Club Notes, 23rd February 2022

This weather malarky; quite the dynamic situation

Ah here.  I thought we were looking forward to a full weekend of football last weekend, only to the plug pulled late in the week. You'd wanna see the email inboxes of the poor aul games directors last friday, there were mails from county boards, lack of mails from county boards, requests to switch games into training sessions and so on and so forth.  We might chat about this in this week's notes.
Still: This means we have the opening of the Hurling this weekend. All adult mens hurling teams are down - not a bye in sight.  Here's hoping mother nature doesn't dump a monsoon on Dublin and we'll get to a game!

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

Lotto Draw 22 February 2022. Jackpot was €6,250.  Numbers drawn were

8, 16, 22, 11

There was no Jackpoint winner.  Weekly winner of €100 was Helen Mullins.

Next week's jackpot will be €6,400.

Opening weekend for Hurling

A full weekend of hurling in store this weekend; All 4 adult teams are in action, as well as the U19.  U17 have a football game, and I'm not sure why this is, but I'm sure someone somewhere made this decision and there's a good reason, but shrug.

Here's this weekend's hurling games:
AHL1: Our senior team take on Craobh Chiarain, away in their Clonshaugh pitches.  Sunday morning at 10:30.
AHL4: Our intermediate team open their account against Ballinteer St John.  That's at home, also on Sunday morning at 10:30.  It's down for PNU1, but that's been closed of late - keep an eye on social media if you are planning on supporting this one.
AHL5: Our Junior As are away to St Patrick's Palmerstown.  Its down for Glenaulin Park, Sunday at 12:15.
AHL8: Our Junior B team are away to St Slyvesters.  Also down for 12:15 on Sunday, it's on in Broomfield.
U19: The U19s take on Ballyboden St Endas at home at 11:00 on Sunday morning.  This one will be played on Ard Scoil Rís.
U17: The U17s open their football campaign.  It's down for home on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 against Skerries Harps.

PNU1: "We were on a break"

As many of you may be aware, PNU1 has been closed in recent weeks.  Using it when it is wet really cuts it up, and prologed abuse would just lead to even more closures.  So, we ask all mentors to bear with us, we apologise for the inconvenience of it all. This happens most wet spring times, and is difficult to avoid.  Pitch inspections are happening on a daily basis; it'll be opened as soon as we can.
We also thank everyone for their flexibility in recent weeks.

While I have you on this. Last weekend's cancellation of games led to a flurry of activity; we'd ask you to spare a thought for the games directors and Michelle in the office who works the schedule; These situations can land out of the blue, and scrambling for decision making starts immediately. For example: The Dublin County board issued their notice, saying everything was off, but if there were pre-arranged challenge games on all-weather pitches, they could go ahead.  The LGFA county board gave an unequivocal "no training or games this weekend" message, while the Camogie County board stayed silent on the matter.  Later in the day, the LGFA updated their message to clarify that training on All Weather surfaces could go ahead.

So, what does this all mean?  Well, we try our best to get the message out to mentors as soon as possible, to allow them to ensure parents, etc. are aware of games being off; but statements such as "no training or games this weekend" typically mean "player injury scheme is not in force this weekend", which is why we toe the line.  As you can probably appreciate; if the message is changing over the course of the day, it can be difficult to keep everyone appraised - particularly, with 3 associations issuing guidelines.

It also means that some rain-and-wind-loving enthusiastic mentors immediately start ringing the club for clarifications, or requests to switch their match to a training session.  We admire the enthusiasm, but your call may be the fourth the games director has taken, while they are trying to go about their day job, and having not got around to reading the latest advice. So folks, when changes occur, please spare a thought for those who are trying to help!

St Patrick's Weekend Kicks off with a Céilí Mór!

From the "this-should-be-legendary" department: The Senior Hurlers, in conjunction with the Senior Camogie team have put together an epic Céilí Mór event for Wednesday, 16th March.  The event consists of:
A big Céilí in the club hall
A trad band playing live music in the club bar.
A draw for prizes including signed Football/Hurling and Camogie Jerseys.

I know, you're thinking "on a Wednesday, are you mad?".  Yeah, but get this. Thursday 17th is a bank holiday. Not only that, Friday 18th is a bank holiday too!, Saturday 19th is a Saturday, and Sunday is, well, I think you get the idea. This is a perfect storm of days off work; 4 days is exactly the kind of recuperation I need from a night out, I'm so out of practise.

Lookit Marty, sure we've all been cooped up for 2 years - this is a chance to stay local, and unleash the inner plastic paddy.  There'll be buala bos, damhsa, I can already imagine the sing song; I'll be bringing my 70s school days repetoire. I'll see your "D'imigh go Góla" and raise you a "'s a mhathairín a ligfidh tú go aonach mé?" ("Níl tú a deich nor a hAon déag fós").  Tell you what.  I'll make a deal.  Buy a ticket NOW, and I'll persuade Richie in the bar to serve green pints.
Tickets are €20, and all proceeds will be used as the main fund raiser for this years Senior Hurling and Senior Football campaigns.
Where can you get a ticket?  Online of course.  Here: Let me make this easy

Good luck, Ladies Footballers as you head to the Kingdom

Ladies Director of Football Niamh Adamson is very excited to confirm the participation of our Adult Ladies & 2nd year minor teams in the the 33rd Páidí Ó Sé Football Tournament. They are heading off to Kerry this weekend and will proudly represent Naomh Uinsionn and Dublin!

The Tournament is taking place across the Dingle Peninsula. Like most sporting events, it was cancelled in 2021. However, as the tournament Chairman Pádraig Óg Ó Sé said – you can’t keep a good thing down. The tournament features teams from 8 counties including Kerry, Westmeath, Meath, Longford, Kildare, Galway, Laois and of course Dublin.

"I hope the players perform to the best of their abilities, have some great Kerry craic and bring back some great memories. Who knows, perhaps this may become a tradition for our growing Adult Ladies Football section!"

A call for help - Wither a plumber?

I've been asked to put a shout out for a plumber. Is there any plumbers in the club? We have a number of helpful tradesmen that we rely on for small jobs, and advise.  We've Sparks, Chippies, Painters, Mechanics, Diesel fitters, but not a plumber in sight.  Don't worry, we won't inundate you; If you can lend a hand the odd time, please drop Michelle in the office a mail

And finally..

We can't let this week go by with sending a massive comhghairdeas to our friends and neighbours the Marino Institute of Education who won their first ever Fergal Maher cup against St Marys on a scoreline of 2-16 to 2-06 last Sunday.

I may be biased, but I think it's no coincidence that this first win was achieved when Vins player Rory O'Neill (3rd from the right, back row) was a member of the squad!
Well done to Denis Forde and all in MIE; and congratulations Rory!
