Club Notes, 16 June 2021

The schedule looks full!

Jaypers. Looking at the fixtures page, I see that there's 34 fixtures down for this weekend.  That feels like a full schedule. This is great news for parents who can get out to their childrens' games.  Fingers crossed that each week is better than the last.
Of course crowd restrictions still remain and for this reason, we'll be stuck with ticketing our more in-demand games.  I'll cover this a bit in the notes.
What else have we got? Well, senior championship draws have been made, the footballers are having a fund raising golf outing, and we're looking for subjects for a hamstring study.  So, lots to cover this week.
As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lots of big starts last weekend

Both U8 squads got out last week, to start their careers in Vinnies Jerseys. Smiles all around. I also received images of the U11s, 12s and 13s.  Delighted to see everyone getting out and getting their game on! Well done to all mentors and players. Particular shout out to mentors for organising games while adhering to public health advice!

Hamstring Study

Physiotherapist to our Senior Hurlers, Oisin McCabe was in touch to ask for our help in recruiting participants for a masters research project. Oisin tells it better than me:
"we are looking
to recruit field sport athletes for a research study on hamstring fatigue being conducted as part of a Masters degree in Sport and Exercise Medicine in Trinity College Dublin. This study is being conducted and testing supervised by Chartered Physiotherapists.
The study will quantify fatigue in hamstring muscles during a Nordic hamstring exercise, a common hamstring exercise used in training and rehabilitation. Study results aim to improve the efficacy of hamstring rehabilitation and injury prevention in GAA. We require field sports athletes from 14-35 years old who can attend Trinity College Human Performance Lab for testing."

Can you take part? These studies are very valuable and conribute to future understanding into injury prevention, if you can drop a mail to Oisin McCabe.

Senior Games this Weekend

There's two senior games down for this weekend:
Saturday Evening sees the senior hurlers open their league campaign against Whitehall Colmcille; That's on a 6:30pm on PNU1.
Sunday morning sees the Senior Camogie team take on Na Fianna at home on PNU1 at 10:30 am.
Folks, like last week's Football opener, we're limited to just 100 Spectators. Given that this allocation has to go between both teams, it means realistically, there's only enough tickets for family members of players.  For this reason, we're ticketing both games, and the tickets wil not go on general sale. Our apologies for this.  We understand the frustration this causes, but we must continue to take our responsibilities for public health seriously. We are expecting an easing of restrictions early next month, and hope to be able to ease this as the months go on.
We ask all members to bear with us on this, and please don't turn up for these games if you have not obtained a ticket.

Problems with Foireann? Just drop me a note

Most of our initial teething problems with Foireann seem to be thinning out, but if you are having any trouble - drop me a note.  There are a couple of common issues which I'm able to solve pretty easily, so don't suffer in silence! If something isn't working as you expect, send me an e-mail with a description of the problem, and I'll see if I can help.

And finally..

Regularly as I watch a game from the sideline, I'm listen with envy to the dads who are stars of yesteryear regail each other with stories of an U16 final in 19 eightysomething. Each weekend is like an episode of "The Goldbergs" were it set in North Dublin.  If only there was a way to re-live that eh?  Well, it looks like the GAA have you covered. Not to be out done by the LGFA's GAA 4 MAs,  I give you "GAA for Dads and lads"

One of those who loves to tell a tale works himself in the insurance business. I'd say his industry colleagues had something to do with the small print:

"Participants are not covered by the GAA Injury Benefit. Risk is an inherent factor in sport, as in life. When members voluntarily take part in Club activities particularly playing activities in contact sports, they accept the risks that such participation may bring. Each player needs to ensure that they have adequate cover in place to meet their own individual needs and personal circumstances in the event of accidental injury. Clubs should complete a games planning check in advance of taking part and ensure that all members are registered with the GAA."

How unfair.  Those who need it most.. etc.

Seriously though, if you were interested in being involved in setting up a GAA4DAs, sign up for the Junior 2 hurlers, drop me a note and we'll try to get something going.
