A bit of banter won't paper over this one

Tuesday saw new restrictions on outdoor events. GAA is of course affected, and questions remain. Trying to keep everyone updated with the latest news is made difficult by the pace of announcements. I'll cover the week's annoucements below.
We're smack in the middle of championship action for many teams, and the '14s start a modified Féile this weekend. So, read on for more. I gotta say though, there's less wind in my sails, as I can't recommend games to go to because, you're not allowed, like.

Covid Restrictions - What's the latest?

We had a busy week when it comes to changes to restrictions based on Covid-19 precautions. Here's what we know so far:
First, there were some well-publicised positive tests in Dublin clubs. Raheny had to postpone their SFC game, and Fingallians had a short closure after a person tested positive there.
Following this, the Dublin County board issued a direction on how a club should handle a Covid-19 positive test.
On Tuesday, the government issued new guidelines, responding to advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET). Essentially, this directive states all sports events need to happen behind closed doors - No spectators are currently allowed at any games.
The GAA's response to this was swift, calling for "empirical evidence which informed the requirement for the Association to curtail its activities".
Whilst awaiting clarification, the Dublin county board called off the U12 games which were due to be held this evening.
Today, the GAA issued their current position, which is reproduced by the county board here and it states that for now, all CCC1 and CCC2 games should go ahead. It goes on to say: "While we await further clarification on the issue of parents attending juvenile games we suggest that one parent or guardian may attend a game where they consider it necessary for the welfare of their own child."
Folks, I'm not offering an opinion nor am I attempting to sum-up what all this means; Put simply, its evolving quickly, and only you can make the choices based on the informaton available.
As a club, we applaud Fingallians and Raheny for their swift actions, and will continue to take our guidance from county and national level. We continue to ask members do their utmost to protect public health and we are very grateful for all of your efforts to date.

Senior Football: On to the Quarters
|

|
|
|
| |
A good win last week against Clontarf saw us through to the SFC Quarter finals. We'll meet Kilmacud Crokes on Satuday August 29 at 5:30pm (No spectators allowed at time of writing).
Read the Dublin GAA write up on the Clontarf game here, or if you prefer, a 3 minute highlight reel here. It was a night where the young bucks (Lowry, L'Estrange, Lambe and Murphy) shone. You have to feel for them, because their efforts while talked about, were eclipsed by talk of that pass.

Senior Hurling Quarter Final this weekend - DubsTV Stream is your only option

Best of luck to our senior hurlers who contest the Dublin Senior A hurling championship quarter final this Saturday at 5:30pm, against Ballyboden St Endas. Dublin GAA will be streaming the game live, which can be purchased for €6.99. Full details here. Yeah, I know. But you would have paid a tenner in had you been able to go.

Senior Camogie off to a winning start. Round 2 this weekend.

I got out to see two games last Sunday - The minor B encouter with Na Fianna, and the Senior Camogie championship opener. Little did I know it was going to be my last game to watch for some weeks. Our senior camogie team got off to the best possible start to the defence of their Dublin crown: A comprehensive 0-18 to 0-05 win over Lucan Sarsfields last weekend. Well done to the team and we congratulate Aoife Drumgoole who has taken over at the helm. Eyes now turn next week's encouter where the girls meet Kilmacud Crokes away at 1:30pm on Sunday. Unfortunately, no spectators; I'll rely on spies in the camp to text me, and I'll keep the twitters updated.

I've spoken in the past about my grá for Féile. There's a certain right-of-passage that gives young players a taste of proper competition, which prepares them for the home stretch of juvenile that is U15 and U16. Féile usually means a condensed, single weekend, with 3 games group games played on day 1, and semi-finals and finals on day 2, mostly played at 1 host venue. Alas, Féile this year will not be played in this fashion, as it would result in large gatherings of people. Instead, it will be played over a few weekends, more like an U14 championship. Look. It's better than no Féile.
We wish the boys all the best as they begin their Hurling Féile competitions this weekend. Our A team will be contesting Division 1 Féile; Their opening game is against Ballyboden at 3:30pm in Cherryfield. Our B team will be contesting Division 6 Féile. Their opening game is against Stars of Erin; Its at home, on MIE, also at 3:30pm.
This year will be a special one for me, as my youngest takes part. So, you'll permit me a shout out to Finn and the entire U14 Squad. They're a great bunch of lads, a dedicated set of mentors, and the parents aren't the worst either.
I'll be honest:I'm really crossing my fingers for an update from GAA to give better guidance on parents attending juvenile games.

Ladies members: Are you starting college this year?
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
Many of you may remember the Louise Lynch Bursary, which was introduced last year in memory of our dear friend Louise. Once again, the bursary will be awarded. Full details on the programme is available here. The eligibility criteria are really straight forward. To qualify to enter you must:
- Be a playing member of St Vincents, playing either Camogie or Ladies Football.
- Be entering Third level education for the first time at time of application.
- Not be in receipt of another third level bursary or scholarship.
Note: Members who are entering Third level as a mature student are eligible to apply.
We urge anyone of our female members going to college later this year to apply. Entry is via a simple form here.

Head over to our fixtures page for a full list of games on this weekend. In the past, I always took a pick of a couple of games to give you something you could stroll over to watch. With a "behind closed doors" policy, I'm not sure I should. It's a whopper weekend. The youngest team out are U9 Camogie, and there's juvenile games at all age groups, as well as adult games at junior, intermediate and senior levels. None of which you can attend. 😢
