This is not normal. But then again, what is?

So, we're into "Phase 1" of the easing of restrictions. Let's not get too excited. The first glimmer of hope is in Phase 4 (20 July) which states "Competitions for sports teams (for example, soccer and GAA) can resume, but only where limitations are placed on the numbers of spectators and where social distancing can be maintained.". I don't know about you, but that doesn't sound like fun to me. In addition, the GAA are taking a hard-line approach with their advice. They've stated "We are instructing our clubs and counties to continue to adhere to the restrictions and to refrain from organising on-field activity. These measures are expected to remain in place until July 20."
And of course, all dates are subject to change based on advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team.
So, what do we know? Not much more than the above I'm afraid, but I for one and happy with the approach of putting health and well being above all else.
Over the last number of weeks, the club updates have been pretty similar, with not a lot to cover, but I thought this week, I'd talk about the things that ARE going on, rather than aren't. Hopefully, there's something of interest in here.
As last week: All club activities remain off. The club is closed until further notice. If there is anything of interest, I'll be sure to put something out on our social channels Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Continuing to help those in our community
|

Our volunteer team is now actively helping a number of people on a regular basis at this point. Individual volunteers have been assigned to those who have seeked help to give them a sense of security and familiarity.
If you or a family member is in need of assistance, simply call or text Aoife Drumgoole on 087 947 6626 and she will co-ordinate one of the volunteer team to respond.

The club executive goes high-tech
|

The club executive typically meet monthly, and the last two months have been no different. We've taken to Google Meet to run fully remote executive meetings. These meetings continue to deal with club business, governance as well as scenario planning as the current situation evolves. Please be rest assured that the executive continues to work on your behalf during this time. A shout out to our new club secretary Anne Harrington, who took up the reins mid April; her sole experience of the executive is via online meetings to date; We all look forward to being able to work together in person again.

Not to be out-done, so does the juvenile boys
|

Last Monday saw another online meeting; this time, the juvenile boys section got together to share ideas on working with their teams throughout the lockdown. We had every team from U8 to U16 represented with 38 people present; This may be a record turnout for this group. There was much discussion about what's been working so far at various age groups and a good exchange of ideas.

Reports from the juvenile ladies football and camogie sections show a high level of online activity amongst various teams here. Weekly training sessions, and extra cirricular activites are ongoing. I've been told of Yoga classes, Zumba, Quizzes and more.

Mentors: Foundation Level Course starting next week
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
Dublin GAA are running a foundation level mentoring course beginning next week. Details, including a sign up form is here. If you're at the start of your coaching career, this is for you. Entry requirements a simple: you must be Garda vetted and have completed Safeguarding 1 (Child Protection in Sport Awareness programme). The course is free, and you must sign up by this Sunday. Yes, you've guessed it, this is an online course.

Last Saturday saw Dublin GAA's Hurlers take part in a campaign called "Hurl For Hope" to raise funds for Pieta House. Their aim was to strike 500,000 sliotars over the course of an hour. Members from all Dublin County hurling squads, from U14 development squads right up to senior hurlers took part. Many of our own players took part; here's the ones I know about, and apologies to those I may have missed: Ken Ryan, Daniel Peel, Rian Mc Bride, Callum Walsh, Tom Connolly, Conor Dolan. Well done guys; you've done club and county proud.
The campaign is just off it's €25k target. They are so, so close, so if you can spare a few quid, you can chip in here

PNU2: Tresspassing is prohibited
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
We've mentioned over the last number of weeks that our grounds are closed and should not be used. Specifically, our all-weather pitch, PNU2 is locked. Despite this, we've had reports of people playing on PNU2. In order to access PNU2, people have had to climb over a fence. Members should be aware that this is trespassing and the club will take a very dim view of this.
Members found to be tresspassing on PNU2 will be subject to a ban, and any bans imposed will commence upon our return from lockdown.

Virtual Mini Leagues Runs Again This Saturday
|

|
|

Many thanks to all the families who have joined our virtual mini-leagues sessions.
Next Saturday will see another virtual mini-leagues. The session will be run 11:00am. Would you child like to take part? Simply sign up here. (If you signed up already there's no need to do it again). The team will follow up with an email with details on how to install Microsoft Teams and join the meeting. We hope to have a good crowd taking part.
