Club Notes, 18 August 2021

I guess all good things come to an end

Last Saturday, as I sat in the front row of the upper tier in the Cusack stand, I watched the event that I knew had to come someday. If I was being honest, I thought we'd get caught this year, but even then, I thought it would be at the hands of Kerry. We shouldn't dwell on the defeat, but rather the the decade we had.

It started in 2011, with Pats lads. Eamo, Ger, Diarmo were key players in that squad. Last Saturday may be considered the end of that era, but 8 All-Irelands, including six-in-a-row will stand for a very long time, and I for one fully expect to be scrambling for All-Ireland final tickets next year, or the one after. Dublin may be out this year, but they wrote us off in 2012 and 2014 too. How wrong they were.

For another take on the game, our own Conor Galvin has penned a great piece.  Enjoy.

But, let's get on to club matters. Good result for the U16s, disappointment elsewhere, and an intermediate final to look forward to.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

Morto. I don't have this week's lotto. I promise to bring you the result next week.  In the meantime, why don't you sign up?  Gwan, gwan, gwan.

Introducing: The St Vincents All Stars

I'm delighted to say that we've begun our recruiting for the All Stars initiative. Volunteers are starting to come in, and we've had our first sign up! If you know of a child with additional needs who is in the Parish, please let their parents know about this.

The club is in the process of developing organised gaelic games training for children with additional needs. We are at early stages of planning, and the programme will be designed around the needs of the participants.
Parents: Have you a child who would like to join? Drop us a note at allstars@stvincentsgaa.ie. Mentors will be trained, and garda vetted and you'll be fully consulted to help us design a programme that meets your childs' needs.
For those who'd like to lend a hand, or offer professional advice, please get in touch too - We are also recruiting volunteers to help set up, run and monitor the sessions. Training will be given.
Local businesses: We're looking for sponsorship to fund equipment purchase; if you'd like to be associated with this initiative in your business drop us a note and we can talk about options!

Senior Roundup

The senior hurlers missed out on the top spot of AHL1 North in a draw with St Brigids.  A tough result described by Dublin GAA as "thrilling".  We end Divsion 1 North in 3rd position.

Disappointment for the Senior Camogie team too, who lost out the Division 1 Cup title by the narrowest of margins (2-08 to 2-09) to Ballyboden St Endas last Sunday. The indo has a write up here.

and if that weren't enough..

I find myself having to commiserate with our adult ladies team. Bearing in mind that they got together in May, getting to a shield final was an acheivement. They were narrowly beaten this evening in the Junior F Shield Final by 2 points (3-3 to 2-09) by Shankill.

Sure look, as they'd say in the Sunday game, we learnt a lot from that, and we know what we have to work on, and we'll dust off and prepare for championship.

Stall the ball.  It isn't all doom and gloom

Dead right. Well done to the U16 boys football team - they've won their Division, with a clean sweep of 7 games from 7. Nice one. Congratulations.
Also, our Intermediate hurlers are through to the final of AHL4.  This game is on in O'Toole Park this Saturday against Commercials.  Throw in is at 4pm.  That should be a cracker.

Reminder: The bar is back open

A reminder that the bar is back open, Thursday to Sunday from 7pm. Please note full Covid-19 procedures are in place. This means covid vaccination certificates are required to drink indoors.
The bar is set out with socially distanced tables, full table service and contact tracing in place.
I hear that the Junior Hurlers had a night there last week, as did the senior camogie team. Great to see it back, even better to see it being supported by members. Well done to all involved for getting this back up and running.

Golf Outing: Ryder Cup Style

Folks: Our hope here is that now we can somewhat socialise, that we can get representation from every team in the club. The focus is on a fun day out. If you are spending weekends on the sideline, trading pleasantries with other parents, why not suggest coming along. Last year this was a great day out. Looking forward to this one!

Our one-day golf outing is back. It's organised as a "Ryder Cup" style - pitting one team against the other.  It's very simple:
1. Choose if you'd like to represent the adult section or the juvenile section
2. Buy an entry here
3. Tee times will be allocated
4. Turn up and enjoy!

Date: 24th September
Tee Times: 12:00 to 15:00
Location: Donabate Golf Club.

Mini Leagues: Time for a break

Parents please note mini leagues is taking a much deserved break and will return on August 28th.

Shane doing it on the other side of the Atlantic

A post on linked in, of all places is where I picked up this nugget.  It seems like only a few short weeks since we were bidding farewell to Shane Carthy, as he headed off to begin a new life in Boston. Looks like this is going ok. The post simply said "Congrats to Shane Carthy on another Boston Senior Championship".  Congrats indeed, Shane.  We prefer you in white and blue, but glad to see you're still playing ball.

And finally..

I'm delighted to have received this photo of last years Minor B owner of a lethal shoulder and last line of defence full back, Conor O'Duill. When we last saw Conor at the end of last years' campaign all the talk was of leaving cert results, and what people wanted to do, and we knew Conor was awaiting word from the army to see if he was accepted. A cadetship, and a covid-induced lock down in the barracks later, and he's emerged looking toned, and dapper.

Congratulations, private O'Duill, now please report to PNU for junior football drills, stat.
