Club Notes, 17th November 2021

Congrats, Junior B!

There's only 9 rows in my "Champo watch" spreadsheet, and that will dwindle to 6 for next week.  Its very near end of season folks, but look it's nearly the end of November.
This week, the winner of the "making it hard for yourself" award would go to the U16 Footballers, and the glory goes to Junior B hurling who won their county final. More on these in champo watch.

Dublin Camogie Panel Announced

The Dublin Camogie County board announced their Senior Camogie panel for 2022.  Congratulations to Aisling Maher and Muireann Kelliher from St Vincents who received the call up.

Lovely piece on Kay Lyons

Last week we learned of the passing of Kay Lyons, RIP.  Kay was one of the founders of Marino Camogie Club, which amalgamated into St Vincents in 1997. Kay's influence on the youth of Marino, and on Dublin Camogie cannot be understated. Niall Scully penned a lovely piece for the Herald, and is now available online in the Indo.

Champo Watch

As with all weekends at this time of year, they are best described as "mixed". Let's see how we got on, and what we have to look forward to.

Adult Camogie

The U20s had a great display against Faughs/Celtic, winning by 5-17 to 1-6. Their next game hasn't been fixed yet, but that looks like a Semi Final on the 28th November. I'll know more next week, I'm sure.
The U18 Camogie got their campaign going against Naomh Jude. they too put away 5-17, well outscoring the opposition (3-6). they now look forward to Round 2 on the 21st November which is away to Castleknock at 10:30 am. They'll also have a round 3 on the 5th December, which I'll put up closer to the day.

Adult Hurling
I got out to this one, and was entertained to a thoroughly enjoyable, hardy game of Hurling. Congratulations to our Junior B team who won the Junior G Hurling Final against St Monicas on a score of 1-15 to 0-7.
Junior Hurling is something special. The team ranges from teenagers just out of Minor, to lads who have, how should I put it?.. A few miles on the clock. There's plenty of skill on show, as some of the team were once top-flight senior players themselves. They say it's like watch games of old, as there's a a fair whack of ground hurling and clash-of-the-ash going on.  Great stuff altogether.
Well done lads, I hear the celebrations lasted at least 2 days.

The U21s are in A Hurling Championship action this weekend. On Saturday, at 2:30 at home on PNU1 they take on Ballinteer St. Johns.  If the football is anything to go by, this should be worth a watch.

Adult Football
Great opener for the U21 Footballers they played out a 6-12 to 2-11 win over Na Fianna. A brilliant start to the campaign.  They meet Whitehall at home on the 27th, also at 2:30pm.

Minor Football
Commiserations to the Minor A footballers who were defeated by Kilmacud Crokes in the Minor A Football final in Balgriffin last Sunday. Final score was 2-14 to 2-9. This team are certainly one to watch, as they are in a Minor A Hurling final this weekend. It's been some time since we could claim final places in both Minor codes. Hard luck to the mentors and players.  The turnout for the game was immense and a reflection of how well you folks are thought of in the club. Best of luck this weekend!

Minor Hurling ** NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE **
So, yeah. That Hurling Final.  Our Minor A team go head to head with Raheny in the Minor A Hurling Championship this weekend, Sunday 21 November at 11:00 AM.
Note that this game was originally down for playing in Lawless Park, but the county board advised today that Lawless park is not available and the game will be played in Whitehall Colmcille's ground in Cloghran.
Also note that this game is ticketed. (€10 or €13 on the day).  Tickets can be purchased here.
Best of luck to the minor lads!

Juvenile Championships
Well done to the U16A Footballers beat St. Judes in the U16B Semi-Final, and now have a Final to look forward to.  While I didn't witness this myself, word on the street was that they were 9 points up with only a few minutes to go, but Judes scored 3 late goals.  Sheesh! The game went to extra time and the lads dug deep.  Final score was 4-10 to 5-14.  Well done lads!

Commiseration to the U15 Camogie who were beaten by Clontarf in the  Division 2 Championship Final. This is the end of their champo campaign, but a final is something to be proud of. Best of luck for next year's campaign.

Right folks, that's 11 weeks of championship games.  A few more to go too. Let's keep getting out and supporting!!! Naomh Uinsionn Abú ! 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️🔵⚪️
