved him.
Ken grew up on Addison Road in Fairview, and played Hurling and Football for St Vincents from an early age. He shared his passion for Naomh Uinsionn and Dublin with his sister Ger, and brothers Alan and Kevin. Those who kept in touch with him (and there are many!) will attest to the photos of Ken in the USA, always sporting a Dublin or Vincents top. Indeed, Ken seemed to time his regular trips home to his mother Betty to coincide with big Vincents or Dubs games.
With the help of his Dympna, and the boys, Ken’s home was like the California chapter of St Vincents, welcoming many-a-clubmate with a great warmth and hospitality. His support of the club continued from afar, and it is a sobering coincidence that he along with this family had pledged to sponsor one of our boxing fights, which was meant to be held last Saturday, the day of Ken’s passing.
A warrior on the pitch, with a sense of divilment, Ken will be missed by his wonderful families in California and Fairview, and by the wider St Vincents community.
We can’t imagine how difficult the current crisis will make organising the usual rites of passage that we Irish consider so important; When we’ve come through this emergency, we will be proud to gather together to pay tribute to our own, very special St. Vincents son and brother, Ken Fagan. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís.
