Club Notes, 18th March 2021

A second St. Patrick's Day came and gone.

St Patrick's day usually is a special day for GAA Fans.  The All-Ireland Club Final used to be held that day. We remember 2008 and 2014 fondly. I've often told people that the walk from the club to Croker was hard to beat, but to be fair, the walk back was even better.  And just two years ago, we hosted a Lá Féile Pádraig in the club with Irish dancing, and green pints. Oh, to get back.  And we will.
If memory serves me right, the club final will no longer be on St Patrick's day, but it's been so long since I've read a missive from HQ that isn't about pandemics I can't actually remember.

Unfortunately, we've just passed our second "cancelled" St Patrick's day.   But I heard a good phrase today.  Someone said this pandemic is a marathon.  We've just hit the wall.  We need one last push, and we'll get through.  I think this is true. So chin up everyone - and stick with the programme!

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)

Lotto

Lotto Draw 15th March 2021. Jackpot was €1,000. Numbers drawn were
9, 24, 17, 18
Weekly winner was Martin Moore. Jackpot next week will be €1,150.
Now. Eagle eyed readers may have noticed that last week I said the Jackpot goes back to €150.  I'm not naming any names, but suffice to say my information was incorrect. 'nuff said. I have to be honest, I thought a jackpot going back to €150 wasn't exactly going to cause a rush on entries.  It actually went back to €1,000 which is much better. Anyway.  Do you play? It's very easy you know. Just click the link below. Please and thank you.

Women of Vinnies - Thanks!

We ran a short collection of profiles over on Facebook and Instagram called "Women of Vinnies". It was to coincide with International Womens Day.  It was bookended nicely, as it finished on Mother's day. I just want to put out a word of thanks to all who were good sports and took part. Not everyone is crazy about having their photo taken, never mind splashed across the social media of our followers, but everyone who was asked did so in great spirit.

Gwan Diarmo. New Podcast!

If you like a bit of a podcast, You'll be delighted to hear that our own Diarmuid Connolly has started a podcast along with Jonathan Courtenay. I have to admit I didn't know who Jonathan is, but himself and Diarmo worked together, and have decided to start a lockdown podcast. Well produced and a compelling listen. It's called "Am Seo Podcast with Jonathan Courtenay & Diarmuid Connoll‪y‬". Subscribe, as they say, wherever you listen to your podcasts (Link here). Congratulations Diarmuid - we wish you all the best with it.
Of course, Diarmuid isn't the only Senior Footballer with a podcast - Eamon Fennell continues to host "The Hop Ball" (Link here). I don't think there's a concept of a "podcast-off", but that's one we'd all tune in for.

Wanna help the lads out? - Did you know that leaving a review on apple podcasts, or Google Podcasts, or Spotify REALLY helps a podcast?  Reviews get it chart position, and chart position helps it get discovered. So go show some Vinnies love by subscribing, liking and reviewing!

Use your weekly shopping to raise cash for Vins

A reminder about the LIDL promotion, which runs to April 11th.
Main Sponsor of Ladies Gaelic, Lidl are running a campaign where each time you shop with them, you can gain points which can ultimately lead to a cash donation for the club.
The process is pretty straightforward:
1. Download/open the Lidl Plus app and follow the prompts
2. Select Naomh Uinsionn as the club you want to support
3. Spend over €30 in store and scan your Lidl Plus card to earn a stamp (over €60 = 2 stamps, over €90 = 3 stamps, etc.)
4. Collect 6 stamps and submit your completed stamp card by Sunday, April 11th (users can submit multiple completed stamp cards)
Full details over on Lidl's website.

Let's have one final push

At this stage, you all know our facilities are closed.  Ard Scoil's pitch is not to be used, and MIE is similarly off limits.  Thanks to everyone who has continued to adhere to these rules, which as you know are beyond our control.
But I do find myself from time to time thinking "I don't know the current rules" because they have changed quite regularly. So, if you aren't sure - you can refresh your memory by visiting the Citizens Information website which outlines the current level 5 restrictions.
We know this is dragging on and getting tiresome, but remember adhering to guidelines isn't just for you. It's for our parents and grand parents, for those in our community who are vulnerable.  One day we'll look back, and we'll be proud of our actions.
