Jayney.  I was planning another week off, but it would seem that many people are super-eager to get back; and there was no shortage of people asking me to mention something in the notes.  So, we find ourselves back.  A few announcements this week; no games but I'm sure they'll be on stream before we know it.

Membership is now Due

Membership for the 2022 year is now due.  You should have received a mail which will provide you with a link to renew.  If you use your unique renewal link, it will duplicate your membership from last year, and there won't be a need to fill out all of the family details again!
We thank those who already jumped on and renewed.
If you don't have a renewal mail, let me know and I'll arrange one.  For those of you beginning a new membership this year, you can purchase a membership online at https://vins.ie/membership.

How's your pint pulling?

The club are delighted that we were able to re-open the bar as covid restrictions began to lift.  This was thanks to a group of people who offerred to staff the bar on a volunteer basis.  The team are now looking for a few more volunteers, to share the workload a little.  From Richie Conway:
"We are looking to recruit more bar volunteers. Can you help us out?
We generally do our rota on a weekly basis, and the volunteer team have not only been crucial to the bar being open regularly, but we have managed to do it posively from a financial point of view, maintaining regular consistent friendly service!
It is great fun, and there's a fantastic bunch of people there already.  If you feel you might be able to help out at all, please get in touch, and we will be only too happy to welcome you to the team.  We have a lot of exciting plans and the volunteer team will be crucial to making these a success!"

Social Plans!

There are a number of social gatherings being organised - All of course subject to covid restrictions. Here's some things you can be on the lookout for in the first half of 2022:
Rounders (18 March).
It is with some glee that we hear the government has announced March 18 a once-off bank holiday this year.  We plan on running a family rounders competition.
This is just a bit of fun, and a chance to enter a team of mates, family members, partners, fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, brothers and sisters, cousins, neighbours, grannys, grandads all welcome!! Your team, your call.
We support each other from the sidelines, or carpark or viewing areas all year round, why not put a team together for one day and have a laugh? God knows we all deserve it!
There are no age restrictions so any age diversity in your team won't matter to us, as long as you show up, play, and enjoy the day! We will be using the real Rounders bats, and rules, no hurls/tennis rackets, chair legs or feet or hands to strike the ball!
As this is a social event we are hoping covid restrictions will allow for us to enjoy a full days fun and enjoyment in our own club; all going well we'll have a trad/ballad session in the bar afterwards.

Darts Nights
A dartboard has been acquired.  It has been fitted.  Now all we need is teams.  Watch this space.  We begin with an internal competition, but who knows, maybe some of you will end up representing Vincents on the pub dart circuit!

Pool Competition
Yes.  That table that you've left your shot glasses on. The one that acts as a spot prize stage for every quiz we've ever had. That's an actual pool table.  Word on the street it that a company are coming in to restore it to its former glory.  When this happens, a pool league will start up.  Again, watch this space.

And that's not all - The bar volunteer team have plans for regular quizzes (where teams can book in, and use the night for team fund-raisers), Karaoke, and other yet-to-be-announced nights. Could you be the next "Vincent's Voice"? How about "Naomh Uinsionn's got talent" ?  the world is our oyster!

Referee Appeal..again.

The Dublin County board have issued fresh requests for more referees.  From their mail:
"There was a significant increase in the number of teams entered across all competitions in both codes in 2021 at Minor and Adult level. A significant number of Clubs entered more teams than in any previous year.
There will also be additional games in 2022 with the advent of Under 17 and Under 19 competitions.
With more games inevitably comes an ever-increasing demand on referee resources to cover all these games throughout the year. When we have a full programme of League games at every Division it is challenging to have sufficient referees to cover every game, every weekend as well as midweek matches during the Summer months.
Coiste na Reiteoirí must always strive to recruit a cohort of new referees each year, to cover all these games and to replace referees who retire on age grounds etc. We certainly never want to reach a situation when we do not have referees to cover all our games – it is an old adage but a very true one: “No Ref, no Game” It really is as simple as that!
Coiste na Réiteoirí hopes to run a training course for new adult-level Referees in February of this year
"

Please note: the request is specifically looking for adult referees; If you would like to put your hat into the ring, please drop a mail to our club secretary

Might be of interest to mentors

The recovery rooms is a new facility out near Castleknock which provides faciilties for Athletes to recover from the stresses of training and playing. They were in touch to promote their service. Team discounts are available.  Visit their website for information on the facility. Here's what they had to say:

"We are Dublin's first Sports Recovery Centre and are based in Junction 6 Leisure Centre. We focus on reducing the risk of fatigue and overtraining while improving performance.
For the upcoming season we are looking to set up Club Memberships, in which all your club members would receive 20% off all individual and group recovery sessions. We also take large team recovery sessions which have been used by a variety of clubs across Dublin. Team sessions are €300 (Usually €15 per head) and are a fantastic way to not only recover from an intense schedule but improve team bonding and collective output.
*Further discounts available to associated Clubs who's members regularly use their discount code.*
.
If your club or members are interested in a Club Membership with us here please get in touch with us through this email or Call Brian Gartland on 0851268562."

AGM to Conclude Tomorrow

Those of you who attended the 2021 AGM would be aware that the meeting had to be adjourned because a new chairperson had not been nominated. This was adjourned to tomorrow night (Thurday 20th January).  The meeting continues tomorrow at 8pm, held online.  Those who already attended were sent a reminder, along with meeting details yesterday.  We look forward to concluding of the meeting and (fingers crossed!), appointment of a new executive committee.

Newsletter details

This newsletter is sent to over 1000 recipients and is a great way to inform members of club happenings. If you want anything included in the newsletter, drop a mail to pro@stvincentsgaa.ie. Comments and feedback are welcome too.

And finally..

Normally, I like to end the newsletter on a light-hearted gaa-related topic. This week won't be that.  All of us in the gaa community have been rocked by the news of the brutal murder of Ashling Murphy. We commend the tributes paid by those in competition this week.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
