Club Notes, 16th February 2022

Rain stopped play.

A strange opening weekend for adult football.  A loss, a win, a bye, and a postponement.  Not exactly what we would have hoped for.  More football this weekend, and a number of juveniles getting their season started.  Also starts for the newly minted U17 and U19 teams.
Lots of people in touch this week to ask me to give things a mention, so plenty to talk about.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

13, 22, 1, 24

There was no Jackpoint winner.  Weekly winner of €100 was Pronsias De Poire.

Next week's jackpot will be €6,250.

Full gamut of adult football this weekend

Last week saw us open our account in AFL1. With PNU1 off due to the weather, PNU2 got it first competitive senior football game ever, against Naomh Mearnóg. While we dominated for most of the game, a late penalty brought Mearnóg back in, it and they went out victors by 1 point. Final score Vins 1-09, Mearnóg, 1-10.
The Inters game was called off on Sunday morning, with Dolphin park deemed unplayable.  The junior 2 had a bye, so the only other adult football came was our junior 1 team who beat Naomh Barróg by 4-7 to 2-2.
Next week sees all 4 adult teams, as well as the U17 and U19 teams in action.

The Senior team take on Lucan Sarsfields in round 2 of the league. This game is down for Sunday, 20th February at 10:30 am in Abbotstown.  Our Intermediate footballers are also against Lucan on Sunday morning at 10:30 am.  This one is at home, on PNU2. Later on Sunday, at 1:30pm our Junior 1 take on St Margarets; and after this our Junior 2 take on Round Towers Clondalkin; This is down for 3pm on PNU2.
This weekend also sees a start for our newly created U17 and U19 teams.  The U17s take on Ballyboden on Sunday at 1:30 pm, away in Pairc Ui Murchu. At 11:00am on Sunday, the U19 hurlers travel to Shanganagh Park to take on Cuala.

Plenty to get stuck into in that lot.  Here's to seeing you on a sideline this weekend.

Good luck, Féile Team

Best of luck also to the U15 A and B squads who begin their Féile campaign this weekend.  The A's take on St Stylvesters (Home, PNU2,Sunday at 12:00)  and the B team take on Ballyboden at the same day and time; that game is away in Cherryfield.

A first for the ladies footballers

We wish our Junior Ladies football team the very best as they head to Kerry to take part in the 33rd LIDL Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé Football Festival. They'll take on Annascaul/Castlegregory, Dingle and Mullingar Shamrocks of Westmeath. Best of luck ladies.  Full details on the LGFA site.

Want to clean out the closet?

The mini leagues folks got in touch with a simple request.  Has anyone got spare helmets that they are no longer using? The girls mini leagues will gladly take them off your hands, as they are short for the big turnout they have been getting! If you have spare small or XS helmets, please drop it down to the club on Saturday morning, where it will get a good home! Thanks!

Lá Féile Padraig - Lots in store

This year is going to be a bumper year for St Patrick's Day.  The government have announced an extra bank holiday, so the the party will start on Wednesday, 16th.  Thursday 17th and 18th are both bank holidays.  For those of you who aren't paying the elevated prices for tickets and hotels heading away, we'll be encouraging you to stay local and support your club.  There's a few things in store, and we'll expand more in coming weeks, but mark your calendars for A monster Ceilí fundraiser for the Senior Hurlers and Senior Camogie team.  A fun family rounders competition, a big camogie blitz and more.  Keep an eye out!

Two things to report in our and finally section, and its all about the girls this week. First, we wish Maggie Farrelly of  Cavan all the best as she makes history by being the first woman to take charge of men’s Allianz Football League game.
And, well done to the girls of St Vincent de Paul who been able to get back playing in the Cumann na mBunscol competition. The team is well stocked with Vincents U12 and U13 girls.  We hear they won their opening game against Gaelscoil Barra last Wesdnesday.  Well done girls
