| | I had a nice week away last week, which accounts for no newsletter. I hope you don't mind. Volunteers need a break too sometimes! That's my excuse, anyway. Lots of folks representing Vincents in inter-county action at this time of year; we'll try our best to round them up, a few social bits and pieces to mention, and there's the usual look forward to the weekend's games. |

| U14's Bring a Friend Night - Do you know anyone? |
| The U14 girls have organised a “New Player's Night” this Friday. I gotta say, what a fantastic initiative. The team is looking to bolster its numbers, so are opening up their training session to anyone who'd like to give Camogie and Gaelic football a go. If you know anyone in the area who has a daughter born in 2009, please make sure you pass this on to them! They tell me: "Any girl born in 2009 interested in joining the squad is very welcome to our “Bring a Friend” social night. On the night you will get to try Gaelic Football and Camogie and meet the rest of the current squad of 2009 girls. There’ll be pizza for participants in the hall afterwards! No experience is necessary. No need to bring any gear – just bring yourself! DATE: FRIDAY, MARCH 24th TIME: 7:00-8:30 PM WHERE: ST. VINCENT’S GAA CLUB, PNU2 ALL WEATHER PITCH For further information: Contact Joyce Murray at (086) 088 6462 If you know anyone with a girl born in 2009 who might be interested, why not pass them on the flyer available at this link." (emphasis, my own!) |
| | And it's not just the U14s. Calling all Mammies (and Others) |
| Our Gaelic 4 Mothers and Others team are also on the hunt for new players. Gaelic for Mothers and Others is a social team, aimed at over 25s who might like to play Gaelic and have a bit of fun while doing so. We've had many a mother who has made the transition from ardent supporter of her child to active player. If you think you'd like to give it a go, contact Michelle Whelan at 087 903 5780. Note: Being a mother is not a pre-requisite! This is open to all over 25s who are not playing competitively for a GAA club. Training is just one hour per week, and the basic skills of the game are taught including hand pass, kicking along with a short game. No gear or experience is necessary to get started! |
| | Third Thursday: First night tomorrow! |
| Another reminder for the social diary. Tomorrow sees the launch of the “Third Thursday Night In”. This is a new social event for members young and old to get together, to socialise, have a drink and a chat, and reminisce about old wins, or look forward to yet-to-be-had ones. Want to come along? Simply come to the club bar any time after 9:00 pm. |
| | Ardscoil Rís: Upcoming 50th Anniversary Mass |
| Current Ardscoil religion teacher, Mr Carroll was in touch to let us know about a mass to celebrate 50 years since the founding of the school: "We are having a mass to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the school in 1972 on Sunday, March 26th 3 pm in St.Vincent de Paul church Marino. Past pupil Bishop Fintan Gavin will be the main celebrant. Following the mass, you are invited to join us for refreshments and the sale of our commemorative 50th book in the school sports hall. | Adult Ladies: Trip to Muckalee |
| Well done to the adult ladies football team who headed down to Kilkenny, by invitation from Muckalee Ladies Gaelic for a challenge game. Muckalee are the current Kilkenny Senior and Minor Ladies Gaelic Football champions, and we were delighted to be invited down for the event which formed part of their St Patrick's weekend celebrations. Muckalee were wonderful hosts, and our girls took the opportunity to turn it into an overnight stay. A few images of the day were posted by Muckalee. Our sincere thanks to Muckalee for the invitation. |

| APM Classes in the Club Gym |
| Athletic Profile Monitoring are currently running scheduled classes in the club gym. All of their classes are open to all and are pay-as-you-go. they charge between €10 and €15 (depending on the class). The sessions are group training sessions, or sessions for beginners. If you think you'd be interested, download the Wunderbook app, search for “Athletic Profile Monitoring” and make a booking. This week's schedule is below. |
| | And on the subject of the Club Gym.. |
| The Club Gym is a resource for all adult playing members. Access to the gym is using a fob, which can be purchased in the club office for €25 for the year. Some simple rules apply: - Anyone attending the gym should have their own fob. No tailgating! The money that you pay goes directly to the upkeep of the gym, so anyone accessing it should be contributing.
- Wipe down all equipment after use.
- Please take any rubbish, empty water bottles etc. out with you.
- Try to leave the Gym in a better state than you found it.
Players should also note that at times, the gym will be booked for team slots or for classes operated by Athletic Profile Monitoring. When classes or team slots are in use, members should not avail of the Gym Facilities. The Gym schedule is published on the club website at this location |
| Inter-County Representation |
| At this time of year, there's a lot of overlap between the Inter-county and club scenes; we have a number of players who are playing, or about to play for the county. If I miss anyone, mentors: Please let me know! Ladies Gaelic Football: Congratulations to Hannah Murphy, who captained the Dublin U16 Ladies to a 5-05 to 1-08 win over Kildare last weekend. Well done to Niamh Hetherton, who played in the Jackie's win over Donegal (2-13 to 0-06). (and a cracking photo too!) U20 Football: Congratulations to Andrew Smith and Kalem O'Brien who both played in yesterday's U20 football championship win over Wicklow. (1-14 to 3-06) Senior Hurling Also congratulations to Conor Burke who played midfield in the Dubs' win over Laois (1-29 to 0-20) Senior Camogie Commiserations to Muireann Kelliher and Aisling Maher who suffered defeat to Galway (1-14 to 0-09). Minor Hurling Dublin's minor hurlers get their championship started this weekend. The starting XV has not been announced at the time of writing, but we wish Harry Curley, Ronan O'Neill and Ryan Murphy who are on the minor panel all the best! Hey: On the subject of U20s and Minor Games, Leinster GAA have launched a great value ticket : 8 games for €40. They say: “This pass will entitle Ticket holders to go to 8 games of their choosing in both Minor and U20 Championships. These tickets will not be county specific and will be valid right up until the Final stages.” For details on this visit here. |

| | | I missed out on the St Patrick's day fun in the club, but the word coming back to me was everyone had a blast! From bar manager, Richie Conway: “Treasure hunt was great craic! Kids had a ball the trail led them to the hall, where the Treasure was revealed from behind the shutter to Irish Ballads and flashing green white and orange lights, everyone left with something.” and “the night was great craic too. Amazing ballad singer, and a great DJ too.” Richie went on to request thanks to all those who helped out: “Amanda, Senan, Emma, Yanish, and Michelle for all their help setting up the treasure hunt, and the bar and coffee crew for keeping everyone fed and watered all day!” Well done to all! I'm gutted I missed it. |
