Club Notes, 20th July 2022

V is for Volunteers

This week we'll talk a little about volunteerism. We also see the opening of the championships, and I'm going to explain two ways in which you might lay your hands on an All-Ireland Football Final ticket.
Ready? Let's go.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Championship Gets Underway

So, Championship got underway yesterday.  A mixed bag of results it has to be said.
Congratulations to the Senior Hurlers who got off to a great start by beating Lucan in the opening round of the Senior 1 Championship.  Final score was 2-18 to 0-21.  It was a nailbiter where the sides were level throughout most of the game.  A super start.
Last night also saw the Junior A Hurling championship get started.  Hard luck to the Junior A, who were beaten on a scorline of 1-18 to 1-12 by St Peregrines.
Also commiserations to the Intermediate Hurlers who were defeated this evening (2-14 to 1-12) by St Maurs and finally commiserations to the Adult ladies team who were knocked out of their Junior G championship tonight (3-07 to 3-11) by St Sylvesters.
Our club photographer, Grainne McKinney was at the Intermediate hurling game this evening and sent me on this cracker of a photo of Keith Connolly.

While writing the club notes tonight, I realised, for shame that I owe an apology to the Junior B hurlers; A typo in the schedule meant they didn't make it into the fixtures calendar, which I missed.  This meant I didn't advertise their game along with other championship fixtures this week.  Forgive me Junior Bs! It was a simple error.
The Junior Bs begin their championship campaign tomorrow, 21 July (The Junior F championship) when they play away to Realt Dearg in Drimnagh Castle.  Throw in is at 7:15pm.

There's more championship action this weekend too:
Saturday (23 July) sees the Senior Hurlers back in the thick of it immediately when they meet St Brigids.  Throw in at 5:30 pm in Parnell Park.  Remember that the Senior 1 games are ticketed.  At time of writing the ticket link has not been published - But keep an eye on social media and I'll put it out when it is available.  Also, for those of you who like their life a litte less virtual, I'm told that one turnstile in Parnell Park will be accepting cash.
We'd love to see a big turnout to support us on Saturday!

Sunday (24th July) sees the Junior A team play away to St Patrick's Palmerstown, which throws in at 11:00 am and on Monday (25th July) the Junior B play their second round.  This game is at home with throw in at 7:15pm.

Chance 2: The Club Draw
The club has received a very small allocation of tickets for the All Ireland Senior Football Inter County final. Members of the club are eligible to enter for a draw for a chance to purchase a ticket. If you would like to enter the draw you can do so at this link.
Please note: This is open to fully paid up members of CLG Naomh Uinsionn only.
If successful, the person(s) drawn will be invited to purchase a ticket at €90.
The draw will be held on Thursday 21st July. 1 Entry per member only. (Emphasis, my own, based on experience of the hurling draw 😂)

Let's talk Volunteering

St Vincents, like every other club is run through volunteer work carried on by many, many dedicated fellow members. It happens for every code, and for every age group, and volunteering is the lifeblood of the club.
Of course, there's always some things to be done around the club, so if you have time to spare, perhaps you can help?  Here's three ways
Volunteer Help 1:
We're in need of some people to do keyholding occasionally during the week.  Keyholding involves geting down to the club to open up PNU2 at 6pm, and sticking around to close up (or returning to do so) around 9:30. We'd like to have a few people who could do this to allow to share the effort.  If you live nearby and this could be something you can help with, please contact Michelle in the office.
Volunteer Help 2:
Are you a sales person?  We're looking for a "closer" who can take on the role of selling pitchside advertising slots to local businesses.  Support in terms of potential contacts would be given.  We'd see this as a short concentrated effort of calling local businesses. A short burst, but a massive help to the club.  Drop me a note if this is you.
Volunteer Help 3:
Come down to the club to join our "volunteer day" on August 20. This is a morning were we get as many people down to the club to tackle small jobs around the place.  We'll do minor repairs, cleaning, painting and generally make the place look a little better.  Members of all ages are welcome to come down; we'll find a job for everyone.  If you have a particular skill, or work somewhere where the business may be able to donate materials, etc. please get in touch.

Often, when discussing who may be able to help with particular things, the same names come up.  People who have been known to help the club on a regular basis often get hit up again and again. But, we believe there's volunteers in the crowd who have yet to make themselves known.  Maybe you're not sure how to put your hand up, maybe you'd gladly help if asked.  If so, consider this being asked! Drop me a note, and we'll find a job for you!
We'd also like to appeal to players - maybe you've played for St Vincents for many years, and can look back on having great mentors and great support. All of this was from volunteers.  Maybe you can start to put a little in too.
And last ; If you already volunteer in any capacity - you have our undying gratitude.  This is what makes St Vincents great!

Inter-county roundup

Ah, it looks like the inter-county trains have pulled up to their stations. Commiserations to Ash and Muireann, who represented Dublin in the All Ireland Camogie Quarter Final.  Dublin lost to Kilkenny, which see their campaign come to an end.

Newsletter details

This newsletter is sent to over 1000 recipients and is a great way to inform members of club happenings. If you want anything included in the newsletter, drop a mail to pro@stvincentsgaa.ie. Comments and feedback are welcome too.

And finally..

I guess interviewing is part and parcel of the being a modern bainisteoir. Is this Proinsias de Poire's first Interview for DubsTV? I think so. But, I gotta say, he handled it like a pro.
