Club Notes, 16th December 2020

And..that's a wrap.

I'm gonna make this the last newsletter for 2020. Training finished up for the year, and it's time to start thinking about 2021. A couple of loose ends to tie up, so how about sticking with me one last time.
If there's anything of note, I'll publish on our social channels Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Gym Fundraising draw results

A great big thank you to everyone who entered the Gym Refurbishment Draw. It was a big success and the organisers were very happy with the money raised. Looks like we'll have some cash to do refurbishment on the committee room which is also in need of some TLC. Congratulations to the prize winners:
  •  7th Place (Club Gilet and Hat): Gill Smith.
  • 6th Place (Dublin GAA O'Neills half zip top + tracksuit bottoms): Joan Kirwan.
  • 5th Place (Paddybox): CJ Molloy
  • 4th Place (Paddybox): Conor Casserly
  • 3rd Place (€100 Voucher for the Yacht Pub): Ellen McGovern
  • 2nd Place (Dublin Jersey signed by Diarmuid Connolly): Richie Kelly
  • 1st Place (Signed 5-in-a-row Dublin Jersey): Brian Mullins.

Our thanks go out to Sean L'Estrange who has championed the efforts to refurbish the gym, and the senior football team and other adult team members who did cleaning, electrical work, lifting, fit out and organising of prizes. Sean also mentioned those who helped out:

"I would like to thank in particular Robbie Mulvaney for all his work and support on this project . Bob Hand for helping with supplies of ceiling tiles and LED lights . Ciaran Wilson for arranging supply of a new computer for the office to allow a stand alone key fob system . Eddie Lambe for supply and painting of the the gym . Pedro for deep cleaning of carpets and mats and arranging the installation of the sanitisers, paper towels and Covid signage."

A fantastic team effort all around, I'm sure you'll agree.

Training wrapped for 2020

All training wrapped up last week, so all teams are now in their Christmas break. Enjoy your Turkey and Ham folks, and we'll get back into it early in the new year. Great ending to mini leagues with a visit from Santa!

Its All-Ireland Final Weekend!

The Dubs are in 3 All-Ireland finals this weekend. Three! That's an amazing return. Of course, there's no draw for tickets in the club, no spending all week asking "did ja get a ticket?", no swapping a stand for a hill. Instead, you'll have to have a pre-arranged substantial meal booked, or it's your own telly.  So here's what's on the cards:

The U20 Footballers play in the All-Ireland Football Final against Galway, It's on in Croke Park this Saturday 19th December with throw in at 2:15pm. That's on TG4 with coverage starting at 1:45pm.

The Mens Senior Team take on Mayo in Croke Park this Saturday 19th with throw in at 5pm. That is live on RTÉ 2, with coverage beginning at 3:40pm (Jaypers, that's a lot of talk to listen to, wha?) This is a bid for six-in-a-row.

This Sunday 20th December, the Ladies Footballers are in an All-Ireland final against Cork. The girls are in a bid for a 4-in-a-row title. That's also on in Croke Park, with throw in at 3:30pm. That game will be live on TG4 from 3:00pm.

Here's hoping for a Dublin triple this weekend!!

Let's enjoy it safely, eh?

Folks: All Ireland Finals is the pinnacle of our games. 3 Teams at this stage in the competition is unique and in any other year, this would be a very social time. However we have to remember the work all of our players, parents, coaches and covid-supervisors have put in over this year to ensure we could still train. We need to be conscious of the vulnerable in our society, as well as respecting the relentless effort and bravery of our front-line workers. So, we appeal to everyone to enjoy the weekend, but to do so in a safe, socially-distanced, respecting-public-health-guidelines, kind of way. I'll leave the message to Dean Rock.

CMON YOU BOYS AND GIRLS IN BLUE!!

Christmas Charity Appeal

A reminder that this year's charity partner is Inner City Helping Homeless. Unfortunately we cannot do a donation drive like in previous years so we ask members to consider doing an online donation to the ICHH instead.
Donations can be made direct to ICHH here
Example of what your donation will cover:
  • €15 - will fund outreach support for one rough sleeper
  • €30 - will fund outreach support for two rough sleepers
  • €50 - will fund emergency day service support

Your donations will go a long way, no matter how big or small.

Newsletter details

This newsletter is sent to over 1000 recipients and is a great way to inform members of club happenings. If you want anything included in the newsletter, drop a mail to pro@stvincentsgaa.ie. Comments and feedback are welcome too.

And finally..

Normally, I try to end my newsletters with something light hearted from the previous week. But I'm going to ask you to bear with me on this one. As we finish up the strangest of years, I want to thank a number of people. Thanks to you for reading my weekly ramblings. Thanks to everyone who commented, and contributed with an image, a message, or a video. During those weeks of full lockdown, videos of skills and challenges were essential for me to have something to talk about. It also gave us something to have in common, to remain part of something, to be a member of St Vincents.
Special thanks to all the volunteers who ensured that our children had a reason to get out into the fresh air - Our coaches, of course, but also our Tuesday crew, our key holders and Michelle in the club offices.
And finally, thanks to those parents who stepped up to become Covid Supervisors, without you, training would have had to stop.
We wish all of our members, players, parents/guardians a safe and peaceful Christmas.

Nollaig Shona daoibh go léir! Up The Dubs! I've my All-Ireland outfit sorted.See you all in the new year!
