Your Club Update
July 1, 2020

And just like that, we're back

Great to see the re-opening of the club on Monday. I won't lie: I thought we had an uphill battle on our hands getting the detailed messages out to everyone, but bar a couple of minor teething problems, our return has been safe, followed the guidelines, and above all very well attended. More on this below.
If you like information on the club more often than a week apart, you can always follow our social channels Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Welcome back!

Monday saw us open the gates and let players back onto the field of play. Great to see everyone back, and in particular we saw full compliance with Covid-19 procedures around online learning, and medical questionnaires. A big shout out to the many parents who have volunteered to act as Covid-19 supervisors. This is a major help to the mentor teams to allow our children to get back to training.
Nothing but smiles all aroud as people came back.

Safe Return to Play Guidlines Updated - Again!

As mentioned before, the guidelines issued by the GAA are subject to change and will evolve alonng with government advice. The association issued version 1.3 of the guidelines just yesterday. As promised, our dedicated page is up to date with the latest version. Mentors might want to familiarise themselves with the latest version, as it included reference to how to react in the event of a change in a player's health. Details on this here. Admit it. You never heard of "Symptomatology" before now. Me neither.

There's even talk of games!

The county board have started organising draws and games. Here's what we know so far:
Mens Adult Football
Senior 1 Football Championship. We're drawn in group 3 alongside Ballyboden, Whitehall and Clontarf. Round 1 Sees us take on Whitehall on Saturday 25th July at 6:30pm on Collins Ave.
Our Intermediates are in group 4 of the intermediate all-county championship. We share that group with Na Fianna and Lucan Sarsfields. Our first round is a bye, so we'll have to wait until 5th August when we take on Sarsfields out at 5th Lock at 7:30 pm.
Our first Junior team are in group 3 of the Junior 2 all county championship. We share this group with Jude's, Fingal Ravens and Round Towers, Lusk. First game is at home on 26th July at 11:00 am against Judes.
Our second junior team are in group 3 of the Junior 4 all county championship. This group consists of Judes, Naomh Olaf and Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh.
First Game is not scheduled just yet.
Mens Adult Hurling
Our seniors are in group 1 of the Senior 1 Hurling Championship. The opposition here are Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Ruadh, Balinteer St Johns and Lucan Sarsfields. First game is at home on 18th July at 6:30pm against Eoghan Ruadh. Mark your calendars folks!
Our intermediates are in group 1 of the intermediate hurling championship. We share this group with Kilmacud Crokes, St Maurs and Kevins
Our Junior A Hurlers contest the Junior A Hurling championship in group 3 with Lucan Sarsfields, St Peregrines and Parnells
And our junior B Hurlers are in the Junior G Hurling championship in group 2 with Ballyboden St Enda's, St Judes, Lucan Sarsfields and Stars of Erin
Juvenile Boys
A staggered return to play for juvenile boys. The cliff notes are:
U16s go back August 5th, U15s on August 13th, U12s to U14s: August 22nd and U8 to U11s on August 29th.  I think a slow return to play makes sense here, as all this could change based on goverment advice.
Good news for the U14s: Féile will go ahead for both hurling and football, however it wont be a condensed weekend bringing many clubs together. Instead, this year it will be played across a number of weekends. In that regard it looks more like a "U14 Championship", but good to know they aren't missing out on that particular right of passage.

Ladies Competitions
Unfortunately, I'm not seeing any news about LGFA or Camogie fixtures; their websites remain blank but am hearing about cancellation of competitions at minor level. The Covid-19 lockdown has obviously compressed the calendar, so we'll expect a number of game casualties. As the groupings/fixtures come out, I'll be sure to let you know.

Also: Please keep an eye on more communications closer to the time - Fixtures can change, but we try to keep everything up to date.  I'd link to our fixtures page, but it's gonne be blank until the last week in July!

And finally..

When I was a kid, after a bout of non-stop talking, my ma would sometimes proclaim "you have too much to say".  So, when the GAA came to film our day of return to play, I grabbed the opportunity to prove her right.  Jayney, that fella loves the sound of his own voice. Edel and Ciaran did a marvellous job, mind. All in all, not a bad reflection of the club.
