|
| | Well. Last weekend saw was the Girls Féile weekend. It all played out in 1 weekend, as it should be. Congratulations to our U15 team, who took home the Division 4 honours. An important Féile Semi-final win for the U15A lads team too; This sees them through to the Div 1 Féile final. The pitches have been more playable this week than last, but we can't rest on our laurels. Maintenance work is needed on the pitches, and we've put together a draw to raise funds to support this; More on this below. Keep an eye on social media this weekend, as pitch problems could continue. |

| | Inter-County Representation |
| Still some Inter-county representation going on. Let's see how last week panned out, and what we have to look forward to this week: U20 Hurling Good win for the Dublin U20 hurlers who beat Wexford in Parnell Park last weekend. (1-20 to 0-15) Well done to Brian Moorhouse-Carroll, Conor Dolan and Callum Walsh who were named on the squad. U20 Football Hot of the press: Well done to Andy Smyth, Bill Costello and Adam Reynolds-Hand who were named in the U20 squad which beat Meath this evening in Navan (0-14 to 0-10) Inter-county games we have to look forward to this weekend: The Dublin Senior Hurling team travel to Antrim this weekend. That team hasn't been announced yet, so we'll keep our “good lucks" to ourselves for now. The U20 Hurlers travel to Nowlan Park this Saturday to take on Kilkenny, on what is likely to be their toughest encounter so far this year, also still waiting for the team announcement, but we wish panel members Brian, Conor and Callum all the best ahead of this encounter. |
| Fundraising draw in support of pitch maintenance |
| | In case you missed the other message on this, here's what we sent out yesterday: At this time of the year, our pitches suffer from excessive wear and tear caused by the demands on their use, and the rain which falls during springtime. This results in remedial works being carried out including scarfing, fertilising, sowing and other maintenance tasks, all of which takes time and of course, cost. This year to raise funds for pitch maintenance, we are running an online draw. Draw entry is €20, or if you purchase a ticket for €50, you'll be entered into the draw 3 times. The prizes on offer are: - 1st Prize: Two tickets to see Bruce Springsteen live in the RDS on Friday 5th May.
- 2nd Prize: A signed, framed 5-in-a-row Dublin senior football jersey
- 3rd Prize: A €20 voucher for Sweeneys of D3 wine shop.
- 4th Prize: A €20 voucher for Sweeneys of D3 wine shop.
The draw will take place on Wednesday, 3rd May. Our thanks for the many folks who have already purchased a ticket! |
| | Ladies Féile: 5 wins from 5! |
| Superb performances from the U15 Ladies' football team last week saw them take Division 4 Féile honours. A perfect run, winning all their group games, followed by convincing wins in the semi-final and final stages! For the record, here's how it went: Game 1: v Whitehall: final score 5-8 to 1-2 Game 2: v Ballyboden: final score 1-7 to 1-0 Game 3: v O'Dwyers: final score 2-5 to 1-5 Semi-Final: v Foxrock Cabinteely: final score 5-8 to 1-2 Final: v Whitehall: final score: 3-0 to 1-0 |
| | Well done to the U15 team, and we thank the many supporters who turned up both for the initial day and for the trip to St Peregrines for the final! For a great write-up on the final, head over to the Dublin LGFA website. |
| Boys Féile - Also still ongoing |
| Well done to the U15A team who won the Division 1 Féile Semi-final away in Silver Park to Kilmacud last Sunday. The won on a score line of 5-7 (22) to 3-9 (18); this sees them through to the Division 1 Féile final. Commiserations to the U15B who lost their group stages game against Southern Gales and Shankhill (2-9 to 2-7). |
| | For those wondering why the Féile coverage seems a little unbalanced, I should probably explain the differences in how Ladies and Boys féile are now run. In the past, Féile was always considered an important milestone in the development of juvenile players. It marked the first time they were entered into truly competitive competitions; the format lent itself to a sense of occasion: Played over a single weekend; Group games on Saturday morning, Semi-finals on Saturday afternoon, followed by finals on a Sunday. The compact nature of this gave the competition a real sense of festival and occasion, and we have always tried to cover it with the importance it deserves.
During Covid, Féile competitions were cancelled, and the Dublin County board took the decision that future boys' Féile competitions (both Hurling and Football) would be played over a number of weeks. Féile for the boys now looks more like an Under 15 championship, rather than a single week's festival. While it is every bit as important to the boys, reporting on it can only be done one weekend at a time, so has less of a sense of occasion about it. The LGFA and Camogie Association stuck to the original format, and so we have a compact competition; a festival as it was originally intended. Coverage may seem like blanket coverage, but the games happen thick and fast! I for one would advocate a return to the weekend festival format for boys Féile. |
| | A quick summary of Adult games last weekend: Adult Hurling: AHL1: Good win against Naomh Barróg, making it 4 wins from 4 so far.
