Club Notes, 22nd August 2022

Club notes on a Monday? What's this all about?

I'm with you - I'm not mad about change myself. This is an experiment.  As I see it, Wednesday's are getting more difficult to get the notes out. There's two problems: With a young lad at U16, they are playing the odd mid-week game on a Wednesday; so time gets tight.  But also, there's the Junior Camogie and Ladies football games to consider.  I noticed a couple of times a Ladies game might miss out on a mention because it was already played, and next week's shedule wasn't out yet.
So, in an attempt to try to sync up with the availability of the weekly schedule, I'm giving this a go.  Who knows, Monday may become the new club notes day.
Enough of my rambling - Because there's a few things to get through this week.  We look forward to a hurling weekend for the men, and a Camogie weekend for the ladies.  Juvenile springs back into action this weekend too, so it's all go.

We're still offering a way for members to take over our Instagram channel, so more on this below.
As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

Ha. I've just found drawback 1 of doing the notes of a Monday. I don't have the Lotto restults yet.  I promise I'll catch up when I have them.  Remember though, the prize fund sits at €8,000.  Tidy.

All Stars Trip To Croker!

The St Vincent’s All Stars participated in the GAA All Stars Inclusion Activity Day in Croke Park Today. Four of our All Stars and the All Star Volunteers (big and small) attended the event along with family and friends. The flags were flying and the blue and white face paints took a hit!
26 Clubs from around the country participated in the event. It was the Vinnies Stars first blitz and they did the Club proud.
The day was all about the All Stars with a focus on FUN! There was hurling, football, an obstacle course and everyone’s favourite the parachute! Team photos were taken and lunch was provided for all. It was such an enjoyable day for all… kudos to the GAA Diversity and Inclusion Team for all of the hard work that went into making the day such a success.
We look forward to the next blitz and maybe hosting a few teams in the Club this Autumn!
If you are interested in volunteering with the All Stars or if you are aware of a potential All Star (age 5+) please get in touch with Sarah and Vanessa at allstars@stvincentsgaa.ie we would love to hear from you! Training returns on 9 September!

Champo Watch

Another good win for the Senior Footballers in the championship, but unfortunately a defeat for the minor Camogie team.
If I miss anything, please don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Mens Football
The senior footballers had a good win last Friday night when they headed away to Ballyboughal. Final score was 0-17 to 0-12.  There was a big crowd out in Ballyboughal, and it was a pretty physical affair. Ballyboughal will rue the fact that they gifted us frees at nearly every attack. Mossy was putting them over like he was at a training session in PNU.
Good win also for the intermediate footballers, who were also away, this time to Cuala.  They won by a single goal - 2-13 to 3-13.
The junior A footballers suffered a defeat to Ballinteer St Johns (2-9 to 0-8), and the Junior Bs had a weekend off thanks to a Bye.

Mens Hurling
The senior hurlers enjoy a week off from competitive play this weekend due to a bye.  Best of luck to the intermediate hurlers, who host St Sylvesters at home - Throw in is this Saturday. 27th at 6:00pm.
Good luck also to the Junior A hurlers who travel to Marlay Park to meet Ballinteer St Johns on Sunday morning, 28th at 11:00 am; The Junior B's have a trip to Cloghran on Sunday afternoon, 28th when they take on Whitehall Colmcille at 3:00pm.

Adult Camogie
A tough encounter in Oliver Plunketts saw defeat for the minor camogie girls. Particularly harsh given this was their first outing; They're building as a team and will dust off and get straight back into it.
Disappointment for the Junior Camogie team, who won, but by a walkover as their game against Balinteer was conceded.

This weekend is a camogie champo weekend:
The senior camogie welcome Lucan to PNU on Sunday morning. Throw in at 10:30 am.

Immediately after this, the inter 1 camogie team welcome Naomh Fionbarra ; this is also at home, throwing in at 12:30pm.  Coinciding with the inter 1 game, the inter 2 camogie travel to Ballinteer that's also Sunday 28th throwing in at 12:30.
The Junior camogie team get to play ahead of the rest: They take on Cuala this Thursday (25th) on PNU2. Throw in is at 7pm.

Though not championship,  CCC1 games return this weekend, which means U8-U12 boys are all in action, as are the juvenile ladies fooballers.  Best of luck to all the players getting back into it.  Remember folks, you can find our fixtures here. Of course - fixtures can be sometimes subject to last minute changes - if you let me know, I'll do my best to update it, but please keep an eye on social media, and your team whatsapps, etc.

Speaking of Camogie: A great opportunity for budding coaches

The club is opening up a unique course to help build the next generation of camogie coaches.  This is an amazing opportunity for anyone considering coaching as part of their future.
The course is a foundation and level 1 course being run by Niall Williams (head of coaching devleopment for the Camogie Association).  Each participant will be supported in their learning through a combination of course work, placement with St Vincents teams and both individual and group tuition.  During the course, you'll get to design coaching plans, and get help in implementing those plans, with full support along the way.  Anyone who is interested should contact Adult Camogie Director, Clodagh Carroll on 087 141 2640

Well done, U9s!

Last weeked saw our U9 compete against Whitehall, Fingallians and Naomh Barróg in the Barróg U9 hurling blitz.  Congratulations to our lads who dug deep to win the competition!

Mini Leagues Return Date

Mini Leagues will return on Saturday 3 September, at 10:30 am. This day will also be a "welcome day" where we'll ask new recruits to come on down and see what its all about. We look forward to the return of mini leagues!

Volunteers Day

It's amazing what you can get done with many hands.  Volunteer's day was last weekend. I'd call it a good turnout, but as Dunphy was wont to say, not a great turnout, a good turnout.  Still, we made what we could of it.  The rails were scrubbed and painted, the paths were power washed, the kerbs were painted, the grasses were cut, and a number of rooms got a much needed clearout. The club facility does have an air of a face lift about it. Come on down and tells us what a great job we did!  A shout out to Mark Nolan; many of you will know him.  Mark has agreed to look after co-ordination of maintenance duties and general facilities for the club.  Mark jumped right in last weekend, taking charge and making sure everyone who showed up had a job to and no offer of help was squandered.
There are plans afoot to do this once a quarter; and we'll be looking to make this a wider group!

Instagram takeover has begun!

My thanks to Carolanne Canning who is running the club Instagram for the next two weeks.  She's already jumped in with both feet, and putting a spotlight on Camogie.  I'm also delighted to see she got to the GAA for all event in the Croke Park today, and got lots of images of the Vinnies All stars.
If you'd like to get on the list of people to take over Instagram, Fill in the form here.
This is open to all members of the club, young and old (but young folks will need parent's permission!).

And finally..

Just when I thought I'd managed to mention every inter-country representation, another few come along. I have to say, this is a good problem to have to deal with!  Big congratulations to Ciara Rowden, Nabbie Ryan and Clodagh Glennon and Kay Ryan all of whom have been lining out for Dublin U14 Camogie for the last few months.

Well done girls.  Keeping the Vinnies representation alive and kicking!
