Club Notes, 17th March 2022

Happy St Patrick's Day!

A two-for-one bank holiday this year has everyone buzzin'.  Today's notes come one day later than normal, but in my defence, yesterday evening I was lorrying into pints attending the Céilí Mór in support of our senior hurling and camogie teams.
I thought the big weekend would mean less games, but quite the opposite.  A full weekend on our fixtures calendar. Luckily, for the mini league coaches, St Patrick has granted them a day off too, so there'll be no mini-leagues this weekend.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

No lotto draw this week due to unforeseen circumstances.  Normal service resumes next week.
Next week's jackpot will be €6,700.

Céilí Mór - Big Success

Thanks to everyone who came along to the Céilí Mór last night.  A great fundraiser for the senior camogie and hurling teams, but more importantly its great to be able to get back together. The club was heaving, and a great night was had by all.  We thank the organising committee, and also a big thanks to the volunteer bar staff who were kept going all night.

Memorial Service for Ken Fagan, RIP

It's been two years since the passing of a great club man, Ken Fagan.  This was just at the start of the Covid lockdown, which meant the family couldn't travel to the US for his funeral. This Saturday, a memorial service will take place in San Francisco. Ken's wife Dympna, their sons Oisín, Conal and Ruairí will be joined by members of the Fagan and Doherty families, along with friends and neighbours in a service to celebrate Ken's life.  The service will be officiated by senior camogie mentor, Aoife Drumgoole.  We wish the Fagan an Doherty families all the best - We're sure it will be a fitting tribute.

GAA Monthly newsletter

March's newsletter from HQ is out.  This is always a good read; this month's has an in-depth interview with our GPO Emma, information on GAA Development fund and more.  You can read the newsletter here.

Mini Leagues Off this weekend

Micheál Martin saw fit for an extra bank holiday this weekend, and we're making the most of it! With so many families taking a quick holiday, we've decided to not hold mini leagues this weekend.  Our coaches get a much deserved Saturday off; Mini leagues will return as normal the following Saturday 26th March.

Big Weekend for Dublin Camogie

This Sunday, 20th March sees the Dublin Camogie team in action in Croke Park; Their game against Down will throw in a 1:45pm.  This will be the first time Dublin Camogie played a league game in Croke park since 2011, so this is indeed a big occasion.  To mark this, the Dublin Camogie board have postponed all afternoon games this Sunday to give fans a chance to go to the game. In addition they are running a competition:

"For all teams heading to Croke Park for the camogie game, Dublin County Board are running a competition to win a set of O Neills Juvenile Jerseys, all you have to do is photograph your team in Croke Park supporting our girls and send the photograph to pro.dublin@camogie.ie by Monday evening at 10pm. All entries will be put in to a draw at the March County Board meeting and a winner will be chosen."

Adult tickets are just €15, and Juvenile are €5. Remember that gets you into a double header with the Dublin footballers playing Donegal (throw in: 3:45).
This is a great opportunity for Camogie fans to show their support - and remember our own Muireann Kelliher and Ais Maher line out for that team.
Tickets are available here.

On the subject of Camogie..

The Camogie sections are starting a newsletter dedicated to Camogie within the club. They want a suggestion for the name for the newsletter.  Have you a good idea?  If so, there's a competition running at this link. The person who suggests the winning name will win a club top or voucher for club gear of equivalent value.

The book will be avilable for sale on the evening, and Mickey will be signing copies too. Entry to this event is open to all and free, but places are limited so reserve your place at this link.

The organisers say there's something in here for everyone - "from line dancing to rock and roll, and everything in between".  Admission is €4 on the door, and they also have a raffle with spot prizes on the night.
