Two semis, one throw in time.
Your Club Update
January 22, 2020

Two semi finals. One throw-in time.

This weekend sees two of our teams competing in All-Ireland Semi-Final action on the same day. It's a shame that we have to split our support, but congested calendars being what they are moving either game was not an option. Not that we didn't try, of course. Sure lookit Marty, we see this for the unique position it is, and we hope all of our supporters will make sure they get to one or t'other this weekend. Details of course are below.
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Operation Transformation 2020 - Have you a story to tell?

Our operation transformation walks continue every Monday and Wednesday nights. Remember:
  • Meet at the club at 7:15
  • OPTIONAL Weigh ins each Monday before the walk
  • No charge - just show up and join in
  • Bring your friends, this isn't just for members; all are welcome.
Now, can we get RTÉ to come visit?  Well, maybe - have you a story to tell? They sent us this message:
"we are looking for interesting storylines that will capture and promote the importance of Ireland Lights up for GAA clubs. For example, Latton O’Rahilly’s GAA Co. Monaghan showcased Deirdre, a club member that had been diagnosed with diabetes but after joining Ireland Lights Up Walk in her local community she was able to keep her diabetes at a safe and healthy level."
If you think you're reason for doing the walk is of interest, drop me a mail and I'll get it on to RTÉ.

New rules for Football, 2020

New playing rules for football have come into effect from 1 January 2020. They are:
  • The advanced mark.
  • The kickout mark
  • The Sin Bin
  • Kickout from the 20 metre line.
While they sound straightfoward enough, there's a 4 page document issued by the county board to explain the new rules. Mentors: You'll need to familiarise yourself with these, and explain them to your players.

Well done, local schools with lots of Vinnies players

You may remember last week that I mentioned that both Ard Scoil Rís and Dominican College were in Senior Finals. Well, guess what? They both have only gone and won them! Congratulations Ard Scoil, who took home the Dublin "A" hurling title on a 2-17 to 3-09 win over Maynooth.
Also, congratulations to Dominican College who won the Leinster Senior "A" Colleges camogie final on a score of 5-05 to 3-07 over St Mary's Naas

New membership system in place

The club are using a new system for both membership management and communications for this year. The system is provided by ClubZap. This includes a mobile app which can be used by everyone to manage their membership, and recieve information on individual teams, etc. The ClubZap app is available for iPhone in the App store or Android in the Google Play Store. Hopefully, you'll have received a renewal link from Club Zap.

2020 Memberships are now open for renewal

Membership renewal has been opened up and you can pay your membership online through ClubZap. Pricing and payment page available here. If you've already paid, we thank you for your prompt response.

A bit of anti-social behaviour - please be vigilant

We've had a couple of anti-social behaviour incidents in the club over the last couple of weeks including a car being stolen and a bike being stolen. This is very disappointing, and we'd urge all members to take extra care. A couple of simple tips:
  • Make sure any bikes are secured with a high-quality lock. Do not leave bikes unlocked
  • Make sure there are no valuables on view in any parked car
  • Please report any suspicious incidents or loitering to keyholders if they are on duty.
  • If a keyholder is not present, please do not hesitate to report it to local Gardaí (Clontarf Gardaí station is 01 666 4800).
Gardaí have increased their patrols and are swinging by the club, so hopefully this will deter future offenders.

Those two big games

This has to be the clashiest clash since Joe Strummer accidentally walked into Mick Jones while both were carrying a pair of cymbals. I mean c'mon our Junior Hurlers have an All-Ireland Semi-Final against a team from Tipperary whilst our Senior Camogie team have an All-Ireland Semi-Final in Tipperary. Both games throw in at 2pm. Ah here.
These games are lifted with the presence of support, so we'd encourage you all to pick one or the other and come along in your colours.
Let's start with the hurlers.

All Ireland Junior B Semi Final - 26th January

Best of luck to our Junior Hurlers who play Drom and Inch in the Junior B Hurling All-Ireland Semi Final This Sunday, 26th January. Throw in is at 2:00pm. Like all of the games in this competiton it is being held in Kileedy GAA, Co. Limerick. To their credit Killeedy put on a good spread of sandwiches for the travelling teams and supporters, and the local pub, O'Caseys is the preferred after game haunt where the man of the match is awarded. Unfortunately, no supporters bus this weekend to this event, but we've seen a core support who drove to the recent games.

All Ireland Camogie Semi Final - 26th January

The second big game is our biggest Camogie game in 21 years. It takes place on January 26th in MacDonagh Park (Eire Óg), Nenagh. Throw in is 2:00pm. A supporters bus is available for just €10 return, but I warn you there are very few seats left. If you want to grab one, the link to purchase it here. If it is sold out, there will be a waiting list; if the list grows big enough, we'll add a second bus. This promises to be an epic encounter, and we'll need to bring support in serious numbers. Read an interesting preview of the game here. Also: Get down early for a bit of...

Semi-Final Hospitality, thanks to Bank of Ireland

All St Vincents supporters are invited to Bank of Ireland, Nenagh at 12:45 for a bite to eat and a cup of tea courtesy of our sponsor on the 26th! I know where the supporters bus will be stopping!
Nice one. Thanks, Bank of Ireland.

So you'd like to do a bit of hurling would ya?

The success of our Junior Hurlers, along with a growing panel of players means we're considering running two Junior Hurling teams for 2020. What do you think? Could you be persuaded? Maybe you stopped playing some time back, but fancy playing again. If you're interested, or you know someone who may be, let us know and we'll put you in touch with the relevant management.

This Weekend's Fixtures

The club leagues haven't started back yet, so there's no games this weekend. I expect it'll be another couple of weeks before we'll have games to talk about.

And finally..

They say effort is equal, and this is no doubt true.  I wonder can the same be said of graciousness in victory...

Congrats again, Dominican and ArdScoil.
