Club Notes, 24th November 2021

Wherein, we head towards wind-down

5 teams left in action, down from 6. I'll update you on the minors late in this week's newsletter.  Rising covid numbers has us being a little cautious on end-of-year indoor stuff; Still teams to support, but please continue to try to be as safe as you can.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

Lotto Draw 22 November 2021. Jackpot was €4,600.  Numbers drawn were

10, 18, 4, 23

There was no Jackpoint winner.  Weekly winner of €100 was Gary Beresford. Next week's jackpot will be €4,750.  Sweet.  Actually, while I have you; There was a suggestion of a new type of lotto at this years AGM.  Would you enter if it changed ? Tell us what you think by filling out a 4 question survey here.

AGM Done and (kinda) Dusted

Many thanks to everyone who attended this year's Annual General Meeting.  While it covered most of the business of the day, the meeting was adjourned, to be completed in January.
As you may or may not be aware, our current Chairman agreed to stay on in the chair position last year as the committee felt a pandemic was not a good time for change; this was agreed at last years' AGM. However, the committee has now agreed to step down to allow for a new chair to be voted on.
At the time of this year's AGM, a new candidate had not come forward, and the committee were forced to adjourn the meeting until a new candiate can be identified.
People who are interested in forming a new committee are encouraged to speak to current members of the executive.
Please note: Under the St Vincents Constitution, A potential chair person forms a executive team, and the chair is voted on by the membership.

We're winding down

Rising covid numbers, and new restrictions mean we have to be cautious as we approach year end. With this in mind, the games directors have agreed the following:
  • This weekend is the last weekend of friendly games.
  • Only scheduled games by the county boards will go beyond this weekend.
  • Training on all pitches for all teams (except those still in competiiton) will not be allowed through December.
  • End of year gatherings are not being held - That's no Pizza parties, unfortunately.
  • No in-person meetings in the club - Please carry all meetings online.

Champo Watch

Last weekend was a big weekend for the Minors; unfortunately it wasn't to be. We now look forward to our U21s in Football/Hurling and our U18/U20 teams in Camogie action.  Let's crack on shall we?

Adult Camogie

Tough day at the office for the U18 Camogie who suffered a defeat at the hands of Castleknock last weekend (5-7 to 2-4). But this competition isn't knockout just yet, so they live to fight again. They'll take on Ballyboden on the 5th December at home.
The U20s are in the Div 2 Semi Final on this Sunday Morning, 28th.  Its at home on PNU2 versus Whitehall Colmcille. A local derby (and not the only one this weekend!) against a Colmcille, who we know bring their crowd and their voice! So, let's get down to this one!

Adult Football
The U21 Footballers are in the U21 A Semi Final against the aforementioned Whitehall Colmcille.  That on at home this Saturday, 27th at 2:30pm. Well, as I ment,..You know, I'm just giong to say it again.  This is a local derby. Whitehall bring a crowd.  So, let's get down and be our own 16th man!

Not forgetting the U21 Hurlers.  They've made it to the U21 A Final. That's on on 4 December, I'll update you next week.  Ah, sure I'll tell you now too - It's at home v Ballyboden on 4th December at 2:30pm.  This Saturday afternoon games are a great time. Handy to get to, and the day isn't all gone afterwards.

Minor Hurling
The Minor Hurlers played out a thrilller in Cloghran at the weekend, in the Minor A Hurling Championship Final.  The teams were very well matched, and the game was nip and tuck for the whole clash. It wasn't to be ours though, with a late goal putting Raheny up by 2 and giving them some momentum. Final score was  2-11 (17) to 0-13 (13). Niall Scully, is as always, prosaic in the indo in his write up of the game.
The minor team and management should be supremely proud of their achievements. Making it to the Division 1 final in both codes is quite the achievement, and one you may have taken at the start of the season. Both games were close, and while we didn't take the silverware, you only have to look at the crowds who turned up at both games to realise how your club is behind you. Defeat is sore, but we know you'll take the lessons into next season.  Well done to all, from all your supporters.

Also: A special shout out to Conor Dolan, who was hospitalised after last weeks game. We wish you a speedy recovery. Get well soon!

And while not championship, The Minor B Footballers contest the MFL 4 final this weekend! How did that happen? I don't know. I do remember a clash earlier in the year which left a team show up to play a league game, despite our lads being off somewhere else playing champo. Anyway, looks re-fixed and the lads take on Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels. It's on Sunday at 11:00 am away in Galtymore Road.

Juvenile Championships
The last of our Juveniles to be in action, U16A look forward to the U16B Final. That's on this Saturday, at 2pm on PNU2.  In case this isn't obvious - that's just a half an hour before the U21 game on PNU1, so you could get a twofor if you get down early.  A good enough spot could mean keeping an eye on both games!  Best of luck the U16s

Right folks, we're down to the last few. Support has been amazing; let's dig deep this weekend! Naomh Uinsionn Abú ! 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

If you're looking for where and when a game is on remember, fixtures are published on the club website.

Should we change the lotto?

An idea floated at the AGM to replace our current lotto.  Tell us what you think!

And finally..

From the "shameless-plug-but-I-think-you'll-find-it-handy" department: As part of the day job, we've put out an iPhone App for helping you keep score of your Gaelic Football, Camogie or Hurling Games. It allows live posting of updates to twitter. Those who follow the club account may have seen regular updates on recent Minor and U21 games, where I was beta testing. Of course, you don't have to tweet live, and its just as handy for keeping score at your kids' games. That's my main use case! Anyway if you have an iPhone running iOS 15, it's now available for free on the App Store. Our lead designer plays for Barróg, our Project Manager plays intermediate for Good Counsel, one of our developers plays his football in Cavan, and of course yours truly volunteers with St Vincents; There's good GAA pedigree in this one.

Now. The next person to ask me when the Android version is coming gets a smack.

(we've started...its' on the way).
