This time of the year feels like we're giving out holidays like snuff at a a wake. We're just past St Patrick's day, and are steaming straight into Easter. That means disrupted playing calendars for some, and a busy week ahead for our GPO, Nicole. Her hands will be full when she'll be welcoming big numbers to the Easter camps next week! From an adult perspective, just the adult men footballers in action this weekend. There's also Minor Ladies football on, and just the Minor Hurlers are up too. |

Final call on registrations | Folks - Please note that in order to be insured and to play, all players must be registered with the GAA, LGFA or Camogie Association via Foireann. I know I've had this in the notes for a few weeks, but it's important to note that the 31 March deadline for LGFA and Camogie is looming! Some important points: If you pay your membership fee, you don't need to do anything more - We push all paid-up members through to Foireann to register them. - LGFA's registration runs to 31 March 2024, so if you were registered with the LGFA last year, you're still registered.
- The Camogie Association registration also runs to 31 March 2024; so last year's registration is also still in force.
- The GAA's registration for 2023 ended on 31/12/2023, so any players playing this weekend need to have their membership paid; we'll continue to push any new members through to Foireann over the weekend.
Get yourselves in quick! Mentors: If you have a special request, let me know and I'll try my best to get to them. I recommend sending an email to pro@stvincentsgaa.ie and copying secreatary.stvincents.dublin@gaa.ie Mentors who will need team sheets over the weekend are advised to log on to Foireann and ensure their teams are set up correctly. Please do this sooner rather than later! Players: If you haven't paid your membership, you need to do so ASAP! | |

Lá Féile Pádraig: Fabulous day |
This year's family fun day for St Patrick's day was a great success. The treaure hunters hunted, and the everyone came back for the family quiz, the children's disco and the DJ on the evening. We thank eveyone who chose to spend your St Patrick's day at the club. Also a big shout out to the bar staff on the day : Richie, Dan, the two Senans, and Yanish. It took a trojan feat to convert the hall from kiddie's disco to cabaret venue for the evening old-folks sign-along in a short 30 minute window, all while keeping the upstairs bar humming. Well done lads. |
LGFA : Refs still needed - last call for their course |
Referee's co-ordinator for Dublin LGFA, Stephen Harbron dropped us a mail this week to continue to canvas for referees. He asked: "I am writing to you all as a last and final push to canvas for current referees within your club from Mens and Camogie section that are current referees and are interested in refereeing Ladies Gaelic Football. As you all know we are all struggling for referees across all codes and we are trying to minimise the amount of games called off due to shortage of referees as possible. So I ask you to please put out a call to your current Mens or Camogie referees to see if they would like to take up LGFA Refereeing, as the last thing we want to be doing is pulling games and denying girls of football or having a congested fixtures period later in the season. We have our last course of the year on Monday 25th March which is a 90 minute course and it will allow these refs to add LGFA to their refereeing options and will help us all cover the gaps. If they are available and want to attend please tell them to get in touch with me on 0879455119 or via this email address in the next couple of days so we can get them signed up for Monday." If you are a referee and have yet to officiate a ladies football game, maybe now is a good time to give it a go? I guess it would give you more flexibility on how you manage your weekend (and your referee income). It's pretty obvious that this is going to pinch soon - which won't be great for the game as a whole, so please consider it. |
Camogie Awards Gala - Let's sell this night out |
|
As previously mentioned, the Camogie section are holding a special evening in the club hall to celebrate recent wins, and to mark the anniversary of big wins past. They say: "Come celebrate with us on April 13th as we mark our successes since 2019! We will also commemorate our legendary All Ireland team of 1998, who paved a path for the future steeped in pride, commitment, driving ambition and a passion and love for our game! We've had much success since 2019, including 2 Senior Leinster Titles, multiple County titles and 3 from 3 in 2023, where for the first time in Dublin Camogie History 3 club teams at Senior, Inter and Junior all took home their championship titles in the same year. We are now delighted to host our first Camogie Awards Gala in St Vincents to celebrate these successes and we extend an open and warm welcome to all current and past players, mentors, partners, friends, fellow club members and supporters to come along!" Tickets are just €10, to help cover the costs of the event, but rest assured there'll be bubbles on arrival, food and entertainment. It will be on in the main hall, with doors opening at 7pm. Everyone is welcome! Get your tickets at this link. [Editor's note: These events always sell out, and always turn out to be terrific nights; but for some reason they tend to sell late. Spare a thought for the organisers who spend the interim time worrying, and playing a guessing game as they try to organise food, seating and the like. So, if you're planning on attending, how about buying NOW, rather than later - It really helps with planning] |

Probably a little less formal, but there'll be no shortage of craic on the 28th March, when the Senior 2 Hurlers and Junior Hurlers join forces for a social evening in the club bar. There will be a medal presentation as we mark the 2023 AHL4 and Intermediate Championship wins, followed by an evening of Disco Bingo. Tickets are €10 , with all proceeds going to support the Senior 2 and Junior Hurling campaigns. Get your ticket here. Top tip: That's Holy Thursday, so many of you will be on a day off for Good Friday. Yay. [Editor's note. At the risk of repeating myself, these events always sell.... Look: how about buying NOW, rather than later - It really helps with planning] |
There was no adult or minor action last weekend, so we'll just have to wait until next week to see how everyone got on. Even then, it'll be slim pickings. |
Our fixtures page has everything that's on; Saturday and Sunday are jam packed with all juveniles from U8 to U16 in action. For the adult men, it's a football weekend. The big game is on Sunday morning, when the Senior Footballers head over to Monastery Road to take on Round Tower, Clondalkin |
|
The other adult football games on this weekend are: Intermediate footballers: They welcome St Pat's Donabate, to PNU1 on Sunday afternoon at 12:15pm. The Junior A Footballers travel to Collinstown lane to take on Na Fianna; That's also on at 12:15pm on Sunday, and the Junior B form a counterpart to the Intermediate footballer's fixture - they are away to St Pat's Donabate, also at 12:15pm. Both Minor Ladies football teams are in action on Saturday: At 3pm on Saturday, the Ladies A team welcome Naomh Olaf to PNU2, and at the same time, the Ladies B team will take on Naomh Jude on the MIE Pitch. Two of our 3 minor hurlers are in action this weekend. At least I think that's it: Minor A head over to Marlay Park to play Ballinteer St John - thats on at 11:00 am on Sunday morning. Minor B are at home, on PNU2 also at 11:00 am on Sunday morning; They'll be playing Erin's Isle. Minor C are on our schedule as having a bye, but the county board has it as an away game against Lucan Sarsfields on Arthur Griffin Park, also at 11:00 am on Sunday. I'm sure mentors will be in touch with players and parents to clarify. |

If you follow our social media you may have seen this one already, but it deserves a mention here too - Well done to former Senior Footballer and now Juvenile coach, Kevin Golden. Kevin lined out for Ireland against Australia in the International Masters combined rules series. The good news is that Ireland won the series 2-0 |
And you can't but help notice the serious support that Kevin enjoys. Well done to Vanessa, Eli and Noah who have steadfastly supported Kevin's enduring Masters career at county and national level. |
